Mews and Nips: Cat Comforts His Buddy During Storm

cat-comfort-hug

Noah and Norman are two of four rescue cats living with Emma Patricia. “They love to be close to one another,” Patricia told the Dodo. But even so, she was surprised when she looked up one afternoon during a thunderstorm to find the two best friends sitting by the window watching the storm, with Norman seemingly comforting Noah. For more about the pair, and some wonderful photos, visit The Dodo.

If you missed any of the stories featured on the Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: on Sunday...

Our Favorite Slicker Brush

Allegra loves to be brushed. We have a little ritual: every day when I go into the kitchen to make my lunch, she gets up from her morning nap and eagerly waits for me to pick up the brush and give her a good brushing.

She starts by rubbing her face against the brush, then she rolls over so I can get her sides and belly first. After a few minutes, she lets me know she’s done by rubbing her face against the brush again, and then she sits up and waits for her t...

The Purrfect Face Mask for Tortie Lovers

tortie-face-mask

Face masks will be with us for a very long time, so we might as well have some fun with them, right? Our friend Kate Benjamin at Hauspanther has been making fabric face masks for the past few months in some of the most adorable cat patterns I’ve seen anywhere. And now, she added a fabric she named “black, beige and metallic gold circles,” but as soon as I saw it, my mind said “Torties!”

Kate’s masks are handmade in Arizona from two layers of cotton with adjustable elastic ear loops, a filter p...

Last May, when Ingrid graciously invited me to write a guest post to celebrate the release of my Key West food critic mystery, A Deadly Feast, I chose to write about adopting my new kitten T-bone. He came from the Florida Keys SPCA and you can read that story here.

In a nutshell, other than a few Houdini-worthy escapes and a few incidents of carpet peeing, T-bone has been a wonderful addition to the family. I wanted very much to i...

The Anxious Pet is a company dedicated to creating cutting edge products to help address stress in cats and dogs. All of their products are veterinarian formulated. A third party lab verifies product potency, purity and consistency to ensure top quality.

The Anxious Pet’s tagline is super cute and captures what they offer: “Worry Less, Wag More.” Of course, I think it should say “Worry Less, Purr More,” but nevertheless, we were happy to review their Organic...

Ask the Cat Doc: Weak Nails, Itching, a Grieving Cat, and More

Ask-the-Cat-Doc-with-Dr.-Lynn-Bahr

Welcome to our regular “Ask the Cat Doc With Dr. Lynn Bahr” segment! Once a month, Dr. Bahr answers as many of your questions as she can, and you can leave new questions for her in a comment.

Dr. Bahr graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. Unlike most veterinarians, she did not grow up knowing that she would become a veterinarian. “It was a cat who got me interested in the practice and I am forever grateful to him,” said Dr. Bahr. Over the course of he...

Sunday Quotes: Calm

cat-storm

I’ve been feeling overwhelmed more often than not lately, and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone. The open endedness of the current crisis, the way our world seems to be falling apart a little more every day, and the fact that just getting through each day seems to take far more effort than it ever did before are affecting my ability to maintain my center.

The advice offered in the above quote reminds me to put taking care of my mental and emotional health ahead of everything else.

It reminds me to...

Mews and Nips: Cat Adopted as 18-Year-Old Celebrates His 20th Birthday

20-year-old-cat-love

Is this the look of love or what! When Tim Adams heard about an 18-year-old cat rescued from an area shelter by Purrfect Pals Cat Sanctuary and Adoption Centers in Arlington, WA, it was love at first sight. The feeling was mutual for Sammy. “He rubbed his face on my hands over and over. He bonded with me right away,” Tim said. “I knew I would be taking him home.” The sweet senior blossomed in his new home and recently celebrated his 20th birthday. For more about Sammy and some wonderful photos...
