FRC Senior VP suggests court-enacted marriage equality could lead to civil war

This from Family Research Council Senior Vice President Rob Schwarzwalder:

Screen Shot 2014-10-07 At 6.45.22 AmTwo observations: First, [Dr. Al Mohler of Southern Baptist Seminary] is right with respect to the inevitability of division within the believing church over this issue. Christians will choose to be faithful to Scriptural teaching or they won’t. There is not, as he notes, nor will there ever be, any middle ground between obedience and submission to the revealed will of God and rebellion against it.

Second, I’m haunted by...

AFA's Issues Analyst: Today's SCOTUS marriage action = 'Dred Scott of marriage'

The infamous Dred Scott v. Sanford decision, as I trust you know, is a gruesome Supreme Court decision that said African American could not be American citizens. And according to the man who the American Family Association employs as its Director Of Issues Analysis, the Supreme Court just mirrored it when they opened the door to marriage equality in more states:

NOM calls for federal marriage amendment; stops short of seeking purple unicorn

Adorable:

Nom Logo-2

"We are surprised and extremely disappointed that the US Supreme Court has refused to grant review of the same-sex marriage cases pending before them. This is wrong on so many levels. First, the entire idea that marriage can be redefined from the bench is illegitimate. Marriage is the union of one man and one woman; it has been this throughout the history of civilization and will remain this no matter what unelected judges say. Second, it's mind-boggling that lower court judges would...

Southern Baptist Convention's ERLC prez all but concedes on marriage equality

Russell Moore, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, absolutely wants evangelicals to keep fighting a battle of ideas on marriage and why they think it should remain properly penised and vagina-ed. But he is pretty clear that the legal fight is over:

Screen Shot 2014-10-06 At 12.02.08 Pm The Supreme Court has declined to take up appeals from states in which the courts have found same-sex marriage to be a constitutional right. This paves the way for same-sex marriage in many, p...

'Public Discourse' corrects, apologizes for 'Rivka Edelman' hit piece

Remember ? The one where the pseudonymous "Rivka Edelman" (who we now know to be a very harshly-tongued anti-trans activist named B.A. Newmark) accused me, without any proof (because there is none), of harassing people with whom I disagree? Yeah, well:

I'm pretty sure I just saw a pig fly by my window and he was oinking something about going ice skating in hell. But I'll take it!

Massively huge news: SCOTUS opens door to marriage equality in five more states (IN, OK, UT, VA, WI)

Details are just trickling in. More sure to come:

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday denied review in all five pending same-sex marriage cases, clearing the way for such marriages to proceed in Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.

*UPDATE: More than five actually. Freedom To Marry says:

AFA's Director of Research: Calling same-sex marriage love = 'evil'

Satan twists language so that the "evil" of same-sex marriage is instead portrayed as love. This part of the latest musing from the American Family Association:

Screen Shot 2014-10-06 At 6.22.57 AmThe devil? Talking about things good, true and beautiful?

Why not? Language is twisted and misused all the time. Why can’t the words good, true and beautiful be brought to heel in service of hell? After all, who is to say what is good? Or true? Or beautiful?

...

So, evil has a tendency to masquerade as beauty, and human beings have a corr...

"Rivka Edelman" is B.A. Newmark, prolific (and shocking) anti-trans activist

I really want to move on from the hit piece that the Witherspoon Institute's Public Discourse site chose to run in which a pseudonymous writer calling herself "Rivka Edeleman" . But considering the things I learned this afternoon, I have no choice but to make one final post.

First off, it came out this afternoon that "Rivka" is actually an author and professor named B.A. Newmark. And wouldn't you know i...
