"Age of the geek, baby."
In which Jack reviews
Have you ever had one of those days where you can get your jacket on because the sleeves won't go over both arms? Or where you are eating and somehow the fork keeps missing your mouth? I think it should be law that on days like those we should be allowed to stay in bed and read a book.
Now to the review.
The DeLallo's decided that when I came out they were going to show me the TV series called Leverage. They determined to get me through all five seasons of it. (Impossible, you say? You don't know us.) I'd only heard about the show from them, it didn't sound like one I would pick to watch on my own, but they all highly recommended it, and we shared a lot of the same likes in shows and movies so I trusted them. I am glad I did.
Leverage is about a team of highly skilled thieves. Their mastermind is Nate Ford, a man who used to be an insurance investigator later...well, turned thief. He's like a modern day Robin Hood - robs from the wealthy and gives to the poor. "The rich and famous take what they want, we steal it back for you." (Impressed? I quoted that from memory, in Nate's voice. That's what you get, watching five seasons in two weeks.)
Nate gets help from a hitter - Eliot -, a hacker - Hardison-, a thief - Parker -, and a gifter - Sophie. (They did one of the Get Smart jokes with Sophie, where through the whole show you never find out her real name.) Together they help people who have been taken advantage of by the rich. It is a fun show, and clean. (Though we skipped one episode where, I was told, there was a lot of off colour stuff in.)
Now, the what I liked about this show. First off, it was fun. It wasn't sad, or painful, or edge of your seat. It was exciting, and funny, and had happy endings. (It's the kind of show you need after you've had a really bad day and just want to be left alone for an hour or two.) Second, the characters. Nate and Sophie were okay, but not my favourites. They become kind of like the parents as the show goes on, which is a lot of fun. But they just weren't my top favourites. Mine were an equal tie between Hardison and Parker with Eliot close behind. Hardison is a geek. He quotes Star Trek and Doctor Who. He's cool. He's also a gentleman and very sweet.
And everything past this point has a risk of being filled with spoilers. I don't intend for there to be bad ones, but it sounds like everyone else in the world has seen this show and I am the last. So I am going to put some in.
I especially liked how Hardison was with Parker. He accepted that she was odd and socially awkward, and even though it was obvious he loved her, he didn't do anything to make her feel uncomfortable. He became her friend first and didn't try and change her. (And it was sweet, how he cheered her on every time she talked to someone - or made a friend - and didn't end up stabbing them with a fork.)
And I especially liked it when Hardison had to work with Eliot. They were funny together, complete opposites, and acted like brothers. (I think Hardison would have been the younger brother, doing everything he could to purposely annoy his older brother.) My favourites though were the moments Hardison got Eliot to have fun, like when they were chasing down bad guys and singing, and then Eliot would realize what he was doing and throw Hardison a look which seemed to say, "How dare you make me enjoy myself!"
And speaking of Eliot, I LOVED how he was with Hardison but especially Parker. He looked after her, and sometimes let her annoy him just because. (Such as when was wounded and she sat beside him and kept poking him.) There was another time as well, I can't remember what had happened, but Parker was upset over something. (From what I remember, some guy had done something to her, but for some reason I don't remember what was going on.) Anyways, she wanted to kill the guy and Eliot said he could do that for her. Because we all need big brothers who strangle people who aren't nice to us.
And now to Parker. Parker is one of those rare girl characters with unusual personality. She is very smart, but also a bit clueless. She doesn't understand how to act around other people. She is sweet and funny, brave, but as she gets used to working with Nate and the others she learns to let them help her with things. (She also believes Hardison can make anything happen. In a Christmas one there was no snow so she told Hardison to make it snow for her.)
She is a really fun character and I liked her a lot.
I liked the whole show a lot. It wasn't traumatic, though it did have some edge of your seat moments. *Gives Treskie a "You know which moment" look.* Now I am just hoping for a spin off, like the DeLallos, with Hardison, Parker, and Eliot. (It isn't nice that there are only five seasons of the show. Good shows are rare enough anyways, so they should have more seasons.)
And I am really bad at ending these reviews so....
The quote is from the show, Hardison's most used line. (I don't know what it means really, but by season three it made me smile every time he said it.)
Allons-y!

