Are Your Window Screens Cat Safe?

cat-window-screen

I love fresh air, and so does Allegra, and we both love having the breeze come in through the open screened windows. Unfortunately, window screens can be an invitation for disaster if they’re not secure enough to prevent your indoor cat from getting out. Even worse, if you live on a higher floor, falls through screens can cause serious injury and even death.

Keeping your cats safe while they can still enjoy fresh air only takes a little bit of forethought and maybe some modifications to your e...

Happy Birthday to My Mom

birthday-cat

Hi everyone, it’s Allegra! Today is Mom’s birthday, and I’m surprising her with flowers and a special present!

Mom feels so much happier to me this year than she did this time last year and that makes me happy, too. Last year, we were on something called a lockdown. I didn’t mind it, because it meant Mom was home all the time, but I know she missed being able to celebrate her birthday with her friends. This year, she’s all excited because she got something called a vaccine, and that means she ...

How I Use the Assisi Loop Lounge for Allegra

Assisi-loop-lounge

This post is sponsored by Assisi Animal Health*

After Allegra was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at the beginning of this year, I immediately started her on Assisi treatments. Ultimately, all disease is caused by inflammation in the body, and since she was also overgrooming and showed some occasional mild possibly IBD related symptoms, it just made sense to do whatever I could do reduce inflammation and stimulate general healing.

Those of you who have followed me for a while also know that Rub...

Sunday Quotes: Relief

cat-relief

Last Sunday I got my second Covid jab, and relief doesn’t even begin to describe what I felt. It truly feel like the end of this year-long nightmare is finally getting closer, and I can’t wait to resume some activities I haven’t felt comfortable with for over a year.

I’ve got one more week to go until I’m considered fully vaccinated, and I’m already looking forward to my first hugs in over a year, to eating out again, and to having vaccinated friends over for a meal or movie night. I know Alle...

Mews and Nips: “If It Fits, I Sits” Applies to Imaginary Boxes, Too

cat-in-box

We all know how much cats love boxes, but apparently, even the two-dimensional outline of a square box on the floor is attractive to them. A new study has found that cats will spontaneously sit inside an optical illusion that merely looks like a square. Believed to be the first of its kind, the study enlisted volunteers to observe cats in their homes. While hundreds of people signed up for the experiment, in the end the researchers got complete data on only 30 cats. Their results? That the cat...

Review: The Cat with Three Passports

the-cat-with-three-passports

Having been the beneficiary of the profound changes cats can bring into our lives for a good part of my own life, I always enjoy memoirs about life changing cats. In The Cat with Three Passports: What a Japanese cat taught me about an old culture and new beginning, CJ Fentiman shares the story of how Gershwin, a bedraggled silver tabby she rescues from the streets, not only changed her travel plans, but changed her life in ways she never expected.

This book is part cat memoir and part travelog...

Review: Raw Paws Compressed Catnip Balls

This post contains affiliate links*

Only about 50% of cats are affected by catnip, and not all cats react the same. For those that do respond, reactions will vary based on the strength and quality of the product. Cats will typically roll around in it, jump and run around, rub their faces in it, drool, and purr. Typically, a catnip “high” last about ten or fifteen minutes. Once the energy dissipates, most cats will be very relaxed and ready for a nap.

Catnip comes in many different forms, and y...

Allegra’s World: Coffee Table Makeover, Part Two

cat-paint-supplies

Hi everyone, it’s Allegra! Remember how I told you about how I helped Mom paint our coffee table a couple of weeks ago? Well, guess what! I got to help with another project!

This time, Mom painted the end tables that go with the coffee table. But instead of painting them in the living room, where I could be really helpful, she dragged each table into her office, and sometimes, she closed the door on me. She mumbled something about “we don’t want to get any paint on you, Allegra, do we?”, but h...

Basepaws Dental Health Test

cat-dental-health-test

It is estimated that 50-90% of all adult cats have dental health problems, with periodontal disease being the number one culprit. The good news is that most dental conditions are preventable and treatable, if caught early.

The only way dental disease can be diagnosed definitively is via a thorough oral exam by your cat’s veterinarian. By the time your cat shows typical warning signs, dental disease may already be in its advanced stages.
