Darkness, Kindled (Fire Spirits #4) Book Review

My Rating- 4 STARS
Synopsis- Ari chose to be a Guild Hunter. She wanted to hunt dangerous Jinn and destroy them before they could harm innocent people. But now that Ari is a member of The Guild, she finds herself in the impossible position of hunting her ex-best
friend – human-turned-dangerous sorcerer, Charlie Creagh. As Ari struggles to come to terms with her duty, an ancient Jinn and his companion want revenge on her for using the command of the Seal against them; the White King refuses to give up on his quest to resurrect Lilif, and Asmodeus isn’t done toying with
her.
When Ari can take no more, rushing to the Sultan Azazil’s side to demand of him the favor he owes her, the events she sets in motion will not only alter everyone’s lives, it will kindle a darkness that will shake the realms to their very core.
My Review- Prior to reading the last installment of Samantha Young's Fire Spirits series, I re-read the first books. It reminded me just how fantastic the books are; the feelings, the romance and the fantasy
driven plot. The whole series is extremely well written and planned out with twists and turns, ups and downs, love and action in perfect amounts. The reader can never become desensitised, there is just enough of everything. Samantha Young has weaved a gripping tale from Smokeless Fire to Darkness, Kindled full of astounding beauty, heartache and love. The depth of the characters pulls the reader in and holds them to the very last word of the last novel, and even then I am begging for another book!! I love Ari amd Jai that much!
While Darkness, Kindled is not my favourite book in the entire series (Smokeless Fire for me) it was a great read. It had just enough angst to Ari and Jai's relationship to keep it interesting, but not so much that I rolled my eyes. They were believeable as a couple! There is a deep truth to their love and despite all the paranormal goings on around them they deal with 'first love' issues; uncertainty, trust, trying not to hurt each other, making mistakes. It was great watching Jai transform from powerful, stoic guardian to loved up, jealous passionate lover!
Ari is one of my favourite protagonists. She might come across as a childish teenager every so often(who doesnt?) but she is strong, knows her own mind and will stop at nothing to protect those she loves, even if it means risking her own life. In Darkness, Kindled she becomes powerful, confident and is passionate with wit and attitude. The best thing about Ari and what Samantha Young has done with her character, is that falling in love did not make her some weak willed, whining child. She refuses to let Jai boss her around or make choices for her. They are argumentative, hot headed and above all else they 'balance' each other.
Each and every character is important from Trey to Charlie to Fallon and the others. They all add to the Plot, they all have something to offer and some issue to solve. They make the story even more
fun. The plot in this series is deep, fun and twisted.
I will miss these characters deeply. I think this series will stay in my mind for a very long time and it is one I will re-read often. Darkness, Kindled was a great, perfect, traumatic and emotion filled finale to a series. If they ever get made in to films, I will love them too.
Fantastic Job!!! I want MORE!!!

Daughter of Mythos Book Review

My Rating- 5 STARS
Synopsis- Fifteen-year-old Nora Salvatore thinks wizards, fairies, dragons, and demons are the stuff of myth, but she is wrong. Nora is thrown head first into a life of magic and chaos after learning of a mysterious legend surrounding her birth and the magical powers she is supposed to possess. When an army of demons from a parallel world plans the eradication of mankind, only she can close the portals and keep the demons at bay. Can she learn to harness her new-found powers in time to stop them?
My Review- Nora Salvatore believes she is a regular
child who has found herself in the fostering system since the death of her mother and a father who is not in the picture. Unfortunately for her, with every family she is placed with, unexplained things keep happening. Rooms are smashed up when she is no where nearby yet she is blamed for it. She bounces from family to family until her case worker finally brings her to Jocelyn Blancgard and her husband, Kasen. We soon come to realise not all is normal and that they are actually magical beings belonging to a world called Mythos and they believe that Nora is the long awaited Daughter of Mythos, one with the power to close the portals that demons and other creatures use to come to Earth.
This book is jam-packed full of adventure, magic, mythical creatures and lore. Its easy reading, light on angst and full of humourous moments between Nora and Zane, a boy who vows to protect her with his life. He is tortured by his past but incredibly strong and kind and will do anything for Nora, even die for her. Triston is a breath of fresh air and relieves the tension when the story becomes action packed!
The characters are well written and develop over time, the light romance thats runs through the book is heartfelt and more a 'true' depiction of first love during the early teen stage. There was no insta-love, which was fantastic. I love how Zane and Nora grow to like each other.
This was a incredible debut novel and I will look forward to reading more by Melissa Blake!

