Hello Spiritual Warriors!!! And welcome to another week of life tools. This week we celebrate the American Buddhist nun Pema Chodron who teaches at the Gampo Abbey in Nova Scotia, Canada. She is the author of the classic When Things Fall Apart and the magnificent life guide Comfortable with Uncertainty. And, her teachings are core to my Masters of Wisdom & Meditation Teacher Training, which I hold twice a year (16 weeks online and then a week right here with me at the Meditation Nest in the SweetSpot of the universe).

Pema Chodron teaches that we can use our difficulties and problems to awaken our hearts; that this moment is the perfect teacher; and that when you feel like running, instead lean into the pain, the hurt, or the discomfort. She is a powerful teacher of heart-based living and one of her core teachings is that true compassion does not come from wanting to help out those less fortunate than ourselves but from realizing our kinship with all beings – our one-ness.


She advises that before we take on the suffering of others, we develop compassion for our own wounds. That can be difficult for some of us as we run around serving everyone else in the world and forgetting about our own emotional wellbeing. But, it is our unconditional compassion for ourselves that leads naturally to unconditional compassion for others. And, if we are willing to stand fully in our own shoes and never give up on ourselves, then we will be able to put ourselves in the shoes of others and never give up on them.

This week, I invite you to forgive yourself for one mistake you’ve made this year and treat yourself gently about it. Feel free to choose a big or a little “mistake”; just choose one thing you have been beating yourself up over and act kindly to yourself about it. Can you do that? Can you love yourself just a little bit more? (don’t worry – it’s just a little bit) Can you forgive yourself? (finally) Can you give yourself a second chance? Or third? (just one more time). Don’t do this alone. Forward this email to anyone you know in emotional pain and watch the impact of your compassion ripple out into the world.


After you’ve read this, sit with your fear, disappointment, embarrassment, irritation, resentment, anger, or jealousy – own it. Sit with your sadness and feel it. Allow your feelings to become so deep that they pierce your heart. A magnificent experience will unfold. You will die to the past. You will step into the now. Your love will become true. Your heart will expand as will your ability to have compassion for yourself. I know…easier said than done. But if we take the time to just allow one emotion to ripple into our heart, a powerful cleansing will occur. Be gentle. Be loving. Be forgiving. Keep it real, keep rippling, and keep meditating. Let’s Make Some Agreements

Hello Spiritual Warriors! And welcome to September!!!!! And another week of Life Tools.


The Four Agreements, by don Miguel Ruiz, shares four simple truths to commit to and practice to create more love and happiness in your life. The process is transformational – ultimately evolving the way we think!!

The Four Agreements are:

1. Be impeccable with your word

2. Don’t take anything personally

3. Don’t make assumptions

4. Always do your best


These four simple agreements are powerful change agents and require diligence in the early days of the practice. Sometimes it’s really tough because you feel like you’re going against everything you’ve ever been taught…but the results happen quickly and powerful shifts begin in your life at a rapid pace.


Through years of conditioning, we often fail to see the nuances in the evolution of the ways we express ourselves. Our words…our speech…our emotions…our physical body…our voice…our tone…even our attitude is so often automatic, habitual, knee jerk – we are blind to being the person that everyone else experiences; but as they react to that being, and we react to them, we refine our agreements a bit more tightly. Do you see that this can be a path to inner constriction and UN-conscious behaviors?


Over the years our mind has filled with beliefs that generate a running parade of thoughts. In all that thinking there are many assumptions that we are not aware of. We even make the assumption that what we think is true. We imagine and assume we know what others think of us and how they will react. We also assume that the judgments and self-criticisms we have are true. We have learned to make so many assumptions that we aren’t aware of. These assumptions are not the truth. These assumptions and the faith we express in them is just one way that we are not impeccable with our word.


Through our own personal domestication we have learned to take things personally. We assume that other people’s opinions about us are valid and when those opinions don’t agree with ours, we choose to dislike that person, second guess ourselves, or change OUR own opinion. Their opinion becomes our belief about our self. We end up having an emotional reaction to our own belief because we assumed their opinion is true. We can also take our own opinions personally. Our own self-judgments are also simply assumptions. Even though we have made them up and they are not necessarily true, we make assumptions and take them personally.

