Former 'ex-gay' activist: 'I think the ex-gay movement will be dead within the next 10 years'

This past summer I interviewed former "ex-gay" activist Yvette Cantu Schneider for a two part series that ran over at GLAAD. Now Schneider is speaking to the Southern Poverty Law Center (because she apparently really wants to piss off her former pals), and she is sharing more about herself, her work, and the future. Check it out:

"I think the ex-gay movement will be dead within the next 10 years."

No, I'm not even kind of 'happy about this,' Ms. Gallagher

Here's Maggie's take on the Oregon bakers who have admitted that they discriminated against lesbians because they believe homosexuality is a sin, who have owned up to the fact that they turned away other gay customers before they were finally called out for doing so, and who recently baked cakes for a very fringe "ex-gay" organization that tells gay people they must "change"

Happy? Why would we be happy? The whole point is that we find public accommodation discrimination to be ugly. And wrong....

Orientation is not a 'vision,' Maggie

Check out this flawed comparison that Maggie Gallagher makes between a Christian college that refuses to hire LGBT employees or accept LGBT students and a theoretical campaign that she could have (but has not) waged against the Human Rights Campaign:

Meanwhile, in Massachusetts, Barbara Brittingham, president of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges’ higher-education commission, announced that Gordon College may have violated the NEASC’s accreditation standards. What was the nond...

In 2012, the National Organization began a boycott against General Mills. This is General Mills' latest response to it:

Read: Viciously anti-LGBT activist Peter LaBarbera justifies lifting my wedding photo to 'express moral disapproval'

Remember what I wrote about some anti-LGBT activists, like Peter LaBarbera, being seemingly unable to self-assess? Yeah, well:

What kind of person does such a thing? Then says such a thing?

I will remind you that this same man attacked my newborn daughter less than twenty-four hours after her birth. That's what kind of person.

'Public Discourse' writer introduces me to some guy named 'Jeremy Hooper,' who seems like a real ass

Because I, someone who writes about LGBT things, dared to respond to a particularly vicious public commentary that appeared in several different prominent outlets as a means of attacking both a gay ex-husband and the entire same-sex marriage movement, and because my posts have an open commenting system that allows for people (including one of the involved parties) to have his or her own say, I'm apparently a bad guy who does all kinds of bad things. Or at least some fanciful version of "Jerem...

NOM vows to keep destroying the Republican party through spiteful campaigns

The National Organization For Marriage is vowing to defeat US Senator (and potential presidential candidate) Rob Portman (R-OH) in his 2016 reelection bid. The Daily Beast reports:

Brian Brown, the president of the National Organization for Marriage, a prominent social conservative group, told The Daily Beast that his group would be working “day in and day out to have a candidate to defeat Portman.” Brown said that the group had identified “several folks who could potentially” win a Republican...

FRC: Christians must vote to stop same-sex marriage, 'other evils'

The indefatigably anti-gay Family Research Council is in full "get out the vote" mode, dedicating its most recent round of "prayer targets" to the subject. After all, what will God say if they don't rise up and stop "evils" like same-sex (civil) marriage?

I actually think a deity capable of creating and maintaining a universe would be all like, "Elections? That's adorable."

I'm even more certain that a deity that did create so many people LGB people must be quite okay with seeing same-sex...

Religious freedom, American Family Association style: 'We should treat Islam like the Ebola virus'

The video is not embeddable, so you'll have to click over if you want to watch the American Family Association issues analyst's latest demonization of an entire human population. But I think the headline will likely give you the gist:

Bryan goes on in his commentary to warn that we just can't know for sure who cares "the decapitation virus." Right before he came out and admitted that he's really a covert liberal activist who is...
