My Top 5 Cat Books of 2020
This post contains affiliate links*
I don’t keep track of the number of books I read each year, but my best guess is somewhere between 150 and 200, and at least half of them have something to do with cats. I review books here on The Conscious Cat on a regular basis .
I made a commitment to myself long ago that I would never post a bad book review. I feel that every author pours his or her heart and soul into a book, and just because I don’t like a book doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not a good ...

David Teie’s Music for Cats: Music Developed for Feline Ears
David Teie is a cellist for the National Symphony Orchestra and a composer who lives in Washington, DC. Music for Cats was born out of Teie’s scientific theory on the fundamental nature of music appreciation. He contends that every species has an intuitive biological response to sounds based on their brain development and vocalizations.
The tracks are a mix of music, sometimes overlaid with sounds similar to purring or birds chirping. To the human ear, some of this can sound a little otherword...

Allegra and the Measuring Tape
Hi everyone, it’s Allegra! I want to tell you about one of my favorite toys. Mom says it’s not really a cat toy, but I think it must be, because anything that is this much fun can’t just be for humans.
The toy lives in a drawer in our bedroom, and it often doesn’t come out for long periods of time, but lately, it’s been making an appearance more frequently. Mom says it’s because she’s been doing some “home improvement,” and that she needs it to measure stuff to make sure that what she buys wil...

Sunday Quotes: Holiday Memories
Ever since I put up my Christmas tree Thanksgiving week, memories of past holidays have been flooding in. In past years, there have always been a few tears mixed in with the smiles as I recall the history of each ornament. In this extraordinary year, these memories have been bringing more sadness than smiles as I’m struggling with missing the holiday traditions of past years.
Holiday memories, whether fond or sad, inevitably create a sense of loss this time of year. We miss the cats and peop...

A French philanthropist has left a sum of money to some unusual beneficiaries in his will — the 50 cats living in the basement of the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. The museum houses 3 million works of art and artifacts and has been a home to cats since the 18th century. According to the museum, the cats are taken care of by volunteers and museum staff, and supported by donations. For more about the museum cats, visit CNN.com.

Remembering Ruby: One Year Ago Today
Today marks the anniversary of the day I had to let Ruby go. I had plans to write a lengthy post filled with memories for this anniversary, but memories are a funny thing: sometimes, they make you smile, and sometimes, they’re like a punch to the gut. And while writing is healing for me most of the time, it hasn’t helped all that much yet when it comes to coping with her loss.
So instead of words, I’m sharing a gallery of random photos of my precious girl with you today to remember her bright,...

Review: Little Puffs Silver Vine Cat Toys

Sometimes, the simplest looking toys are the ones that your cats will love the most. That is certainly the case for Allegra when it comes to Dezi & Roo’s Little Puffs.
Dezi & Roo was created by our resident veterinarian, Dr. Lynn Bahr, who authors our monthly Ask the Cat Doc column. Over the course of her veterinary career, Dr. Bahr found that the lifestyle of cats has changed dramatically. This new understanding led Dr. Bahr to combine her passion for stren...
