Hilariously Good Video: “How to Make a Baby”
Took a lot of months to make this:
Excerpt from the link:
We made this video using a technique called “pixilation”, which is a fancy term for stop-motion animation done with real people instead of puppets. We shot it, frame by frame, with Raquel’s Canon DSLR over a period of nine months. Those of you who stopped by our house might have noticed some mysterious tape marks on the floor in the living room. Those were for the camera tripod and our feet.

Best Bathroom Library Ever
Uncle John started panting like a dog when he saw these.
These were taken by photographer Joshua Simpson—and are published here with his permission. (Thank you very much, Joshua!)
They show the bathroom/library in the New York City apartment of author Michael Cunningham, best known for his Pulitzer Prize winning 1988 novel The Hours.
Hey! We can think of a book that would look perfect in there…

Hogs Eat Oregon Man
Warning! Real life horror story ahead:
COOS BAY, OR (KPTV) - An Oregon man trying to feed his 700-pound hogs was eaten by the animals Thursday, and sheriff’s deputies are trying to determine what led up to his death.
Terry Garner, who lived near the rural town of Riverton in southern Oregon, went to feed the animals on his farm at 7:30 a.m.
When he wasn’t seen for several hours, a family member went to look for him, and found Garner’s dentures on the ground in front of the hog enclosure, which housed several of the animals.
Look out:
While searching the hog enclosure, the family member found Garner’s body in several pieces, with a majority of it consumed by the hogs, the district attorney said.
Foul play has not been ruled out.

Commodore 64 Yourself
This is funny. We just found “C64Yourself,” a website that allows you to simply drag and drop an image into a box, and it will convert it so it looks like images did on the classic early home computer, the 1982 Commodore 64. Like this:

Spotify Does Uncle John’s: “Unsung Heroes”
We’ve got a still pretty new and very exciting partnership with digital music-streaming service Spotify going: they publish one of our (fantastic!) music articles, along with a related embeddable music player. Give the very latest a look/listen when you get a chance.
Here’s an excerpt from the article:
UNSUNG HEROES
September 26, 2012, 06:25
You may not recognize their names, but you’ve heard their music more times than you know. These teams of studio musicians have played on hundreds of hit records over the last 50 years. Do you know any other Unsung Heroes? Let us know in the comments.
The Wrecking Crew
That’s the nickname these musicians from the 1960s gave themselves after the old line studio players, who hated rock, complained that they were “wrecking the business.” The band, which included Hal Blaine (drums), Joe Osborne (bass), Larry Knechtel (keyboards), Glen Campbell (guitar), and Leon Russell (piano), were producer Phil Spector’s “go-to” guys.
The Wrecking Crew played on six consecutive Record of the Year Grammy winners: “A Taste of Honey” by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass (1966), “Strangers in the Night” by Frank Sinatra (1967), “Up, Up and Away” by the Fifth Dimension (1968), “Mrs. Robinson” by Simon and Garfunkel (1969), “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In” by the Fifth Dimension (1970), and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon and Garfunkel (1971).
Selected Hits: “Be My Baby” by the Ronettes • “Surf City” by Jan and Dean • “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” by the Righteous Brothers • “I Got You, Babe” by Sonny and Cher • “Mr. Tambourine Man” by the Byrds • “California Dreamin’” by the Mamas and the Papas • “This Diamond Ring” by Gary Lewis and the Playboys • “Good Vibrations” by the Beach Boys • “I’m a Believer” by the Monkees • “River Deep, Mountain High” by Ike and Tina Turner
• There’s much more of the article at Spotify.

YouTube: Two Businessmen Fight Over NYC Cab [updated]
Update: YouTube pulled that video.
But ve have our vays, don’t ve?
End of update.
_______
Fairly embarrassing, really. (And, if you please, don’t read comment below until you’ve watched the video!):
Top comment at YouTube [when it was there]:
My dad, Ron [ ], caught this between film financing meetings in NYC. He missed the first 10 seconds where the cab pulled up and both guys fought to get in. The cabbie pulled forward ten yards or so to let the poor guy in the cab get out. This is why the two suits are alone at the top of the video. Check out the lady in Red!
Did not even notice the lady in red the first two times!

Bathtub Plane!
Hey Ed – we’ve got the perfect in-flight reading for you!
Ed Kusmirek has built something special. Starting in his family room, then continuing in a garage near his house in Renton, he’s fashioned what looks like an elaborate go-cart with wings.
It’s a precise replica of a vintage airplane, a 1924 super-light “Dormoy Bathtub.” Almost six decades ago, Boeing retiree Kusmirek, 84, hatched the dream of recreating this particular piece of aviation history — and flying it.
Now with his airplane built, Kusmirek needs only approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and a quick refresher of his flying skills to take it up.
LET ED FLY! LET ED FLY!
We’ve got start a movement or something!
More great pics of the bathtub plane over here.
