Sunday Quotes: What If?

cat-tree-what-if

Earlier this week, I found myself mired in an endless spiral of what ifs. What if I never feel safe again? What if I get sick? What if this never ends? Of course, any thought that starts with what if is just another form of worry, and we all know that worry is a complete waste of time and energy. That said, I think youd have to be superhuman to not worry during these unprecedented times.

As I kept trying to bring myself back to the present moment, I realized that I could turn the what ifs...

Celebrating the First Annual Tortoiseshell Cat Appreciation Day in Memory of Ruby

tortoiseshell-cat-appreciation-day

Today would have been Rubys adoption anniversary.  Nine years ago today, I brought my precious little kitten home.  I never thought that she wouldnt be here to celebrate her 9th adoption anniversary with Allegra and me. For those of you  new to The Conscious Cat, she passed away on December 18, 2019, after a brief illness.

In honor of her memory, I created Tortoiseshell Cat Appreciation Day* to celebrate torties in all their uniqueness and beauty. Today, and every year on April17, lets...

How the Assisi Loop Helped Formerly Feral Bob With a Leg Injury and Lymphoma

assisi-loop-cat

This post is sponsored by Assisi Animal Health*

Bob showed up at Cindy Jones neighbors house in the foothills above San Diego one day. He was definitely feral, says Cindy, but obviously he knew food could be found where humans were. Since the neighbors had no interest in feeding a feral cat, she began to feed him daily. It wasnt long before he figured out that humans werent that bad as long as they played by his rules. During the two years of living next door, Bob learned that humans were...

Happy Easter

easter-cat

Happy Easter from Allegra and Ingrid

This will be a very different Easter for most of us. Even if youre sheltering in place with family, you wont be able to get together with a wider circle of family members like you might normally do. If youre used to celebrating this holiday in your church, watching a video service will not be the same as shaking hands or exchanging hugs with members of your community. For those of us who live alone, not being able to see friends and enjoy a leisurely...

Mews and Nips: Jonathan Van Ness and His CATV Are the Cutest Thing on Instagram Right Now

catv-jonathan-van-ness-instagram

Do you need something to cheer you up during these hard times? Look no further than Jonathan Van Nesss Instagram! A couple of weeks ago, he started CATV, with one of his four cats, including tortie Matilda, reporting the news from his apartment. Jonathan is the proud dad of four cats, Harry Larry, Matilda, Liza and Genevieve. As a JVN fangirl, it tickled me that CATV set is the same Vesper V-Base furniture we have in our home. Visit Jonathans Instagram to stay up to date with CATV.

Clearing Up the Confusion About COVID-19 and Cats

cat-coronavirus-covid-19

Guest post by Ingrid R. Niesman, MS PhD

This past week has been a firestorm for cat parents. First we learned that cats can be infected with a large dose of live SARS-CoV-2 virus, the virus that causes COVID-19, and may be able to transmit the virus to another cat. The next day we hear that even some shelter cats, assumed feral, had neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. Then, the icing on the cake, a tiger tested positive for COVID-19 in the Bronx Zoo. But not all the news is...
