Excerpt from A Tiger’s Claim

Travis Hunter’s blood froze in his veins at the piercing female scream that echoed through the forest. He was moving just as the sharp scent of blood tainted the crisp mountain air mixed with the rancid smell of the rogue mutants. His night vision, along with the silver glow of the full moon, allowed him to maneuver around the trees with ease. Just before reaching the rogues, he took one last leap and shifted in mid-air, his clothes dissolving in a flash, then replaced by brown fur. He landed on a human-like rogue and locked his teeth onto the male’s throat. With a jerk, Travis snapped his spinal cord at the base of his neck. Dropping the limp body, he turned in time to take the full force of a mutant as he attacked. They rolled in a tangle of limbs until slamming against a large rock.

Travis bit back the pain that rocked through his body. Fury built inside him and called the internal flame he kept contained since the night his burned his den down. Heat grew in his cells, consumed him fully until he glowed in a reddish-orange hue.

The mutant’s eyes grew round in fear with the knowledge that Travis held the power to call fire at will. Or, in this case, out of pure rage. Travis snapped his teeth and growled at the half-wolf, half-man, then slammed his paw into the creature’s chest and shoved the heat into the mutant. The fire consumed him in a flash of orange and blue flames.

Travis whirled away from the screams of the burning male and froze. Several feet away another male, this one in human form, crouched over the still body of a female.  A low growl escaped from his throat as he charged. Travis barreled into the large male. He tackled him to the ground and bit down on the male’s neck, hard enough to break through the skin and bone.

After throwing the dead male aside, Travis shifted back to his human form and went to the female. Crouching down beside her, he pressed two fingers to her throat. Relief washed some of the rage away when a weak pulse fluttered under his fingers. He scooped her up in his arms and carried her home.

Alpha Challenge #SixSentenceSunday

Happy Sunday! Welcome back to another Six Sentence Sunday. For those who are new to SSS, it’s like a blog hop where a group of authors shares teasers (usually 6 sentences) from their current releases or works in progress. It’s super fun to follow.

This week’s tantalizing six is from Alpha Challenge, which releases on March 26! Enjoy!

Facing her, he crossed his arms over his chest. “You’re not a sentry.”

She slammed the door hard enough it rattled the few pictures he had on the wall. “I’m responsible for those kids and I have a right to go get them.”

Her blue eyes darkened but he saw the sadness and pain of failing to protect the kids. There was something darker in her depths that mirrored his own fears and failures. He chest tightened and his leopard paced. “Why was Luna so quick to let you join the sentries in the search?”

Winter Eve Excerpt #ShiftersofAshwoodFalls #firstinaseries

Movement to his right caught his attention, and he narrowed his eyes for a better look. A large leopard crouched, staring at him from the roadside. With eyes that reflected the full moon’s light, the creature blinked and let out a soft growl before it turned to walk up a gravel driveway.

The animal was beautiful, scary, and its eyes held a hint of humanity. Could it be a were? Sarah hadn’t said anything about others living this far up the mountain. When the beast turned to look at him, he swore it wanted him to follow. He took a step forward, and the cat started walking again.

“Oh, great, Nev. You’re being lead away by a cat, like Alice and that damn rabbit,” he muttered to himself. No one would ever believe him. In fact, it was probably leading him to the den to share with the rest of the pack. Shaking his head at the ridiculous thought, he walked up the driveway. The cat sped up, running ahead much too fast for him. Then it darted into the woods a few feet from a single-story log cabin nestled into the surrounding trees. Another step caused a blinding light to click on, illuminating the front of the yard and the cabin. A few moments later, the door opened, revealing the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. She stepped out onto the large wide porch. Her straight silk-like strawberry blond hair cascaded over her shoulders and stopped at her waist. The light of the full moon cast against her pale skin made her look like a goddess.

“What can I do to help you?”

Her velvety smooth voice warmed his body and awoke a very specific part of his anatomy. It was several seconds before he found his voice and shook out of the trance she’d cast upon him. “I crashed my car and wondered if you have a phone. My cell doesn’t get service up here.”

“I don’t have a phone.” Her gaze left him to search their surroundings and stopped as she glanced toward the dark sky as though she saw something he didn’t, or couldn’t, see. “But, come inside. You’ll freeze to death in the storm.” She turned and walked back inside.

Storm?

A single snowflake drifted in front of his face, landing on his nose.

Chaotic War – Excerpt

ChaoticWarYou’re fucking weak.

Elle painted while her mind reeled with thoughts of Zavier holding her as she slept. Usually, his touch muted the invasion of the visions, but not this time. Images that she didn’t recognize, which had grown more and more fuzzy the longer she was awake, had disturbed what would’ve been a peaceful sleep.

She shouldn’t be surprised, though. The dreams had been getting worse. And so was the increase of power running through her veins. It was as if something inside her was waking up. What, she didn’t know. She sensed something dark, which pushed her to do more research on Nyx, her mother and the goddess of night.

