OMG – I Was Nominated for a RITA Celebration – Roni Loren
Friends – things are super crazy in the Covington house as I prepare to head to San Diego in a couple of weeks for the Romance Writers of America conference and the glitzy gala for the RITA awards. In case you didn’t know, the RITA’s are like the Oscars – but for romance writing – and I’m still pinching myself that I got the call and that my book, ONE LITTLE KISS, was nominated in best novella category.
That calls for a celebration . . . right? I thought so too.
So, for the next two weeks I’m going to feature one of my fellow nominees and give away their nominated book. And one very lucky reader will win a $25 Amazon GC!
And the first of my fellow nominees is the amazing RONI LOREN – author of the nominated novella, NICE GIRLS DON’T RIDE.
Give us your “call” story. Where were you when you got the RITA call?
I was sitting at my desk, trying to focus on work even though I knew it was RITA call day. When my phone rang, I jumped, but then I saw the number was from Louisiana and deflated a little. I’m from New Orleans originally. So I figured it was some random friend or family member calling. But when I picked up it was the lovely Farrah Rochon, who told me my book Break Me Down was a finalist in the erotic romance category. And she was so nice and I was so excited. And then about two minutes into the call, she was like, “Oh! You’re nominated for another book too. I forgot to tell you that!.” Lol. So then she told me that Nice Girls Don’t Ride was nominated in the novella category. Bonus! : )
Everyone has a gateway romance novel that turned them into a diehard fan – what was your book and when did you first read it?
What turned me on to romance wasn’t actually a romance. I actually read more horror as a kid since I grew up in the days of R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike. Teen horror was a thing in the 80s-90s. But in ninth grade, I picked up my mom’s copy of Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews. It was horror first and foremost, but the series was so dramatic and had all this forbidden love in it. It was also the first series where I’d read a love scene. I remember thinking, “They can write this in books?!” My innocent, Catholic schoolgirl mind was well and truly shocked. And of course, I was hooked after that, lol. I started reading romantic suspense since that’s what my mom read and it was easy to borrow: Sandra Brown, Linda Howard, Erica Spindler. I really didn’t make my way to contemporary romance (or historical or erotic) until adulthood.
What book are you working on right now?
Right now I’m working on By the Hour, book 2 in my Pleasure Principle series (erotic romance.)
Tell us about your nominated novella!
Nice Girls Don’t Ride was such a fun story to write. I wrote it in between all of my contracted books, so it was fun diversion type book. I wanted to write a “nice” biker. I love a good biker romance but the guys are always so Sons of Anarchy dangerous. I wanted to write the hot guy with some edge but who is genuinely a nice guy. So in the story, he helps my heroine when she’s stranded on the side of the road after her boyfriend lets her down. She pre-judges the hero (and he helps with that image), but soon they are spending an all-nighter together with just the two of them, his bike, and Austin, TX at their fingertips. I loved the idea of one magical night that you don’t want to end and how that one night can change the entire trajectory of your life.

WHAT I LOVE WEDNESDAY!!
Friends – So this week has been nuts with Girl Scouts, the day job and life in general. But we’ve had a few 70 degree days in a row and I can feel summer on my heels . . . I cannot wait! But in the meantime, here’s what I’ve been loving this week.
The search for my RITA dress. I am not a girly girl and iI have zero reasons to wear formal dresses but the awards ceremony requires a fancy schmancy dress. I’ve been looking and these two are on the short list. what do you think?
2. Please Like Me. I discovered this show on Hulu and it is absolutely cringe-worthy and adorable at the same time. I spend half of the show with my face covering my hands and peeking through my fingers saying “no. no. no.” over and over.
3. FIRST AND FIRST. This amazing book came out yesterday and I cannot rave about it enough. The entire series is phenomenal and I devoured each and every one. When Santino offered me an early copy, I think my reply of “yes” broke the sound barrier. You can buy the book everywhere, here: http://santinohassell.com
What did you love this week?

WHAT I LOVE WEDNESDAY!!
Hey friends! It’s been a crazy week and so exciting!!!! So …what did I love?
I’m a RITA® Finalist! The Romance Writers of America have their annual awards (its the Oscars of
romance writing) and they named the nominees on Friday and ONE LITLE KISS is a nominee in the romance novella category. I cannot even say how excited I am . . . so now the search begins for the perfect dress to wear for the red carpet ceremony.
2. Cole and Jae 4-ever!! Don’t you love/hate it when a favorite series comes to an end? I am in absolute love with the Dirty series by Rhys Ford and she just released DIRTY HEART – the final book – and it was everything I hoped for. I laughed and cried and fanned myself when my boys hit the sheets. Thank you Rhys!!! xxxx
That’s it for this week!

WHAT I LOVE WEDNESDAY!
Hi Friends! I’m back for another “what I love” post. This is where I focus on what made me smile in the past week and ignore anything that didn’t.
Writer Goal Stickers from Sparklepop papers. You may know that I’m a planner junkie
(#erincondrenrocks) and I am always excited to find colorful and fun stickers to help me organize my day. I found these on Etsy and fell in love. They are a download so I can print them as many times as need and cut them out. I looooove that. They are also fun and bright and I smile when I see them. You can buy these or the many others that Jessica Wilkerson offers here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/SparklepopPaper
Crosstown Crush by Cara McKenna. This erotic romance might not be everyone’s cup of tea but I could not put it down. As always with a Cara McKenna book, its smart and deep and pulls at heart strings I didn’t know I had and it stayed with me for days. A loving married couple who explores the husband’s kink with a stranger from across town and the consequences when actual hearts get involved. 5 stars in every way. It’s on my list of best reads for the year. You can find out more about it on Cara’s website: http://www.caramckenna.com/books/crosstown-crush/
#LISTIFY LIFE. I am very lucky to belong to a group of publishing pals who are also obsessed with paper planning and organizing. What started as an Etsy support group (LOL) has become a group of women who support each other as we plan and achieve our goals. Led by Roni Loren, we are beginning a Listify Life Challenge. It starts next week and every week has a theme (see the cool graphic) and you use the hashtag #listifylife on your favorite social network. You write down your short list in line with the theme and post – its a fun way to celebrate our daily lives, document your year and have fun. Please join us!
That’s it for this week. I hope you find great books, great love and great adventure!
