Comedic Appropriation

Muhammad Rasheed - In D. W. Griffith's The Birth of a Nation film, the black-faced White actors that were hamming it up displaying their version of how buffoonish Black people are supposed to be, used many moves that are currently associated with the comedy style of the most popular member of the Three Stooges, Jerome "Curly Howard" Horwitz.

Based on the historical track record of a race-based hierarchical caste system like the USA, which of the following  scenarios do you think is most likely true?


As a very impressionable 12 year old when The Birth of a Nation was released in 1915, and since the film proved to be SUCH a phenomenon, Curly took on the buffoonery displayed by the over-enthusiastic racist actors for himself, and practiced them until it became his signature style.

The comedy style tropes we associate with Curly were always how goofy and athletic White vaudeville comedians made fun of Black people at the turn of the century. The popularity of the Three Stooges allowed the actual origins of Curly's style to be swallowed up in history since anyone doing it during the golden age of television would then be seen as performing a 2nd rate Curly impression.

Curly’s style came from White vaudeville comedians, who in turn appropriated it from an unsung Black comedian, whose name is now lost to history.

I don't believe hate speech -- the same speech that traditionally spins-up mobs of white conservatives to lynch people "they don't like" -- should be included within the Freedom of Speech protections. Speech that specifically encourages violence is fundamentally wrong.

Let's stick to solving the real problems and stop creating fake fantasy problems to distract from what the rabid white conservatives routinely do that cause so much pain in the country.

Muhammad Rasheed - I need you to think about the weird false equivalencies you are trying to use to prove these threats against Ilhan are magically not racist and evil. That's not the speech protected by our Freedom of Speech rights, and it is evil for you to even want to protect that kind of talk when we BOTH know that when white conservatives talk that way it leads to the death of innocent Black people.

If anything you should be asking me if I support the lynching of Black people for trying to be free of white tyranny, like they do in my own nation's culture, right?

The "relatively small number of blacks" comment you're trying to add is your disingenuous effort to 1) pretend racism isn't real so you don't have to pay Reparations, and 2) if you DO end up paying Reparations you hope to confine it only to the slave era itself and avoid it's multi-generational effects on the diabolical institution's legacy descendants.

The answer for the third time is "Yes." They are coming to enjoy the benefits & privileges built from ADOS exploitation & plundered wealth, so yes, they should and will have to contribute to the long overdue payout of Reparatory Justice you've been avoiding for 150 yrs.