Nyx had mothered a number of gods and daimons, including the two spirits of death; the keres were female daimons of cruel death, and Thanatos was the god of non-violent death. Although some scriptures considered Thanatos a daimon. But it was the blood-hungry keres Elle fixed on. The she-daimons were vicious and violent.

Elle’s blood ran cold with fear. What if she turned into a creature like her sisters?

Then there was the threat on Zavier’s life. She gripped the brush tighter. Garrick would die before she let him harm anyone she cared about, including her dragon. Although she wasn’t sure she wanted to mate him just yet, she knew it would come to that one day.

“You should get more sleep.”

Elle shook her head at Gwen’s soft command. “I can’t.”

“Did your nap help?”

Casting her friend a narrow-eyed glare over her shoulder, Elle pursed her lips. After a moment, she relaxed and set her brush and palette on the worktable then sat on the leather loveseat in her half of the room. “It’s been too long since I’ve had a peaceful sleep. I’m not sure I’ll ever have one. Zavier stirs up too much emotion.”

The dragon frustrated her, turned her on, and made her want things that were impossible—like a normal, vision-free life.

Gwen sat beside her and took her hands. “You let fear drive you. I can feel it surrounding you. Fear fuels the darkness. You must learn to use it in a positive way.”

“Easy for you to say. You’re not half daimon.”

“True, but not all daimons are bad. Sure, because they’re Nyx’s children, they’re more powerful than daemons and many have god-like strengths, but…” Gwen hugged her and leaned her head against Elle’s. “Search inside yourself. Find your light and let it shine.”

Elle let a soft chuckle escape. There was a time when Gwen would have boldly spoken her mind. However, since her powers had been unlocked, she’d had to learn to be less bold and more vague. She was, after all, a goddess of fate, so her words could alter one’s future if she weren’t careful. Sometimes things slipped out and Aphrodite had to come in to do damage control.

“It’s hard when my dreams are filled with so much death and gloom.” Elle pulled out of Gwen’s embrace, stood, and then paced the floor. “Part of me wants to open the floodgates and unlock my powers. I mean, I can feel them getting stronger, but the headaches are worse. What if unlocking them makes me insane or kills me?”

Gwen jumped to her feet and gripped Elle’s shoulders. Elle stared into her eyes, shocked at the speed her friend had moved. Power whirled around the room a moment before Gwen spoke. “You will not die.”

Silence filled the air for several long moments. Then Gwen frowned and released her. When she stepped away, Elle reached for her, but Gwen held up a hand.

Crap. Gwen had used her powers to… to what? Make Elle immortal? When Elle opened her mouth to ask what it all meant, a zing of power drifted into the room, changing the pressure of the air slightly. Turning around, Elle expected Aphrodite, but the goddess who materialized wasn’t her.

Black mist shifted into a tall, beautiful goddess with hair the color of night and eyes that mirrored Elle’s. Nyx wore a long, black gown that covered her feet and spilled out onto the floor. Her black hair cascaded over her shoulders and hung down to her hips.

Elle stood, staring at her mother. She had called to the goddess so many times in the last few months. And Nyx picked this moment to show. Elle didn’t know whether to be mad or happy to see her. There were so many lies and unanswered questions.

A #SixSentenceSunday tease from Seth in Chaotic War.

This week’s tantalizing six is from Seth’s point of view from Chaotic War (Dragons of Ares, book 3) Enjoy!

When he opened the photos, he stilled and stared at the two of them, cheek-to-cheek, smiling as Blair took a selfie. Rayna was beautiful.

Mine.

He agreed with the dragon. Rayna was theirs.

Ashes of War – Excerpt

Ash materialized inside her townhouse, her heart still stuttering and her body flushed from being so close to Ty. Gods, he looked good, and his scent… It clung to her, seeping into her mind and skin. Tamping down rising desire, she walked to the fridge and jerked it open to grab a bottle of water.

What she was about to do went against all logic of being Ty’s judge and jury, however, Ash couldn’t see any other way to prove his innocence in regard to Elizabeth’s death. No one in Olympus could tell her anything other than he had done it. Yet, Ash’s gut told her there was more to the story, secrets the gods didn’t want to reveal.

Her mother’s words rang inside her head. Seduce the dragon if you must. Either way, he will face judgment in seven days.

A heavy knock sounded on the door, making her jump. Squeezing her eyes shut, she took a deep breath then pushed off the counter. She yanked the door open and strode to the living room, allowing Ty to follow her inside the townhouse. Her hands shook, but it wasn’t from fear. No, she didn’t fear him. She wanted him so badly it hurt to be close to him.

Her only explanation for the reaction was she’d lost her edge, or perhaps she was just losing her mind. “Would you like a beer?” she asked, peeking over her shoulder.

He shook his head and crossed his arms over his broad chest, pulling his long sleeved shirt tighter against his muscles. “What do you need to talk to me about?”

