Mews and Nips: Cemetery Cat Comforted Mourners for 20 Years

cemetery_cat

Barney, an orange tabby cat who lived to the ripe old age of 20, was laid to rest at the same cemetery in Guernsey in the UK where he spent most of his life comforting mourners. Barney brightened up the lives of grieving loved ones during funerals and grave site visits. Real Find shared heart touching tributes to this special cat from visitors to the cemetery. Rest in peace, sweet Barney.

If you missed any of the stories featured on the Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: on Sunday, we...

Review and Giveaway: When Bunnies Go Bad

Bunnies Go Bad cover with girls

Pet behaviorist and psychic Pru Marlowe is back! Let me start this review by saying that even though there is no cat on the cover, the book once again prominently features Pru’s crabby tabby Wallis.

In When Bunnies Go Bad, the sixth book in Clea Simon’s Pet Noir series, Pru discovers a murdered tourist, and ends up caring for his ski bunny girlfriend’s high maintenance spaniel. She is also working with a wild rabbit named Henry, who is supposedly tamed and illegally living with an eighty-fou...

Angel Cat Art by Cheryl Kirsch

angel-art-cheryl-kirsch

Cheryl Kirsch has been interested in art and the creative process since early childhood. As a preschooler, she rejected coloring books in order to create and color her own drawings. She has spent years studying a wide variety of media including oil painting, watercolors, acrylics, fiber arts, Chinese Brush painting, and painting on silk. Presently she works primarily with watercolors, acrylics, and torn paper collage, combining techniques from all the styles. Cheryl specializes in painting c...

Ruby on Sleeping With Humans

cats-sleeping-with-humans

Hi everyone, it’s Ruby! I want to talk about sleeping with humans today, and tell you about how I’ve trained my Mom to do what I want her to do when we go to bed at night. Who says humans can’t be trained!

Some of you kitties probably already know that sleeping with humans can be challenging. They take up so much space! And why is it that they always seem to want to be in the most comfortable spot in the bed, which, and I’m sure you’ll agree with me on this, should belong to us cats! But fea...

Ripple Rug Review

Ripple-Rug

Play is vitally important to a cat’s mental and physical health, and it’s especially important for indoor cats. Even though cats may sleep up to 16 hours a day, when they’re awake, they need stimulation. The best way to accomplish this is with play, and the best toys are those that engage your domestic tiger’s natural hunt and prey instinct. The Ripple Rug does this in a super creative and fun way.

This cat activity mat is a puzzle toy and interactive toy all in one clever design. The mat co...

Majority of Cats in the US are Overweight or Obese

obese-cat

The statistics are staggering: 58% of America’s cats are either overweight or obese. This trend has mirrored an equally disturbing increase in obesity among people. Overweight cats are facing the same health risks as humans, and what is almost as disturbing as the statistics themselves is that this problem is created entirely by humans. There are no obese cats in the wild. Obesity is the direct result of poor dietary choices for cats, free choice feeding, an overabundance of treats, and a la...

Conscious Cat Sunday: Longing for Spring

longing-for-spring

Winter is not all that long in the Mid-Atlantic, and this one actually started out on the mild side. Then in January, we got hit with a massive blizzard, and since then, it’s been quite cold. We even had a little bit of snow again yesterday. However, last week, we had a couple of wonderful, warm days, which made me long for permanent spring. Allegra and Ruby are, of course, indoor kitties, but they, too, enjoyed the warm breezes coming in through our screened windows, and they’re ready for m...

Review: The Ninth Life by Clea Simon

The_Ninth_Life

Book covers don’t always reflect a book’s actual content, but in the case of The Ninth Life, the first in Clea Simon’s dark new series, the cover is a perfect reflection of the book’s feel and tone.

Written in the voice of Blackie, a black cat with a mysterious past, and combining elements of fantasy and mystery, The Ninth Life introduces this unusual feline and his human companion, Care, a fifteen-year-old homeless girl. These two vulnerable beings are fending for themselves in the nightmar...

Cat Ladder Review: Catification at Its Best

cat-ladder

There’s no question that cats love to climb. Vertical space in the form of cat trees and cat shelves is critical to providing an enriched environment for indoor cats. The Cat Ladder addresses this need in a way that’s creative, functional, and beautiful – and most of all, it lends itself to endless possibilities in any home of any size.

I’ve had a catification challenge in my dining room/living room for many years. We have a large floor to ceiling cat tree in the corner near the sliding glas...
