Make Mealtime Peaceful for Your Cat
Mealtime for your cat should be a happy, relaxed experience. Your cat shouldn’t have to worry about whether she can eat in peace. This can be challenging in multicat households, especially if cats eat at different speeds, require different diets, or one or more of the cats is a “food bully.”
Why do cats feel vulnerable at mealtime? In order to understand why cats can feel vulnerable at mealtime, we need to look at life from the cat’s point of view. Margaret Gates, the founder of the Feline N...

Conscious Cat Sunday: Don’t Wait for the Other Shoe to Drop
Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy. – Leo Buscaglia

There is no question that worry is a waste of time. Worrying won’t keep life from happening. It won’t change the outcome of what might happen. Worrying is a litt...

Cats have served as inspurration for creative types through the ages. Ernest Hemingway, Edgar Allen Poe and Mark Twain all shared their lives with cats. John Lennon and David Bowie were both cat lovers. Salvadore Dali and Picasso both had cats. Featuring a foreword by one of the most creative...

Meowsic: Study Seeks to Understand Human-Cat Communication By Analyzing Cat Sounds
A fascinating new Swedish research project is looking at gaining a better understanding of human-cat communications by analyzing how voice, melody (intonation) and speaking style – in human speech as well as in cat vocalizations – influence the communication between cats and humans.
Researchers from the universities of Lund and Linköpin will look at these parameters in human speech addressed to cats, and in cat sounds addressed to humans. The results may have profound implications for how we...

Cats on a Diet: Will They Still Love You?
Last week we wrote about the obesity epidemic among America’s cats (58% of cats in this country are either overweight or obese) and the serious health risks of obesity. What makes this trend so disturbing is that it is created entirely by the guardians who love their cats. There are no obese cats in the wild. Our cats rely on us to make appropriate nutritional choices for them, and one of the biggest mistake cat guardians can make is to equate food with love.
Getting a cat to lose weight can...