This week on Hay House Radio, I invite you to join in me in creating an opening within us to allow these new agreements to flow freely. Bean by bean the bag gets filled; so why not make a commitment this month to practice one of the Four Agreements each week; and if you are gentle and consistent, your life will unfold with greater grace and greater ease. One agreement each week – don’t reach for more. See if you can bring single pointed intention to your personal evolution.

Relationship Reboot

Hello Spiritual Warriors! And welcome to another week of growth & transformation. This week, our Life Tool is exploring your life through one of the five realms – specifically, the realm of RELATIONSHIPS.

The deepest relationship we have is with ourselves. How do you treat yourself? Is it with compassion, acceptance, & forgiveness? Is it with love & understanding? We know that you are your harshest critic – but are you also your greatest champion?


This week, let’s give ourselves permission to nourish the YOU inside yourself. We can start by looking at one other relationship in your life – a relationship that takes up space in your mind, consumes your thoughts, or relentlessly occupies your time. We let people into our heads that we would never invite into our homes – so let’s transform that relationship right now, and take a powerful first step to loving yourself a bit more.


There are four things you can do with a relationship. You can:


Birth it – start anew…fresh…unfettered… unconditioned… as we were born – whole, perfect, pure, and unconditioned, and then let it unfold.


Repair it – ask first, “Do I want to keep this relationship alive?” If yes…then let go of the past, and commit to soothing the wounds, let go of grievances, forgive, forgive, forgive – forgive yourself, forgive the other, make peace.


Shift it – the old way didn’t work, there are boundaries that have been violated – new boundaries, new understandings…new rules of engagement must be established, articulated, and agreed upon — and committed to by both parties — if that can not be agreed upon…

End it – cut the cord, say goodbye, every day release one more piece of the relationship… TRULY let it go…when you think you have let it go, let more go…journal, share, charge a rock with your emotional pain and throw it into the ocean…write down your grievances and burn them in a ceremonial fire. Release…release…release.


So let’s make this week one of clarity, grace, and ease, as we take a step toward transformation… one relationship at a time and watch the new you unfold.

Reboot Abundance

Hello spiritual warriors!! It’s time for abundance! Let’s get ready to bring more abundance into our lives.


Let’s start by witnessing our breathing. Feel your breath flow into your nostrils and move into your throat and then into your belly as your lungs fill with air.


Hold this breath in for a few moments and then let go…as if you were letting go of a balloon filled with helium.

Now as you slowly inhale again, think of all the things in your life that limit you (you may think it’s a person but rather than making it a person’s name, think of it as your current relationship with that person or something one of you is holding onto).


And it’s important to remember that the things in your life that limit you are all self-imposed, all self-created, all self-directed.


We get the choice to bring our attention to different things in our world – people, jobs, conversations, money, relatives, relationships — these are all forms of energy. We move our energy, our attention, our awareness to these things and they blossom and bloom – they get larger, consuming, and omnipresent until they weave themselves into every fiber of your being.


Not opening yourself to more possibilities in every moment…is a sign of constriction, of fear, of lack, of not enough. Not seeing all that life has to offer in each moment narrows our view until we can only see what we already know – we need to move beyond our blind spots into expanded awareness.

If we look to our most genuine Self – the self that rests beneath all of this, we know that we are pure and perfect and whole and full – yes…we are abundant. So where does the confusion come in? Why do we sometimes feel a lack inside when we are actually so full at our core? Why would we feel we are less than, when we have so much to be grateful for?


Right now think of just three things you are grateful for:


It can be as innocent as a relationship, a smile, a health-related issue, something that occurred that you requested, something that happened and took you by surprise, a conversation, a hug, the result of your hard work, or the result of you surrendering…


Keep those three things you are grateful for in your awareness right now. Allow them to block out any other thought.


Now take a deep breath in – and breathe in gratitude; exhale constriction,


Breathe in power; exhale fear,


Breathe in where you are in this moment; exhale where you were,


Breathe in love; exhale loneliness,


Breathe in stillness; breathe out conditioning,


Breathe in silence; exhale chatter,


Breathe in certainty; breathe out doubt,


Breathe in comfort; breathe out pain,


Breathe in abundance; exhale poverty consciousness


Breathe in abundance; and release constriction,


Breathe in abundance; and let go of attachment,


Now just breathe…and witness your breath.


Throughout the day, when you are feeling less than or not in celebration mode…STOP, breathe deep and feel the abundance that flows through you; feel the expansion that grows beyond your constrictions; recognize you are abundant in every moment.