"Bye, bye boys! Have fun storming the castle!"
In Which Jack makes no sense
I've already been having a weird week and it is only two days into it. I caught some kind of flu yesterday afternoon, but didn't know it was a flu until I was falling asleep last night. Flus are bad enough on their own, but when you don't know you have one they are worse. At least when you know what they are you can curl up in bed and watch Agents of SHIELD. But if you think it is just an upset stomach you go running about all day thinking it will pass and waste the perfect chance to watch SHIELD. (I'm all better now, it was just one of those funky flus that go the next day.)
I thought for the last school year that it was my creative brain that has been trying to fail me at Math. Now, I am not so sure. Since I started school I've had the hardest time getting into the online classroom to do my homework and take my tests. I am now convinced it is the internet which is trying to fail me.
As your Evil Overlord, I decree that someone must be thrown in the dungeon. I discovered this the other day. And whoever didn't tell me about it is going to be punished by having their toes tickled. Oh course, there is no way to tell if it is fan made or what the movie is really going to be like...if it is fan made I shall be very crushed and will whoever I locked up for not telling me about it and will lock up the fan instead. (On top of the preview having Grant in it, it also had Taylor from Terra Nova and if he is in a Jurassic Park movie I will jump up and down and go out for ice cream.) (But, him being in it, has pretty much convinced me that it can't be the real movie.)
If you couldn't tell my the randomness, I am editing again.
I liked the suggestions I got for contests and giveaways and am hoping that those - aided with my somewhat creative mind - can help me think up a fun giveaway for my next book.
Spring is supposedly coming in the rest of the States. In my little corner of America, it can't make up its mind if it wants to be winter or fall. I silently glare at everyone who talks about how warm the weather is and how they are going for picnics or sitting out and reading in the sun. "Why not give me a nice paper cut and rub lemon juice in it while you're at it?"
I'd keep up with all of this but I have to get some of my reading done before I sleep. And I'd like to sleep before it gets terribly late. So I am going to end here.
If I can stop my wandering mind from wandering, I should have a TV show review for Wednesday. But my mind likes to go on vacations, so don't count on it. I think it has plans to visit the Bermuda Triangle the middle of this week.

Wherein Jack is random
This has not been an overly productive week, as you can tell from my AWOL since returning on Monday. I thought I could get right back into the middle of everything, but between sulking about from missing my friends, attempting to get caught up on Math again, and my newly caught cold I haven't had time or felt like doing much. I am going to start editing and writing again next week, and maybe attempting Camp NaNo, though I doubt it.
I also need to start reading more than I have. The books that I have offered to read and write early reviews on need to be done this month. Reading or finding time for it has never been a problem for me. But for some reason, whenever I open the books my mind wanders. It isn't that they are boring, it is more like my mind is rebellious and likes to do the opposite of what I need it to do. (I like that. That is my new theory behind why I can't get the hang of Math.)
I was going to share pictures from my visit, but when I went back to find some, I realized the only ones I could use were of scenery. If you want to see some fun ones though, you should check on Treskie's blog. (The link is on my sidebars.) I'm even in some of them.
That's about all I have today. I tried to think up something grand and fun to keep talking about but my head hurts too much. So I am going to leave you with my lack of words of wisdom, and this.
The winner of the Ransom Story Contest is KATHRYN! I will be sending you an email soon, Monday at the latest. This weekend is going to be busy for me.
But thank you everyone who sent something in. I had a lot of fun reading your entries.
And on that note, what are some of your favourite kinds of contests? I plan on doing another for when a Test of Loyalty is out, but I want to do fun ones that everyone will enjoy. If you have suggestions I'd love to hear them!
Quote is from Leverage, which I watched while visiting my friends. (Review coming soon, because it was good enough to have a review.)

