A Song for Issy Bradley

PictureCarys Bray

Hutchinson

[Borrowed hardcover]

Brilliant ending. This is one of those books where I felt compassion and love for all the characters, but couldn't find myself to like them. The story is excellent and so very sad with many beautiful subplots. The subject of Mormonism was both fascinating and delicately handled. Sometimes the book was written with the forced prose of a first novel, but this was quickly lost in the richness of the characters. And again there was that ending that led me searching for more chapters and scamping to Goodreads to see what other people thought.

Excellent read

The Kiwi Diary 2016

PictureFreda Wells (editor)

Fantastic, I really really enjoy reading the Kiwi Diary. Everything in them is worth its read. This time I also tried one of the recipes and it was absolutely delicious. It is sad that Kiwi Diary does not use Māori letters for the days of the week. This effectively means that every day in the calendar is spelt incorrectly.

Conflict of interest; one of my poems is in this diary

Going South

PictureColin Hogg

HarperCollins

[Paperback]

A soon to be old man having a wee ramble about his soon to be dead friend whilst exploring the geographies and emotions of their southern New Zealand histories. An excellent little read about very little and yet quite a lot.

Prize of My Heart

PictureLisa Norato

Bethany House Publishers

[Free eBook]

Started like a first novel with some overly flowery writing and finished like a feel good pull-em-up-by-thy-boot-straps American film. In between was a well crafted page-turning story. I really enjoyed the book. Lisa Norato is probably someone to watch out for.

[Secondhand paperback]

Yeah a good read, but not the exciting finale cliffhanger that I was expecting. All my favourite characters were there doing a the usual stuff. Worth the read, but not the best of Rankin

Umm definitely not my favourite of Derek's books. I think I spent to much time bogged down on individual words and bible verses. It was worth its read and did deepen my understanding of Luke and Acts

Fantastic and exciting book. I loved the clear hermeneutical principles in it. This book has deepened both my understanding of scripture and my ability to actually teach it. Excellent and freeing book that is well worth the read.

Old Testament Survey

PictureThe Message, Form, and Background of the Old Testament.
Second Edition

William Sanford Lasor
David Allan Hubbard
Frederic William Bush

William B Eerdmans Publishing Company

[Kindle Edition]

Intensely boring and intensely interesting. I have only read Chapters 16, 18-23 & 27. The book appears to be very detailed and for those who want to do an in-depth Old Testament study an excellent read.

3/5 Chapters 12-15, 31, 41, 42, 43, 44, 49 & 50

For me this is a heavy book. It is also valuable and enlightening resource. I am very thankful every-time I delve into it, but still do not necessarily find it easy.
