Help Lil BUB Get Her Own Video Game

lil-bub-hello-earth

I’m still glowing from my meeting with Lil BUB at CatConLA last Saturday. This tiny little cat has a magical energy that comes through even on photos and videos, but it’s almost impossible to put into words just how special this little girl is when you meet her in person. I also had a chance to chat with her “dude,” Mike Bridavsky, for a few minutes. One of the things we talked about was the Kickstarter campaign for the new video game, HELLO EARTH, that Mike launched on BUB’s 5th birthday.

CatConLA: Heaven on Earth for Cat Lovers

CatConLA

I spent last weekend at the Reef in downtown Los Angeles, along with 15,000 other cat lovers, at CatConLA. This was the second year for this gathering of cat enthusiasts from around the world, but my first year. I attended in dual roles as both vendor and press, and I’ll have lots of stories for you in the weeks and months to come. Today, I’m sharing a few personal highlights.

On Monday, Jackson Galaxy and his wife Minoo started a 1,000 mile journey from Los Angeles to Boulder, CO to save the lives of dozens of kittens through a new program by the Jackson Galaxy Foundation, Homeward Bound.

Jackson and Minoo were alarmed at the situation at the overcrowded shelters in their community. Partnering with Best Friends Animal Society Los Angeles, the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, and various corporate sponsors, Jackson got behind the wheel to drive the kittens from...

7 Signs Your Cat May Have ADHD

ADHD-cat

When you look up the definition of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder,) some of the signs of the condition bear a remarkable resemblance to some of the words we use to describe our cats. While there is no such thing as an official diagnosis for cats, if your cat shows any of the symptoms described below, she may just have a touch of ADHD.

1. Short attention span

Does your cat get easily bored or distracted when you play with her? Ruby was the original ADHD kitten: she would play...

How to Know Whether Your Cat is in Pain

cat-in-pain

Cats are masters at masking pain. This ability to hide pain goes back to their wild origins; in the wild, a sick animal becomes prey. While acute pain may be fairly obvious to cat guardians, it may be more difficult to discern whether your cat is in pain when it comes to chronic pain from conditions such as arthritis. Sadly, even some veterinarians still overlook signs of feline pain, or are not aggressive enough in treating it.

Pain management for pets has undergone significant changes in t...

Sunday Purrs of Wisdom: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

cat-mirror

I believe that every single person in your life is your mirror to some extent.Others reflect back aspects ofour own consciousness to us, giving us anopportunity to see ourselves in a different light, and ultimately, to grow.Sometimes, that reflectionmay come fromsomeone we admire. Other times,it may come from someonewho aggravates us and pushes all our buttons.

And just like humans, cats can also be a mirror for us. This may be especially true for the “less than purrfect” members of our feli...

Mews and Nips: The Extraordinary Lives of Istanbul’s Cats

Kedi-Istanbul-cats

Kedi (Turkish for “cat,”) a film about the cats who freely roam the metropolis of Istanbul, takes a closer look at the lives of these cats and what they mean to the city’s inhabitants. Some of these cats fend for themselves, others are cared for by communities of people, and get food and shelter during the colder months. According to the film’s website, “cats have been a part of the city for thousands of years, and so, everyone who grows up in Istanbul or lives in Istanbul has a story about...

Listen to My Interview on the Pet Radio Show

Last Saturday, I was interviewed by Robert Hudson on the Pet Radio Show. I was delighted to be his guest on a program titled Three Cat Loving Women You Want to Know Better, which also featured my friend and fellow author Deb Barnes and Caroline Chang of the cat transport organization The Catz Meow.
