Citation by the Jury for the Crossword Book Award 2013 for Children’s Writing

The drudgery, complexity and rigour of creative writing are not exactly the ingredients of a story. Rather than the basis of a storybook, and a children’s book at that, this material belongs squarely in the realm of textbooks. The genius of author Payal Kapadia and her pocket-sized creative writing storybook, Wisha Wozzariter, is the manner in which she has transformed such a drab subject into a wonderful, colourful, absorbing book.

Payal’s book is imaginative, creative and witty. It is one...

Young India Books

Wisha hated bad books, but she hated one thing even more: good ones. Good books always left her feeling she could do better if she were to write a book of her own. She’d put down a good book, sighing, ‘Now that’s a book I could have written.’

So this is Wisha’s problem – she wants to write books, the kind of books she hates to read because they make her wish that she had written it. But she does not know how and where to begin. That is, until she meets Bookworm, who is, well, a bookworm. He be...

The Book Worm (blog)

A few weeks back, my daughter took the book with her to the Kahaani Karnival held in Mumbai and got it signed by the author. One happy kid! :-)

What really got me interested inWisha Wozzariter by Payal Kapadiawas the premise. It was a very ‘realistic’ setting, especially as my daughter is a voracious reader herself and reads day in and day out, including most part of the night when she is awake. Also the fact that she wants to be a writer when she grows up and is already writing her own little s...

Saffron Tree (blog)

When the crocus was announced this year, it sort of made me think of a book I just read, in a totally different light. We all undertake journeys, almost all the time. Children take the school bus and we go to work in different modes of transportation, we all walk to the park, market and such “mundane” trips are undertaken on a daily basis. Then, of course, we welcome holidays to get a break from this monotony and we go places, new or old. However, we often return – sooner or later – to the pla...

The Hindu – Write all you can

Follow Wisha as she travels to the Market Place to collect Ideas.

“Oh! I could have written this,” is what Wisha says when she finishes reading a book. Ten-year-old Wisha is a voracious reader and can read at anytime of the day. And though she hates bad books, good books irk her even more.

It is her tenth birthday that changes her life forever. Goaded by the inspiring green little bookworm who pops up to make her realise that she should stop talking and start writing Wisha goes on a whirlwind t...
