Book Review & Giveaway: Second Chance Summer

Second Chance Summer by Emma Hart: Kia James was never meant to return to her hometown of Harlan Grove, Alabama… But she has.
And Reese Pembleton was definitely not supposed to still be in love with her the way she is him… But he is.

Last summer was the summer to end all summers. It was the summer they both fell in too deep to get out, and try as she might, Kia can’t deny that whatever was there between them a year ago is still there. If she’s honest with herself, there’s so much more there than there ever was, but the way her dad walked out six years ago has shattered her belief of that fairytale love every girl craves.

Reese isn’t giving up so easily. His biggest mistake was not chasing after Kia the way he wanted to when she upped and left him without a word. Despite what she says, he knows her better than anyone, and he knows she still wants him the way he wants her. And this time, nothing will stop him from getting – and keeping – his girl.

But nothing is that easy. When Kia’s dad arrives back in town, family secrets come tumbling out she never realized existed. Everything her mom has ever told her about the reason he left is a lie – but how can she trust the man who, by his own admission, didn’t fight for her as hard as he could have?

With her past and present wants and needs colliding, Kia is thrown into the turmoil of the biggest decisions of her life. And she realizes, sometimes a second chance is all you need.

Emma's thoughts: I received this ARC as part of the blog tour and I’m going to try and keep this review as spoiler free as possible.

This is Kia and Reese’s story, they had an amazing summer only for Kia to do a runner to go to college in New York and returns after a year only to find out that they’re still very much in love and so the story begins.....Obviously there are other issues into the mix but I’m not going to ruin a perfectly good book for those who are going to read it and I would highly recommend that you do.
Emma’s has the ability to make her books quite addictive and very easy reading, you glide through it and before you know it your well over half way and then you’ve almost finished it, so my recommendation is READ IT!! You won’t regret it.

I’m a great fan of Emma’s and read/reviewed many of her novels and I have loved and enjoyed all of them so congratulations to Emma on another brilliant and successful book.

Can I put in a request? Lol. Could Luce and Adam have their own story please? Would so love to know what’s in store for them :)

Sarah Langham’s life was the epitome of normal until her dad slept with another woman when she was sixteen. It ripped her family apart.

Twenty-two-year-old Sarah has it together, though.

Waiting at the train station to go home from her first day of her first proper job out of university, she spots a man.

He is an enigma to her. She’s drawn to him, with his square jaw; buzz of hair; and his tall, solid frame, seen under the contours of his business suit. And he’s been looking at her, too. Fate pulls them together that night on a whirlwind date, exceeding anything Sarah’s experienced before. He’s even more into her than she’s into him. Finally, she wants to trust a guy for the first time since she was sixteen.

Cover Reveal: Tousle Me

Tousle Me by Lucy V. Morgan: He’s exquisitely hot. Exquisitely tousled. Exquisitely screwed in the head.

Cammibelle Hicks just wants to survive her first year of college. Desperate to forget her troubled past, she throws herself into her degree and book review blog. So what if her life is one long tumblr page of grumpy cat GIFs? She doesn’t need to get out more, and she definitely doesn’t need a man.

Hunter von Styles approaches life like he’s spoiling for a fight: with a tempting scowl. A cage-fighting, ex-rocker billionaire, it’s unclear why Hunter’s at college. Frankly, it makes no sense. Then Cammie falls into him—literally—at a party, and he’s obsessed. He needs her more than a moist towelette at a barbecue.

Though Cammie’s friends warn her against Hunter, she can’t resist his charms; especially not when he buys her shoes. And GoodReads. And a unicorn. But when her handsome best friend, medieval reenactor Archer Riddick, makes a play for her heart—and challenges Hunter to a jousting match—it turns out that Hunter has demons of his own. Demons that aren’t real ones, but metaphorical ones—which are MUCH WORSE, when you think about it…

Join Hunter and Cammie on an emotionally exhausting journey into love.

And co-dependence.

And probably therapy.