"Well, I'm back."
Wherein Jack Returns
I kind of feel like Sam in that quote. I am happy to be home, I have a kind of special fondness for my own bed. I like my bed. My room. My family. (No, I didn't name them last because I like them least.) My Kitty. (There, now they are not last. She is last on purpose though, because the first thing she did when I walked in the door was demand I feed her. Not even a "Hi! Glad you're home!" Just, "FEED ME NOW, SLAVE!") But, as nice as it is to be back home, in my own room and bed and house, I REALLY miss my friends. I haven't had so much fun in a very long time. And now I want to go around shouting, "I HAVE FRIENDS! Real, breathing, human friends that exist!" And they are cool friends. Not the sort who sit around and talk about the weather but sit around in the sun and read books and go out for coffee and walks and quote movies. (I never knew how much fun it could be, going out for coffee.)
Anyways, I had an amazing time and got pictures to share and everything. Just not tonight. We had to wake up at three in the morning so I could get to my return flight on time, and I am...naturally...tired. I was going to post tomorrow, but I don't know if I should attempt it. I have boring food shopping to do, and all of that other boring stuff that has to be done at the end of lovely holidays. But I did want to give an update on the short story contest.
I am closing the entries, thank you everyone who sent one in! I've had a chance to read a few of them and they were really good. I am hoping to finish the rest of them tomorrow and then pick and announce a winner on Friday.(I think Wednesday I will do a post full of pictures, before I get things back to normal around here.) I also need to start editing again this week and get caught up on Math, so I'm not sure I should attempt setting tomorrow as a deadline for me to finish the rest of the stories. Might hurt my brain, which I do very easily.
What else.....I have lots of reviews to do, some on some really good books I read recently, so you can watch for those. I have some movies as well, and a TV show. Exciting, right?
I was also contacted by some fellow Authors while I was gone, four of them. Asking me to read early drafts of their books. Three I will be doing early reviews for, and I will be taking part in some cover reveals. So there will be lots coming up, along with the usual character reveals from The Broken Blade books.
And there was probably a lot more, but I am falling asleep and I don't want to attempt and think anymore. That is asking too much from my sleep deprived brain. I might short fuse something. Good bye. Good night, sleep well, I'll most likely kill you in the morning."

"I have come BACK from the dead!"
Okay, so not really the dead...but you get the idea. Because of the whole packing thing, and getting ahead on school assignments - which COMPLETELY backfired thanks to Math - and the apparently wonderful ransoms, I have been released a day early so I can get some things on my blog done before I leave on my very exciting and fun holiday!
Actually, the only things I need to do on here is thank everyone who sent in ransoms. It wasn't too bad being kidnapped by my own characters, I got TONS of reading done, but it is nice to be back. I did find out that the characters decided I have to read the stories and pick a winner, which is one reason it has been moved to the end of this month. So keep sending stories in! I will read them when I get back and pick a winner! (I've been told the winner is to receive a copy of Abolished Impracticality.)
Also, as has likely been assumed, I am going to be enjoying my holiday. So I won't be answering emails unless they are important and I won't be posting. Though when I get back I believe John, Clara, and Sammy will have lots of pictures to share from our trip.
When I get back everything will be back to normal around here. I will be answering comments and reading all of your wonderful blogs again. (Part of the whole kidnapping thing was I had limited internet access. And my characters were so busy bickering about ovens and ears none of them remembered to read blogs.)
I have some character reveals for when I get back too.
But the biggest thing before I go is I promised to reveal the release date for the second Loyalty book. I've also decided to do the title as well.
It would be fun if I was creative and had some fanfare to go with this. But even on my best days I am not overly creative, and my mind has been sucked dry by Math, so this is far from my best day. So the best I can do is to drag it out as long as possible and then do the following.
The Release Date For Book Two is......
June 14th!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Surprise? You've probably caught onto my pattern by now. Like I said, not overly creative.)
Now for the title...............
There, that was long enough, don't you think?
Just to be safe.
The title for the second book in the Loyalty Trilogy is.....
A Test of Loyalty.
TADA!!!!
Okay, so maybe I was locked in that cave too long...
I shall now be leaving all of you. I have some last minute packing to do and one more book to finish. I shall "see" you all again on April 1st! Have a wonderful Spring Break!

Darcy
I never get to do one of these without stealing them from Peter Jones, so I am going to attempt one all on my own.
My name is Darcy Steed. I'm second-in-command on board the airship Black Beard. My grumpy brother is the captain. And now, I didn't get second-in-command just because of that...well, I kind of did, but that isn't the point.
Everyone has been talking about the mutiny going on around here, but that kind of ended so I don't see any point in mentioning it further. I'd almost say that my brother and that pointy eared fellow are friends now, but I don't think Shamus is every really friends with anyone so I won't go that far. I haven't really cared about the mutiny one way or the other. (While it was going on I had control of the airship and had a bit of fun. Went down to the Americas and met some real cowboys, almost got Peter Jones eaten by a cougar...so it was all fun.)
It's actually been kind of boring around here. Jack is still refusing to write and spends all day working on school, packing, and reading. I've seen some stupid ideas in my day - I know Jones, remember? - but I think the whole kidnapping was the worse. Do you know what it is like, being a character and having all kinds of free time and not even sure what to do with it? I want some action! Maybe a battle or two. Or at least a near death experience...
But I shouldn't complain. Sounds whiny. And I don't whine. Unless I am trying to annoy my brother, then I can whine better than anyone else in the world.
I'm thinking of commandeering the airship again today. It snowed, and is freezing cold, where Jack lives. This calls for an adventure in some kind of desert climate. Might force Jones into going to Africa with me or something. If I get really ambitious later I can even write all about our adventure, but don't spend too much time waiting around for that, I'm not overly ambitious when it comes to writing.
I did get one of these done, all on my own though. So I feel accomplished enough now to stop and go find something more interesting to do. (You know, the usual. Torment Jones, annoy my brother. I've a full day ahead of me.)
Have fun doing whatever you normally-ish people do.

