Read: Same-sex couples can marry in St. Louis; As for rest of state? tick, tock, tick, tock, tick...

Calling the freedom to marry "a fundamental right and liberty deeply rooted in the history of the US," St. Louis Circuit Judge Rex Burlison today ruled that same-sex couples can marry in the city where he serves. Which they are already doing.

Here's the order, which is a likely first step to full statewide equality:

Attorney General Chris Koster (who was GOP until 2007 before switching to the Democrats) will not seek a stay. So for now, ga...

This should be the national slogan of the anti-LGBT crowd's fake 'religious liberty' movement

It's taken me a few days, but I'm finally getting around to commenting on these shirts, which were on display at this past Sunday's big anti-LGBT event in Houston:

The URL points to the official organization that's attempting to repeal Houston's LGBT nondiscrimination ordinance. And while the first and perfectly understandable reaction is repulsion, encouragement is the more strategic react...

The 2014 midterms

A few things to remember:

1. The sixth year election is typically tough for the incumbent president. In 1986, the Democrats won eight seats and retook the Senate from the Reagan-led GOP. In 2006, the electorate resoundingly repudiated Pres. Bush by putting Democrats in charge of basically everything on the state and federal level. Through that lens, last night could've been worse for the presidential party.

2. Turnout was terrible, as to be sadly expected (what the f**k is it going to take to g...

Read: Kansas on track to become thirty-third marriage equality state

US District Court Judge Daniel D. Crabtree today ruled in favor of marriage equality in the state of Kansas. The ruling is stayed until 5pm on Nov. 11 (a week from today), at which point the Sunflower State would become our thirty-third.

Here's the order:

2:14-cv-02518 #29 - ORDER by Equality Case Files

As of press time, election returns do not indicate whether or not Kansas voters have ousted incumbent governor Sam Brownback, a conservative who, as US Senator, was one of the Bush era's worst f...

More proof that the Houston subpoena thing was a concocted campaign of faux-rage

On September 25 of this year, the "No Unequal Rights" campaign that has been attempting to overturn an LGBT nondiscrimination ordinance in Houston, TX, issued a powerpoint presentation that strategized ways they could keep fighting this fight. One slide read like so:

The subpoenas in question are the very same ones that the anti-LGBT Alliance Defending Freedom, conservative journo-activists like Todd Starnes, and groups like the Family Research Counc...

Video: This young person should scare the crap out of anti-equality elders

She's a product of conservative Christian schooling and thought. And she's an intensely articulate advocate for the right side of history and humanity:

Today in bad advice & even worse historical comparisons

StaverIn a far-right twist on ambulance chasing, anti-LGBT lawyer Mat Staver is encouraging employees who are tasked with marrying same-sex couples to simply refuse to perform the duties of their job. Staver's Liberty Counsel will represent these modern day Rosas and Martins in court, he insists:

Orlando, FL – Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver is urging people in states affected by same-sex unions to stay: “Stand your ground. Do not voluntarily resign your post when confronted with thi...

Those civic-minded Americans at NOM tell Oregon residents: Don't vote for US Senate

The D.C.–based National Organization For Marriage has no ties to the state of Oregon. They do, however, have strong ties to both discrimination and destroying the moderate future of the Republican party, which is precisely why the anti-gay special interest group is telling Beaver State voters to just not vote at all for US Senate this time around:

Nom Email 2014-11-03 Wehby HeaderShe embraced same-sex 'marriage' with a vengeance, even paying for a statewide television commercial featuring two gay men who had sued to overturn...

What most people aren't getting about the fake non-troversies of the anti-gay right

I was just reading a local news report from Houston's KHOU about the non-troversy involving Mayor Annise Parker, subpoenas she never saw before their preparation, and the outrage machine that followed. The first line reads like this:

[KHOU]

The reporter surely thinks this line is benign. As best as I can tell, there is no agenda at work. To most, presumably including this reporter, this sounds like nothing more than an introductory sentence.

In truth, this framing is completely and utterly wrong...