AUTHOR BIO
Lucy writes sharp contemporary fiction, usually with a liberal splatter of filth. She is a Lyrical Press author, an editor and a screenwriter.

Her new adult novel, TWISTED SUMMER, is a gutsy take on forbidden love starring an even gutsier heroine.

Her contemporary series, encompassing CHAIRMAN OF THE WHORED and THE WHORED'S PRAYER, features slick London lawyers with a penchant for sensual violence. BEAUTIFUL MESS, her romantic comedy novella, is a snarky, sexy friends-to-lovers romp.

In TOUSLE ME: A New Adult Parody, Lucy pays homage to the books she loves in the best way she knows how...by mocking them mercilessly.

Lucy lives amid a graveyard of scented candles and half-read books. She's still trying to kick her dirty Pepsi habit.

Book Review: Finding Infinity

Finding Infinity (Infinity #3) by Layne Harper: "Finding Infinity" as described by Colin...

"Fine Charlie.” Colin says dropping his hands in defeat. “Here's what I want. I want everybody to back off and let me play football. I want you to go back to practicing medicine because I’m ready for you to be happy again - not this forced shit that you keep trying to sell me. I want Brad to get his house finished because I’m tired of listening to his DIY project updates. I want Jenny to decide on a hair color. I want Aiden and Rachael to either figure their shit out or leave each other alone, because Aiden’s chick drama is annoying. I want Mark to quit trying so hard to be my buddy again. I want my parents to get off my back about us living in sin. I want you to pick a date to marry me. That’s what I want. What am I going to get? None of it, because I have to do another interview to try to patch the gaping wound that is my life with a Band-Aid.”

This is book three of the "Infinity Series." To read them in order, please start with "Falling Into Infinity" and then "From Now Until Infinity."
TeriLyn's thoughts: Release Date: November 26, 2013
**ARC graciously provided by author in exchange for an honest review**

Finding Infinity is my favorite of the series yet. Layne Harper has really endeared these two characters and their emotional story to my heart. Finding Infinity picks up right where book two leaves off with Charlie moving to Dallas to be with Colin. The story in book three takes on the journey of this couple adjusting to life together again. It's told from dual POV's and I love that we see firsthand from both of them their struggles, happiness, and vulnerability.

Charlie and Colin have an addiction to one another, at times bordering on an unhealthy addiction. Their love is consuming. The only time each feels most safe and secure is when they are together. The book starts out with Charlie having a breakdown about her new surroundings however she quickly makes adjustments and is honest with Colin about the control issues she's having. After that, Charlie shines and she shines bright. I adored Charlie in this installment. She totally comes into her own; she finds herself and a balance with Colin. As a fiercely independent woman, Charlie's balance teeters often. Colin wants to take of her, she can take of herself. She walks a fine line, and where in the past she would have run from that, here she's finally embracing that she can be both. She believes in their love for each other. So many outside influences are trying to destroy that and she never falters in her confidence. Charlie shows so much growth in this book and I was so happy to finally read her as a confident, strong woman who still struggles with deep issues on a daily basis but can overcome that and remain a confident, strong woman.

And on the flip side, we finally see Colin falter in the present. We've heard about him and issues as memories. In Finding Infinity, Colin shows some major vulnerability. And his weakness is Charlie. Colin puts her above all else, she's on an unreachable pedestal in his eyes and she doesn't even know it. His worry and angst for her is constant. This in turn leads Colin down a dangerous path of self-destruction because he feels he's doing right by Charlie. Colin in brought down from his god-like presence in Finding Infinity. His has faults and he's not indestructible. Colin wants to marry his girl and just be "a boy who's in love with a girl". He wants to play football. He has a hard time coping with that fact. When she's there to help him every step of the way is when she really shines. These two have trust issues with each other; they each have their demons to fight, and their highly dependent on each other. Their story is sweet and has really developed.