Ryder-Adair
This is going to be interesting. Hi! My name is Ryder-Adair, I am one of the Broken Blade Boys...Jack's name for us. I'm the one who cannot read or write, so I'm talking and Striker is writing this for me.
Odd, we know.
I don't even know what I am supposed to say, but it was dubbed my turn. So I have to say something.
For those concerned about Jack...Striker, Peter, and I have been keeping as good of care of her as one can keep of one's Author. She's pretty easy to take care of.
As for the mutiny that has been going around. Steed did carry it out, and...well, I missed most of it. But Peter says he somehow angered half his crew and they refused to fight with him, and Trystan insulted him being French and Steed insulted his ears and it ended with them flying to France for breakfast. I think they are both in charge now, but everyone has been too concerned to ask and make sure.
Those of us who haven't been arguing the issue of who is in charge and who isn't have been roasting marshmallows and making these things Jack calls smores. Whoever came up with them is a genus. They have a kind of cracker over them and chocolate and marshmallows in the middle. Very good. Everyone should try them if they haven't already.
It is kind of nice having a bit of a break in the middle of a dangerous mission. I thought I was going to be spending the rest of the winter fighting battles. Instead, I get to eat all kinds of new foods and listen to an Elf and a Frenchman argue about who makes a better leader and why. It is very entertaining. Jack could write a book on the two of them and keep all of you amused for the rest of your lives.
I guess that is all I have to say. I wanted to reassure all of you that we...some of us...are being very kind of our Author and the ransoms have been appeasing Trystan so keep them coming if you can. Now I am going to leave. There are plans to light a fire tonight and swap scary stories. Should be fun.

Steed/ Trystan
This is late today. Oh well. We've had a bit of trouble in the...ranks....and haven't had time for these...posts. This is Steed, by the way. Captain Shamus Steed, Air Pirate, captain of the airship Black Beard. And currently mutiny leader against Jack's pointy eared kidnapper.
First, let me make this clear. I am not mutinying because I want to rescue Jack. Sure, I like her well enough, but after some of the things she has done to me I think a bit of kidnapping is good for her. I am mutinying because that pointy eared Elf has no idea how to run something like this. He is clueless, completely clueless...
Aha! I knew it! You're trying to get them all on your side, aren't you? Think you can get their sympathies by your lies!
It isn't a lie, and you know it! You almost burned down part of our prison....ahem, I mean snug little room we are keeping Jack in....because you don't know how to use a completely functional oven!
That was not functional! I told you, none of that would have happened if you had let me cook those chickens over an open fire.
Just, stick them on a spit and turn them till they stopped clucking, right? You're idea of cooking is just making sure it isn't moving anymore, that isn't cooking! Food is supposed to melt in your mouth and taste delicious.
Like I've said. Any time you want to take over cooking feel free.
Jack has ordered you to cook. And that isn't the only problem. You're incredibly bossy.
We have just kidnapped my Author and you're trying to lead an uprising - yes, I am going to be a little bossy!
I think it is just because you're a hundred. You think since you're an old man you can do whatever you want.
I told you a million times, I'm not old! I'm fairly young in fact!
How come you're so grumpy then?
Because I have to put up with you and your sibling! That would make anyone grumpy! Ask that....whatever his name is, the one who works on your airship. The big, burly one. He'd confirm it.
Tony? Tony doesn't count, he's Russian. Russians are known for being grumpy.
Really, and you're French, right?
Right....
So what is your excuse?
You know, I think you'd be best friends with Jones.
I've seen Peter Jones around a lot...he's the short one with the funny ears, isn't he?
That sums him up very well.
Well, if he has enough sense not to like you he can't be all bad.
And there went all of your brilliance. I thought for sure you'd come to your senses and realized at least something clever - like how Jones is very annoying and funny looking.
You know, how does Darcy feel-
I think I hear Jack calling you.
NOT AGAIN!
*Snicker* Still so sure you don't want to give up command?
Give me another hour with her and I might consider it.
Okay, so....I was supposed to let everyone know that with everything going on around here - like Jack still needing the computer for her school work - we won't have a chance to get all the short story ransoms read and a winner picked until after she is back. So we've extended the date to send them in. You can keep sending till the end of March, and when Jack is back she will help us pick a winner and mail out the book.
And that is all I have. I think I might fly over to France today and pick up some real food, like pastries.

