'Culture War' Horse

I'm not going to say I couldn't make this stuff up. I'm a creative sort. Give me some time and some literary freedom, and I can come up with just about anything.

I will say, however, that when it comes to the "ex-gay" movement, I don't have to make any of it up. The truth tends to be stranger than fiction:

Gay Star News reported today on research from Ned Flaherty that The Cowboy Church of Virginia, led by chief pastor Raymond Bell, believes homosexuality and other ‘addictions’ can be cured by...

Deceptive NOM continues to seize deceptive martyr role

I am so beyond sick of headlines like this one:

Screen Shot 2012-12-28 At 12.30.23 Pm

Forced? Um, no. No, no, no, no, no!

By the owner's own admission, he is walking away from $50,000 in added revenue. He made the choice. He charted his own course. He could've continued serving all of the public, but because he didn't want to serve some of the public, he will now serve none of the public.

That is not force—it is a choice. And if it's a choice, my zygote chose balls then the only force at play comes from the cruel, hard-to-shake weig...

Audio: God is calling on Maine clerks, notaries to oppose marriage rights

Just after midnight, civil marriage equality will come to Maine. Or as the two men who most fully fought and lost in their quest to exalt discrimination above fairness, Bob Emrich and Carroll Conley, call the development: "A time for Christians to step up and martyr themselves, for this is 'the Coliseum' of our day" (paraphrase).

A snip and link to full:

Faith Matters in Maine [WHCF FM]

In their defense, Bob and Carroll are pretty much telling their supporters that they're going to have to face...

Gays can enter into loveless different-gender marriages with social conservatives' children

NOM's Roback Morse pushes piece comparing gays' kids to chattel

You might know the name Doug Mainwaring. He's the National Organization For Marriage's resident "gay against gay marriage." A Maryland Tea Party activist, Mr. Mainwaring has testified against marriage bills, written numerous commentaries, and essentially dedicated his recent advocacy to opposing equal civil rights. Oh, and he's always sure to mention that he's gay. Did you hear? Because he'll tell ya.

You most likely know Jennifer Roback Morse. She's the six-figure-compensated head of NOM's Ru...

NOM asks folks to be 'heroically…sacrificially…generous' (misused ellipses and false labels are theirs)

The NOM crew isn't pulling in the year-bucks that they used to. So now is the time for begging:

201212280832

Riiiiiiiight. "Heroically" contribute to Brian Brown's six figure salary so that you can "sacrificially" make life harder for your gay neighbors Bob and Joe. How "generous," both in terms of dollars and spirit.

I have an idea: how about in 2013, we start making heroic sacrifices for the good of a unified nation rather than playing the divisive political games that allow certain people to live quite...

Video: 'We had a great year!' says Vander Plaats; 'I'm a Martian!' says equally truthful four-year-old

Their year was even worse than I would've dreamt to script. But listen to anti-gay Iowan Bob Vander Plaats pretend otherwise in order to convince unsuspecting local that his nascent group is successful and therefore supportable:

(via Joe)

Wait, hasn't anyone told Bob that his brand of rigid, far-right, pledge-waving, gay-banning, judge-ousting, womb-inspecting, religious-overstepping conservatism is the reason the GOP has such a branding problem? Everyone else got the memo—why not Bob?