Finding Infinity is just as passionate and emotional as the first two books in this series. I loved this installment because of Charlie and I'm so happy with the development of her character. She's determined and a fighter. Colin starts mapping out the future more definitively. There are many obstacles standing in their way in this book. It seems for every step forward, these two are taking two steps back. But they persevere, their love is that strong. They exchange vows here and those words are so sweet and the setting is so perfect for the two of them. Charlie isn't a typical woman and I LOVE that about her. Colin and Charlie need each other; they know what life is like without each other and don't want to experience it again. They're fighting and it's fantastic. Layne Harper draws you in to their crazy world beautifully and then makes you fall in love when it's just them alone. Her writing is concise and full of feeling. I'm so thankful to have received an ARC of this book as I've been a big fan of the series from the beginning. I look forward to reading Colin and Charlie's next chapter of their lives and am hopeful they'll find their infinity.

Book Review: Beautiful Beginning

Beautiful Beginning (Beautiful Bastard #3.5) by Christina Lauren: Back when not being able to stand each other also meant not being able to keep their hands off each other in Beautiful Bastard, neither Bennett nor Chloe could have seen this day coming.

An exasperated bride who just wants to elope. A determined groom whose only focus is getting to the wedding night. And—of course—a whole lot of name calling.
TeriLyn's thoughts: So it's been a while since I've read Beautiful Bastard, I forgot how much I adore Bennett Ryan and Chloe Mills. Beautiful Beginning reminded me and made me want to go back to the beginning and read the series over again. Beautiful Beginning finds Bennett and Chloe during their wedding week. They're stressed about the trip to San Diego and their families converging. They're Bastard and Bitch at their finest: passionate, emotional, fiesty, stubborn and hilarious. These two have come so far through the course of this series and to read their relationship come full circle is so satisfying. They don't lose, for one minute, what they're relationship is based on: equal fighting and mutual admiration. Mr. Mills and Mrs. Ryan are great characters with a powerful love story. The scene at the wedding rehearsal is so steamy when they start their nonsense with each other. Christina Lauren's writing is concise and on point that there is no way you can deny these two characters are meant to be together forever. In addition, all the boys and girls of the Beautiful series have been invited to the wedding and provide great comic relief for Bennett and Chloe. I adore all these characters and this series. This book was a perfect ending for the series and definitely a "beautiufl beginning" for the Bastard and Bitch. You must read it! I'm sad to see it come to an end. I look forward to more great stories from these authors.

Book Review: Off Chance

Off Chance (Off #5) by Sawyer Bennett: He is seeking absolution.

Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex and it’s one of the reasons he joined the New York City Fire Department. He has spent his entire professional career trying to atone for that one person he failed to save. Because, if he can do that, then perhaps he can be worthy of love again.

She is seeking escape.

Rowan Page’s life is nothing short of a disaster. Always immersed in trouble, she has only herself to depend on. She’s determined to pull herself out of this mess and make something of her life, despite the hard years she has lived on the streets of New York.

Together, they have the chance to become complete.

Flynn and Rowan’s worlds exist miles apart, but when a chance meeting brings them together, neither of them can deny the instant pull that connects them to each other. What starts as a tiny spark eventually flares into a fire so hot, it refuses to be extinguished.

For it to work, both of them will need to jump feet first into the flames to see where it takes them, despite the risk of being burned.
Whairigail's thoughts: I feel like a fcuking caveman that brought home the biggest rump of dinosaur roast

This is part of the "Off" Series but can be read as a standalone

Sawyer Bennett does it again!

Flynn Caldwell is a Fireman, a badass, sexual fireman who - unlike some other alpha males - is so very caring and doesn't give a toss who know it.

Rowan Page (& her dog Capone) have just been rescued from a house fire - by none other than Flynn Caldwell himself.

Rowan has gone through a lot in her young life - kidnap, abuse, torture and all manner of other unmentionables - but she is determined to make it on her own. Not to rely on others. So Flynn makes it is job to convince her otherwise.

This book is filled with Love, Laughter, Heartache and Heartwarming moments with very serious underlying issues.

It is the perfect ending (?) to the Off Series and the Epilogue is stunning:
Hmmmm... let's see... a Congressman, two NHL players, and an Irish Rock star. Yeah, nothing unusual about this day

An absolute must read!!

