Review: A Tiger’s Tale by Laura Morrigan

A_Tiger's_Tale

As is often the case for me, the cover of A Tiger’s Tale is what initially drew me to the book. My eye immediately went to the little black kitten on the rock! When I read the synopsis, I was hooked:

When a normally mellow tiger at a rescue facility trees a terrified vet, animal behaviorist Grace Wilde needs to use her psychic ability to get to the root of the problem…

A Tiger’s Tale is the second book in Laura Morrigan’s Call of the Wilde series, featuring veterinarian and animal behaviorist G...

Don’t Believe These 5 Common Myths About Cats

cat_myths

Cats don’t have nine lives, and they don’t suck the breath out of babies. While it’s pretty obvious to most rational human beings that these two myths are not true, there are a many other tall tales about cats that may not be as obvious, but are also completely false. Perhaps this is because cats, despite having lived with humans for thousands of years, still remain a mystery even to those of us who know and love them.

Some myths and misconceptions are simply silly, but many can be dangerous a...

Five Pillars of a Healthy Feline Environment

cat_on_cat_tree

At their core, cats are still wild animals, and while we’ve invited them into our homes to share our lives, we can’t expect them to completely give up all their instincts. We have to look at our living space from the cat’s point of view and provide an environment that keeps them stimulated. Feline behavior experts agree. Jackson Galaxy introduced the concept of catification on his hit show My Cat From Hell. Catifying your environment means providing a space for your cats where they can exerci...

What Is IMHA and How Did My Cat Get It?

IMHA_in_cats

Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) is a condition where the cat’s immune system turns against itself and attacks the patient’s own red blood cells. The immune system’s antibodies (blood proteins that are designed to counteract substances the body recognizes as alien, such as viruses and bacteria) target red blood cells for destruction.

IMHA is a serious condition with a high mortality rate. Patients are often unstable, and treatment can be lengthy and costly. Cats who are susceptible to I...

Do Cats Get Colds?

do_cats_get_colds

Sneezing, runny nose, runny eyes, lack of appetite, fever – most humans know these symptoms only too well. If you see them in your cat, chances are, your cat has contracted an upper respiratory infection very similar to a cold.

Cold like symptoms can be caused by either a viral or bacterial infection. The two most common viruses that cause upper respiratory infections in cats are herpes and calici. Bacterial infections are most commonly caused by mycoplasma pneumoniae, bordatella bronchiseptic...

Conscious Cat Sunday: The Value of Taking a Break

tortoiseshell_cat

No one can get inner peace by pouncing on it. – Harry Emerson Fosdick

When you run your own business and work from home, the way I do, you don’t have a set work day or work week. It’s easy to forget to take breaks, especially when you’re doing what you love. Thankfully, I have Allegra and Ruby to remind me to take frequent breaks throughout the day, but sometimes, I feel like I need a whole day off – and that’s what I’m going to try to do today.

Taking a break can help you gain perspective, rec...

Mews and Nips: Cat Saves Woman’s Life by Tapping on Neighbor’s Window

hero cat

Slinky Malinki, a two-year-old cat from Cornholme, Lancashire, saved his human’s life by tapping on the neighbors’ window to get their attention. Slinky’s human had collapsed in her home. “”He saved my life,” Janet Rowlison told the Daily Mirror. “I was drifting in and out of consciousness for five days.” Slinky tried to get the neighbor’s attention by sitting on the fence, tormenting their dog, and eventually, tapping on the window. Read the full story on The Daily Mirror.