She held her tongue like she’d done at the ruins of Garrick’s lab. Fighting with Ty would only make her job more difficult. She needed his trust and cooperation.

Even though she could sense the darkness within him, she also picked up on his light—the little inner peace he clung to. Meeting his stare, she said, “I need your help, but I know you don’t trust me.”

The muscles in his temples flexed. “I trust no one but my brothers.”

Yes, she’d known that. Steeling her back, she stared into the dark lenses of the shades he always wore. “My true mission is to find Elizabeth’s killer and pass judgment.”

He didn’t move, just stood there staring at her through those damned shades. “Why are you telling me?”

She closed her eyes briefly before she sat on the sofa facing him. “I need you to trust me and help me. Lying to you about my true purpose would give you more reason not to trust me. I also need you to believe I’m on your side.”

He let out a humorless laugh and unfolded his arms. “So coming clean is supposed to make me trust you? You have to earn my trust, female.”

She didn’t need this shit. She stood, stepped into his space, and glared into the lenses of his shades. “Fine, then. You can leave. I’ll get my answers from Garrick instead.”

She pushed past him, but he stopped her by grabbing her upper arm. Then he leaned close, his lips barely brushing her ear. “I didn’t say I wouldn’t help you.”

“I can’t work with someone who doesn’t trust me.”

She swore she saw the corner of his lips twitch before he said, “I learned a long time ago that the people closest to you can screw you, so don’t take it personally.”

Jerking her arm free from his grasp, she walked to the refrigerator and pulled out two beers. She rounded the corner and ran into Ty. He slid his hands up her arms and held her in place. For a moment, she couldn’t breathe. The intensity of his sage scent and the power surrounding him made her weak in the knees and heat pooled between her legs.

A dark brow rose over the top rim of his shades. “We have to take care of one small issue first.”

She swallowed, hating the weakness this man and his damn dragon created in her. “What’s that?”

He pressed his cheek to hers, bit lightly on her ear lobe, and whispered. “I want to fuck you until you scream.”

Well, damn.

Elle paced the small cage, her hands fisted at her sides. Somehow, Garrick had muted her powers or cast a spell around the cell that kept her from using any of her magic against him. A low snarl escaped from her as she smelled the male at the door to the room he kept her in. “Where is Zavier?”

An evil laugh sounded through the room before he stepped into view. “He will be with us soon.”

“You will burn in Tartarus.”

War’s Passion ~ Excerpt

He nodded. A shy smile formed on her lips as she stepped closer to him. “Do something for me first?”

Unfolding his arms, he wrapped them around her waist and drew her into him. “What does my little love goddess want?”

Her nose scrunched up at the title, and she flatted her hands on the chest. “Change into your dragon.”

Drawing back, he studied her. There was no fear in the blue depths of her eyes, just curiosity.  “Are you sure?”

Her head bobbed up and down. “I need to get over my fears. I trust you, even in the short time that we’ve known each other. If I agree to have sex with you to gain my strength back, I need to be able to accept all of you.”

He pressed a kiss to her forehead, then stepped back, knowing her eyes never left him while he stripped. Her gaze caressed his naked skin and, gods, if it didn’t feel like a physical touch.

Fuck. His body warmed and his skin tingled, needing her hands on him.

Once his clothes were removed, he turned and walked about twenty feet from her. He didn’t want his tail or wings injuring her as he shifted. Turning to face her, he spread his arms. Usually he could shift in a matter of seconds, sometimes faster, depending on the situation, but right now he wanted to take it slow.

Mostly because he didn’t want to scare her.

“What are you waiting on?” she called out, teasing.

The corner of his lips lifted as he visualized his dragon in his head. It was an automatic process. One he’d been born knowing, since he was never a child and most things came naturally to him and his brothers.

Giving into his dragon and allowing the beast to take over, he completed the transformation. The burn of power grew from the center of his chest then shot out in all directions as his body grew and changed in a flash of black and blue.

Extending his wings, he stretched them wide before folding them back into his body. He stared down the beach and spotted Gwen where he’d left her. Only now she appeared to be closer due to the fact he was now the size of a passenger train car.

Lowering his large body into the warm sand, he waited—hoping she wouldn’t have a panic attack—for her to approach him. It was ten painfully slow minutes before she approached. Excitement he never knew before filled him at her acceptance.

Hesitation slowed her steps and when stopped about a foot away from his snout, she just stared.

#SixSentenceSunday from Ashes of War

A twig snapped and he whirled to face the intruder. As soon as the redheaded goddess came into to full view, he froze and his heart pounded. Her hair hung in silky waves around her shoulders and her green eyes sparkled like emeralds. He let his gaze travel down her body. A tight black V-neck sweater and black jeans clung to her modest curves and his palms itched to touch her, to see if she was real.

“Are you going to stand there and stare at me all day?” Ashlynn stepped toward him, her expression a mysterious blend of coyness and invitation.
