proBNT Blood Test Can Detect Heart Disease Early

probnt-test-cat

Feline heart disease is far more common than most cat guardians realize. One in six cats can be born with or develop heart disease later in life, and it can strike any breed of cat at any age. What makes feline heart disease very challenging is the fact that cats rarely show the warning signs that are typical for heart disease, such as shortness of breath, exercise intolerance, coughing or weakness until the disease is quite advanced.

How is heart disease detected?

This is yet another reason...

Conscious Cat Sunday: 5 Business Lessons Cats Can Teach Entrepreneurs

cat-office-chair

I was recently asked to contribute an article to Peter Shankman’s Shankminds website. I’m a member of Shankminds, an entrepreneurial business community that offers live video calls with Peter each week and ongoing support from a brilliant and incredibly supportive group of other entrepreneurs. Since I’m all about learning from our cats, my article focused on what cats can teach us about being better business people.

You often hear it said that entrepreneurs are born, not made. I believe that...

Review: Magical Cats (Pads of Color)

magical-cats

By now, you’ve probably heard about the proven benefits of coloring for adults. Studies show that the structured, rhythmic motion of coloring eases you into a meditative state, which induces a profound sense of relaxation. Coloring is also a great way to explore your creativity. It’s no surprise that coloring books are topping bestseller lists around the world – and what’s even better is that there are a lot of cat coloring books available!

Magical Cats is a new addition to this genre, and i...

Giveaway: CATCaps Gift Pack

CATcaps

This giveaway is sponsored by Capsuline

Pilling cats can be challenging. One option that can make the process easier is using empty gel caps. Since they’re capsules, they slide down the cat’s esophagus easily. They are especially useful for cats who are taking multiple medications at the same time: simply open the capsule, put all the meds in the capsule together, and administer. Instead of having to give multiple pills, you only have to pill your cat once.

Gel caps also avoid the dangers of...

Successful Campaign Exposes Dangers of Secondhand Smoke for Cats

second-hand-smoke

Secondhand smoke is not just dangerous for humans, it also affects cats. Cats living with smokers are twice as likely to develop malignant lymphoma than those in non-smoking households. Cats with five or more years of exposure to tobacco smoke were at more than three times greater risk of developing lymphoma. Studies also suggest a link between oral cancer in cats and exposure to tobacco smoke. It is thought that cats groom the tobacco residue off their fur, which then damages tissues in the...

tiger

Guest post by Dr. Kristopher Chandroo

Maybe he’s a grumpy tiger you share a living space with. Or maybe you both live on a large park reserve. And you need the tiger to cooperate. The tiger needs to listen to you, and perhaps take food, a treat, or a medication from your hand.

The tiger is faster than you, and stronger. She could take control of the situation at any second.

What do you do?

You become a keen observer of a large cat. That’s what you do!

For people who are experts at watching t...
