Book Signing Follow-Up

Yesterday, Sunday, June 11th, I completed another successful book signing of my historical novels from The Sign of the Eagle trilogy at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Spokane Valley, Washington. Met lots of interesting people from as far away as Alberta Province, Canada and even further away, from Southern France. Handed out lots of flyers and sold many books. There are no long lines waiting for me, these are strictly meet and greet events, but most of the time, it works for me. This store is located next to Interstate 90, so it receives a lot of business from out of town.
I want to thank store manager, Leslie, weekend managers, Bryan and Kelsey, associates, Elaine and Molly, and the rest of the B&N staff who contributed to this successful event.

Next Saturday I will be signing at Barnes & Noble, Columbia Center, Kennewick, Washington. More details later.

Book Signing Follow-Up

Book signing success. The signings of my historical novels, THE SIGN OF THE EAGLE TRILOGY at Yoke's Fresh Market, Liberty Lake and Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Norhtown Mall, Spokane, Washington, were a success. I handed out nearly all my flyer packets; talked to people as far away as Missouri and Montana and as close as one block from where I live; and sold lots of books.

I want to thank Yoke's Manager, Dan Dicicco and his associates; B&N Manager, Kelly, Assistant Managers, Hilde & Owen, and associates for their assistance in making these successful events. Again, I have been asked by both managers to return for encores. I will do so, when my next historical, THE BROKEN LANCE, is released after July 11th.

Pre-publication Book Review - The Broken Lance

Below is the first pre-publication book review of my historical, THE BROKEN LANCE, which will be released by Sunbury Press (www.sunburypress.com) by author Janet Morris. She is an outstanding historical novelist in her own right, her books selling more than one and one-half million copies, e.g. I, The Sun, The Sacred Band, etc.

Book Review - The Broken Lance
by Janet Morris

On the last page of the Broken Lance by Jess Steven Hughes, the legend reads: To Be Continued. When you reach that point, you'll be thrilled and relieved that another volume is coming. Hughes, whose Celtic Britain historical have everything a man or woman could want: love, hate, revenge betrayal, and apthos. This book is staggering good, as historicals go. You fall asleep holding it; you awake thinking about it. Your normal life fades to a pale shadow of the world Hughes creates. If you've read "The Sign of the Eagle, or the two-volume World of Britannia, I don't need to say more. If you haven't yet read Hughes, what are you waiting for? Start here, and have your faith in the novel restored.
No part of this book lags; it grabs you by the throat, with women as compelling as the men. He brings politics at their worst to life, and teaches you why things were the way they were then.
So, without giving away the story, I must tell you that if are man, woman, boy, girl, searching adventure and a better understanding of human nature, The Broken Lance is your book. Once you've read it, you'll go looking for the previous volumes in this series, wondering how you could have missed these stories. And you'll read the Broken Lance and its precursors more than once, for the sheer pleasure of it. I said of a previous volume, Hughes is an American Ecco, writing for his time. His background as a Marine, a horseman, a police detective, all enhance his stories.
SO, if you love historical adventure, heroes of both sexes, and a story to make you think differently about modern life, here it is. Grab it and run -- and get it autographed if you can. - Janet Morris

To say the least, weekend managers, Kelsey and Meera were very pleased with my efforts.

I want to thank store Manager, Leslie, weekend managers, Kelsey and Meera, and associates, Kasey and Cristy for their assistance in making this another successful event. I will be returning to this store for another encore Sunday, June 11th

Book Signing Follow-Up

Book Signing Success, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Northtown Mall, Spokane, Washington, Saturday, April 22nd.

Despite the big Earth Day turnout in downtown Spokane (It was huge and I probably would not have conducted a signing if I had known about it) and the big Crimson & Gray football game played by Washington State University nearby, I still experienced a very good turnout for my signing of THE SIGN OF THE EAGLE TRILOGY. Met lots of people from all over the Inland Northwest, handed out many flyers and signed books (I sold out all copies of THE WOLF OF BRITANNIA, PART I).

I want to thank store manager, Kelly, Assistant manager, Hilde, and associate, Danni, for their assistance in making this another successful event.

Book Signing Follow-Up

Book signing follow-up. I conducted another successful book signing event at Barnes & Noble, Spokane Valley, Washington, this weekend. As always met lots of interesting people from all over the region, including visitors from Seattle, Idaho, Montana and Oregon.

I also conducted a book signing @ Yoke's Fresh Market, Liberty Lake, Washington, Friday, April 7th. That was just so-so in my expectation, however, the store manager, Dan, was happy. He said, "I want you back next month, you're good for our store." I will discuss details further with him tomorrow (Tuesday).
I want to thank B&N store manager, Leslie; Assistant managers, Kelsey and Ameera; and associates Molly and Bryan for their assistance in making this a successful event. I thank Yoke's store manager, Dan, for his continued support.

Next signing: Barnes & Noble, Northtown Mall, Spokane, Washington, Saturday, April 22nd.

The Broken Lance - Update

This afternoon I finished reviewing and making all the necessary changes to the galleys of my historical, THE BROKEN LANCE, I had received from editor at Sunbury Press (www.sunburypress.com). This included adding three new chapters and splitting in half another one. Fortunately, these were three chapters I had originally cut from the story during the first draft sometime back, I had deleted the electronic copies but kept hard copies, a good thing. When I am writing, I don't throw anything away. Although I had to manually add them back to the story with some changes, at least I didn't have to start from scratch. I emailed the galleys to the editor minutes ago. My mind feels like jelly, and I am taking the rest of the day off. I will probably watch the Seattle Mariners game on TV tonight even though they have lost the first two games of the season. It doesn't matter. I am finished until I receive another edit from her, hopefully, the last one. They want to get my manuscript out to book reviewers by May. Wish me good luck.

Book Signing Follow-Up

Book signing a near sell-out! I want to thank everyone for your kind remarks about my book signing at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Blossom Hill, San Jose, California, March 18th & 19th. I met a lot of interesting people, from all over the west coast, passed out all my flyers and sold nearly all the three novels from the SIGN OF THE EAGLE trilogy. Again, management was very pleased and the assistant manager, the events manager and merchandise manager all asked me when I would return for another signing. I told them in the Fall when my next historical, THE BROKEN LANCE had been released. I want to thank assistant manager, Ally, and above managers, Chelsea and Jonathan for their help in making this event an unqualified success.
