Mews and Nips: What Was the LA Feline Film Festival Like?
Last Sunday, the LA Feline Film Festival drew about 7,000 cat lovers to celebrate their love for cats. Attendees got to meet celebrity cats like Lil BUB, Aragon aka Lord Tubbington, and Tara the Hero Cat, watch the best cat videos of the web on an 80-foot outdoor screen, and check out cat-themed merchandise. The LA Times featured a report and video from the festival, including a look at Lil BUB’s Dude’s amazing tattoo of her likeness. Our friend Summer, who is in training to be a therapy cat,...

Review: Catification: Designing a Happy and Stylish Home for Your Cat (and You)
Jackson Galaxy coined the term “catification” on his hit TV show “My Cat From Hell.” The concept is based on the fact that at their core, even our domesticated cats are still wild animals, and while we’ve invited them into our homes to share our lives, we can’t expect them to completely give up all their instincts. We have to look at our living space from the cat’s point of view and provide an environment that keeps them stimulated.

Review and Giveaway: Enter to Win Capsuline CATcaps and a $50 Petsmart Gift Card
When it comes to giving pills to pets, dog owners tend to have it easier. Put the pill in a little bit of peanut butter or cheese and most dogs will think they’re getting a treat and won’t argue with the owner. When it comes to cats, it’s usually not quite that simple. Rumor has it there are some cats who will allow their guardians to pill them easily, but if my personal experience and that with veterinary clients is any indication, they’re few and far between.
There are multiple options for p...

Allegra’s World: Breaking Stuff
Hi everyone, it’s Allegra! I have a confession to make: even though I’m usually the good sister, I did a bad thing the other day: I broke something even after Mom told me to leave it alone.
I recently discovered that sitting on top of the microwave is a lot of fun. I can see what’s going on in the kitchen, the dining room, and even the hallway. It’s prime feline real estate, that’s for sure! Is it my fault that Mom also uses the top of the microwave to store some stuff, like papers, and a Migh...

Review: Kool Kitty Toys Cat Post With Motion Sensor Lighting
When it comes to appropriately named businesses, Kool Kitty Toys’ product definitely lives up to its brand name! This 5 foot high scratching post is one of the most unique cat products I’ve seen in quite some time. Allegra and Ruby were excited to get to test it.
Allegra was a bit intimidated by the sheer size of this post, but she warmed up very quickly. Ruby went to explore immediately, and gave the thick sisal covering a quick scratch of approval. Once they had a chance to get used to this...

How to Tell Whether Your Cat is in Pain
Cats are masters at masking pain. Their ability to hide pain goes back to their wild origins. In the wild, a sick animal becomes prey. While acute pain may be fairly obvious to cat guardians, it may be more difficult to discern whether your cat is in pain when it comes to chronic pain from conditions such as arthritis. Sadly, many veterinarians also overlook signs of feline pain. Therefore, it’s up to the cat’s guardian to understand the signs of pain in cats.

Pet Night on Capitol Hill: Celebrity Cats (and Dogs) Bring Politicians Together
Even in an election year, cute pets trump political differences. This past Thursday, hundreds of Congressional staffers and a few politicians gathered in the Cannon House Caucus Room for the annual Pet Night on Capitol Hill celebration, hosted by the Animal Health Institute. Each year, the event features a celebrity cat and dog, and winners of the annual Cutest Pets on Capitol Hill contest are announced.
I was lucky enough to be invited to this gathering for the second year in a row, and as wa...
