Review: Close Encounters of the Furred Kind
After reviewing Tom Cox’sThe Good, The Bad, and the Furry: Life With the World’s Most Melancholy Cat last year, I became a fan. In this heartwarming and humorous memoir about a man and his cats, Cox continues to share his cat-centric life with his...

Urban Outfitters in New York City Partnered with Best Friends to Find Homes for 95 Cats in One Day
On Saturday, August 6, Urban Outfitters partnered with Best Friends to stage adoption events in all of their stores in New York City. Urban Outfitters paid the adoption fees for all 95 cats and kittens that found new homes that day.
I happened to be in New York that weekend, and visited the Urban Outfitters store on 5th Avenue. It just so happens that I love Urban Outfitters, and it always makes me happy when a brand I like also does good things for cats. By the time my friend and I got to t...

What Every Cat Parent Should Know Before Euthanasia
Making a decision about whether or when the time is right for euthanasia is one of the hardest things cat parents will ever go through. I’ve previously written about what can help a cat guardian make this difficult decision. But even once you’ve made the decision for your beloved cat, there are some things you should know that will help make yours and your cat’s final journey as smooth as something so difficult can possibly be.

Sunday Purrs of Wisdom: Support Charities that Don’t Test on Animals
Conscious choices make a difference. Despite arguments that animal testing is a necessary part of medical research, and that finding a cure for human diseases outweighs the suffering this research causes to innocent animals, scientists are increasingly seeing that the results of animal experiments are not directly applicable to humans.
I won’t give to charities that support animal testing, and always check before making any type of donation. You may need to do a little research and possibly...

How to Prepare for Your Cat’s Veterinary Check Up
America’s cats are not getting the healthcare they deserve. 83% of cats are taken to the vet during the first year after they’re adopted, yet over half of them don’t return for subsequent wellness visit. Given that cats age more rapidly than humans and are masters at masking illness, these statistics are disturbing. National Take Your Cat to the Vet Day, which takes place on August 22, is designed to improve awareness about the importance of regular, routine check ups.
One of the barriers to...
