How Veterinarians Are Handling Euthanasia During COVID-19

euthanasia-covid-19

Guest post by Sarah Chauncey

Losing a pet is excruciating at any time, but several factors come together to make it particularly painful during this COVID-19 pandemic. Most of us are already feeling the stress of physical distancing, and for many, a companion animal may be the only living being were allowed to touch right now (Im in that situation). To have to let go at a time when all of us want to hold on is an unthinkable situation.

This is the first post in a two-part series. In this...

Remembering Ruby: That Time When Ruby and Allegra Had a Bug Hunting Adventure

allegra-ruby-bug-hunting

As Im mourning my beautiful little girl, the memories keep flooding in. Some make me cry, some make me smile, and every single one is precious. Ill periodically share some of these memories so you can take a trip down memory lane with me.

The photo above goes back to October of 2014. I was watching TV when all of a sudden, I noticed both girls on one of the end tables. They were utterly fascinated by a bug under the lampshade. I was thoroughly entertained watching them try to catch the bug...

Review: Catit Cabrio Carrier

catit-cabrio

While the carrier may not be your cats favorite place, it is an important part of your cats life, and it can be vital in an emergency.  And its up to you to convince your cat that spending time in the carrier feels good. Unfortunately, for most cats, the only time theyre in a carrier is when they have to go to the veterinarian, so the association with carriers is often a negative and stressful one.

The best way to get your cat used to the carrier is to make it part of your every day...

Allegra’s World: 10th Adoption Anniversary

Allegra-10th-adoption-anniversary

Hi everyone, its Allegra! Today is my 10th Adoption Anniversary! Ten years ago today, Mom brought me home to live with her and Amber. Sadly, I never got to know Amber really well, because she passed away six weeks after I arrived. Then it was just Mom and me for almost a year before Ruby joined our family.

This anniversary is bittersweet because Ruby is no longer with us. I miss my sister. I know shes not really gone, and I feel her around us a lot, but its not the same as having her here...

Easter Lilies and Cats: A Potentially Deadly Combination

easter-lilies-cats

Easter lilies are highly toxic to cats. Just one small bite of a flower, leaf, stem or even the pollen of this plant can cause gastric distress, and, more importantly, if left untreated, can lead to fatal kidney failure.

Symptoms of lily toxicity

Symptoms usually develop 6-12 hours after ingestion, and can include:

vomiting lethargy lack of appetite.

Within 24-72 hours, signs of kidney failure will develop:

increased thirst increased urination, followed by decreased and eventually no...

Sunday Quotes: Self Care

self-care

Another slightly more wordy than usual Sunday post, but I felt that its an important topic right now that deserves more than just a quote.

In these challenging times, taking care of yourself has become more important than ever, both in terms of your physical as well as your mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Remember that the old adage of putting your own oxygen mask on first is true for a reason: you cant help others unless youre in good enough shape to do so.

What does self care...

Mews and Nips: Cat Family Found in Abandoned Car Finds Forever Homes

cat-with-kitten

We need all the feel good stories we can get these days, and this one hits the mark. Earlier this year, a sanitation worker in East Harlem, NY heard meowing coming from an impounded car. He discovered a mom and her kittens nestling on the back seat. He took the little family to Little Wanderers NYC, where they were fostered until the kittens were old enough to be adopted out. Mama LaBelle was patiently waiting for someone to give her her own forever home, all the while giving everyone in...

Weather Menders Now Available as an Audiobook

weather-menders

This post contains affiliate links*

Im not a big fan of Sci-Fi, and I rarely read Fantasy, so when Debra Denker first approached me two years ago about reviewing  Weather Menders, a Cli-Fi novel about reversing climate change through time travel, featuring a time-traveling cat, I wasnt sure what to expect. I certainly didnt think Id be drawn in to the point of being unable to put the book down. And now, this wonderful book is available in audio form, narrated by the author.

I had never...