Book Review: Nothing Left to Lose

Nothing Left To Lose by Kirsty Moseley: Annabelle Spencer’s life is every girl’s dream. She has wonderful parents, great friends, and of course the perfect boyfriend, Jack Roberts. That all changes on her sixteenth birthday when her life comes crashing down around her. Her dream night turns into a nightmare when Jack is murdered right in front of her, and she’s kidnapped by his murderer, Carter Thomas, a big time drug and arms dealer.

After five months of being with Carter, she’s found, but the experience has totally changed her. She’s no longer the happy-go-lucky girl that everyone used to know and love; she’s now cold, hard and suffers from night terrors. It appears that Carter broke not only her body, but her spirit too. A shadow of her former self, her slogan for life is now: ‘If you don’t care about anything, then you have nothing to lose’.

Carter is currently serving time for the murder of Jack, a conviction that Anna helped secure. But his retrial is coming up because some key evidence appears to have been tampered with. Unbeknown to Anna, death threats are being received by her father, the Senator. It appears that Carter is still interested in Anna and will stop at nothing to get her back.

Ashton Taylor is brought in to protect her. He’s a newly qualified SWAT agent, a bright spark, the agency’s new golden boy. He is assigned undercover, posing as her boyfriend. His job is to help her through college and keep her safe until the end of the trial in eight months’ time.

For three years she has been the broken, damaged girl, refusing to feel emotion or pain, but can Ashton help her rebuild her life and finally deal with the grief of losing her childhood sweetheart? Will he be the one to make her see that life is, in fact, worth living and that not all men will hurt her?

All the while, the shadow of the trial looms over the both of them, taunting them, reminding them that it isn’t over yet. After all, Carter Thomas will stop at nothing to be reunited with his ‘Princess’.
Whairigail's thoughts: *****5 Hearts?? No. An UNLIMITED NUMBER OF HEARTS would still never do this amazing piece of work justice!!!*****

My sixteenth was anything but sweet; it was more like the passage into hell on earth

This book is - hands down - my favourite book ever written. I know, I know - but it truly mean it.

I never offer more than 5 stars to a book as all other books I rate 5 stars have a flaw or two. Not this one.

It is utterly flawless, incredible, outstanding, beautiful and out of this world amazing.

Since I'm waffling on about how great this is, I suppose I better get on with the review.

Annabelle Spencer was a young, carefree teenager who was very much in love with her boyfriend Jack. Jack takes her to a nightclub for her 16th birthday. When there, they meet Carter - a disgusting criminal with a penchant for young innocent girls.

Carter gets what he wants - Anna - and murders Jack in front of her.

I couldn't breathe. My heart was breaking into a million pieces as I replayed the last couple of seconds in my head. In my mind's eye, I saw Jack's face as the two guys' hands left his body and he started falling. I'd never seen anyone look more terrified or helpless.

Carter kidnaps Anna, holds her hostage and does unspeakable things to her. Terrible, horrific and scarring things.

Fastforward a few years - Anna has been rescued and is attending College to major in Art. Her father is a US Senator who is running for Presidency and Anna is working her way though bodyguards like clean underware.

Enter Ashton Taylor - SWAT graduate, badass and all round SEX GOD

I turned back to Ashton, who was standing there looking like a cocky, arrogant Greek God

Ashton is assigned to be Anna's near guard - he must attend college with her, live with her and pretend to be her boyfriend.

Now...this would be simple IF Anna was willing to pretend and Ashton didn't feel like all his hard work in SWAT school had been for nothing.

Dont worry Ashton, he can't hurt me anymore, no one can. I have nothing left to lose

Anna and Ashton have a lot of obstacles to overcome - School, threaths to life, lust, anger, want and all manner of other things.

Can they get through these 8 months together and come out the other side?

Fcuk my life! This is going to be the longest eight months ever!

Anna and Ashton become Annaton and trust me - you will fall head over heels in love with this story and each of its charaters.

Everything was perfect and incredible

Just - go buy it folks, it is a true must read.
