🔥 A Saint for the Season 🔥
How are you doing today?
For those in the United States celebrating Thanksgiving, it reminds me of the benefits of being thankful. That includes sharing in the joys and good things in life. I want to thank you for being part of my joy and good things in life!

To celebrate this series, I wanted to send you some other saints. People who stand up for what’s right and are willing to intervene to ensure justice is done. A few Saints for the Season.
Here’s the story of Kevin Vickers, the Sergeant-at-Arms at Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
A jihadist gunman armed with a rifle breached the security perimeter of the Canadian parliament after shooting a guard in the back. Then, he hijacked a minister’s limousine, drove across the parliament grounds, and entered the building.
When Vickers heard about it, he loaded his Smith and Wesson pistol with a 15-bullet clip and one round in the chamber. He was shown the gunman was hiding behind a thick pillar in the parliament hall. Vickers ran and stood right on the opposite side of the same pillar.
Vickers tells his story, remembering “the sickening sound of him [the terrorist] breathing.” Vickers stayed in that position for about two minutes, waiting for the right moment to strike. He says he got a glimpse of the terrorist. “He was trying to look around the pillar, and when I reached out to look around the pillar, I could see his head. I think we just missed seeing one another.”
He considered grabbing the barrel of the gunman’s Winchester rifle, which poked out. Then Vickers saw four officers advancing along the area and gestured to them, showing them the shooter’s position.
When the terrorist fired at the approaching officers, Vickers dove through the air—yes, he literally dove through the air between the gunman and the officers—and shot the gunman at the same time. John Wick would have been proud!
The gunman made a terrible, loud sound “Ugggh!” when hit as Vickers landed hard on his backside directly below the terrorists’ feet. Vickers kept shooting until the terrorist fell dead right beside him on the floor.
Vickers is a Saint for the Season.

🔥 FACTS STRANGER THAN FICTION 🔥
One of the main plotlines in Takedown focuses on a Russian billionaire living in Amsterdam. That part of the book was inspired by a real story I read about a Russian billionaire who bought a mansion near the same park where I set the opening scenes of Takedown.
The billionaire’s story, though, has a very interesting twist. In October 2022, the Russian billionaire was placed on a European Union sanctions list and couldn't travel to the Netherlands, and his properties were frozen. That news encouraged a group of Dutch squatters to take over the billionaires’ villa and make it their own home.
Don’t ask me how property rights work in the Netherlands, but initially even two courts ruled in their favor. However, when the billionaire was taken off the sanctions list, the squatters were finally forced out, after leaving behind, as expected, a real mess and considerably damaging the property. That's when facts are stranger than fiction!