Jerolin
Hello...
I have no idea if that is the right way to start one of these, but, hello again.
My name is Jerolin. Very likely none of you have heard about me before. I am one of the characters in the book Jack is co-Authoring with her friend. (She did something while back where she let you meet my brother, Adrian.) Now, from what Jack has told me, it is my turn, but since she has been kidnapped I have to do this on my own.
As I said, I am Adrian's older brother - though as he said, we aren't blood related. I am the son of the couple that took him in and raised him. He's always been like a brother to me, even if he is the son of a king and queen and we've always gotten along very well - though, I guess not perfectly.
My father is the local printer and I've been working with him when I get the time, though I am training - was training - to become a blacksmith. I fit better as a blacksmith. I can't get the tiny print to lay right, and I keep dropping papers. Adrian is a much better printer than I can ever hope to be.
(Writing one of these things is harder than I thought it would be....I've run out of things to say.)
I enjoy being outdoors. Adrian and I go fishing whenever we get the chance. and we've hiked all over the outlaying land around us. And, like everyone else in my village, I love the baked cooks which Adrian's best friend Christa makes. She is a born baker.
Annnnndddd.....I kind of think that explains me very well, though it does make me sound incredibly boring. I never thought how boring I do sound till right now. I do have a fairly quiet life, well, did. That has changed because Adrian now knows who he is and he has to go and face the man who killed his father and I plan to help him however possible. So that is sure to lead to an adventure, though it is one I wish didn't have to happen. I think it is unfair how life turns out sometimes. Adrian having to be a prince when all he wanted was to be a printer. But I promised him I'd stop letting this upset me since there is nothing we can do to change it. Maybe I can get Christa to give me a bit of cake or something....
Hopefully I didn't mess this up too badly. These are much harder than anyone lad me to believe.
Good bye

Peter
It has been so long since I've been on here I am not sure where to start. Part of me thinks I should make some kind of apology on Striker's behalf, since this whole scheme wasn't his idea, but then again, he is friends with the mastermind behind all of this. Also, taking that into consideration, I did end up taking part in it too, though by the time I heard of it Jack had already been kidnapped. Never fear though, as long as I am around I won't let anything happen to her.
Steed: *Snort*
To be honest, I don't think Jack is too upset about the whole thing. She's been making Trystan work for keeping her locked up - she is far more bossy than I ever dreamed possible. Maybe she does have it in her to be an Evil Overlord.
Anyways. Trystan decided that we all have to take over her site, as Striker already said. (I don't know what makes the strange, pointy eared fellow think he is in charge but Steed is not happy about it and I think he is plotting a mutiny. Probably with Darcy's help. I think I will just sneak into the kitchen for a snack while it isn't being guarded.)
Thanks for all your suggestions on food by the way. Other than tea, I have no idea what Jack likes. It isn't like she even eats that much. Normally. Since she's been kidnapped she keeps complaining to Trystan about being hungry and making him cook. It's kind of funny, but he's not that good of a cook, so it isn't too funny because he keeps trying to get all of us to eat the things that he makes a mess of. (Come to think of it, maybe I will help if there is a mutiny.)
I don't know what else to say. I'm not really that great at these things...
Darcy: That's an understatement!
I thought it wouldn't be long before you showed up to try and take over.
I never take over, Fly Boy. I just keep things from getting boring and stop you from humiliating yourself.
Aw, like you do on the airship? How did that work again? You were trying to liven things up and keep me from humiliating myself by almost falling to your death?
Don't argue with my system. If it works it works.
Okay, but just remember, next time I might not feel like saving you.
Nice try, Fly Boy. You always try and save everyone.
At least you hope so, right?
Sure. Trystan just abandoned the kitchen. Do you want to try and make some pancakes or something?
You can cook?
No, but neither can you, that's what makes it half the fun.
Okay, but so long as Singur isn't in there. You know what happens when he gets close to kitchens.
Steed: And....they just left it open. I'm surprised anything gets done when those two are together. Good bye, or whatever Jack says.