Opening Chapter of my WIP: Myst of Aria
This is the finalized and edited opening chapter of my book Myst of Aria, the first novel in an epic-fantasy trilogy I am currently working on! I really hope you like it and would appreciate any comments/opinions. ENJOY!
Wrapped from head to toe, he became a shadow, showing only his shimmering storm-grey eyes, flashing every time a crack of lightening ravaged the grim sky. His skin ran pale, almost as grey as his irises, visible in the narrow strip of his dark mask. He pulled his black cloak tight across a lean, muscled body, stopping it from flapping wildly in the wind and lowered his hood against the storm.
He could smell the rotting odour of decomposing bodies and old sweat. Unwashed bodies had a sickeningly sweet smell that hung on the air, invaded the nostrils and seemed to seep in to his very pores. It was a smell he had become accustomed to over the passing months and, in truth, in all his years living in Aria it was not the worst smell he had come across.
The darkly clad man lowered in to a crouch and moved in a predatory crawl to the edge of the steep hillside. Armoured demons thundered far below him on a beaten trail leading away from the town of Dirra in to The Plains. A town, he thought coldly, they had devastated and destroyed. He had watched them burn poorly made huts with flickering torches, forcing families out on to the streets where they were cut down with no remorse. The men were slaughtered, children torn apart, the women raped and tortured and slain. The bloodbath had not lasted long. No more than a few hours. From bloodcurdling screams to heavy silence.
He knew none had been left alive, there was no need to search Dirra for survivors, but he would wait until the armoured demons were a safe distance away and do what was required of him.
Keeping to the shadows, the dark man walked steadily down the hill and disappeared through the smoke and fire. He checked every house, every throat of every corpse still intact, even some that were not. Once satisfied none had survived to tell the grisly tale he moved fast to pick up the stinking trail of the deformed monsters.
The demons had already destroyed Meresa and Throm, and before them they had slaughtered the people of Corus and Midere. Soon all the border towns would be nothing but blackened, poisoned land. The demons would make their way to the Citadel of Morenna and the Humans, as diminished as they were, would fall.
The demons were easy to find. The odour they left in their wake could be smelled for miles. The dark man followed them to a camp where they were resting after battle, where they feasted on the limbs of men. He watched as one tore the fingers from a hand it had brought with it from the slaughters. Blood spurted in a bright red stream across its face and a forked tongue greedily flicked out to lap it up, not wasting a single drop.
Disgusted, he turned away and found a place nearby to wait. He was not allowed to end their pitiful lives, and nor did he care to expend the effort to do so. He would follow his orders, and that was all. He would watch and wait until he found survivors. That was his only mission.
Finding a damp patch of grass beneath a shelter of fallen rocks, he rested, sighing at his seemingly meaningless task. In the three seasons he had been following the beasts they had left none alive. They were careful, thorough, and lusted for the slaughter.
Sighing once more, he stared up at the roiling sky. Watching the way the lightening travelled across the purple-blue clouds, brightening the land in rapid bursts, and then leaving it in murky darkness. He longed to follow the storm, to chase the wind wherever it may lead. He wished for it to take him far
from this poor, barren land. To a place where there were lush green forests, the hum of animal life and the silken skin of women. Elf women. He preferred their willowy bodies, rich scented hair and strange coloured eyes, but in this moment he would settle for a hardened Tiberian woman, or a brash speaking Alac-Narian. Any woman to love for a few hours, to pass away the long, dark nights.
The dark man closed his eyes and filled his mind with memories of the many women he had lain with over the years. He breathed in the spices of perfume and soap, remembered the feel of satin clothes falling to the floor. He was so immersed in his dream he nearly missed the delicate thud outside his shelter. Most would not have heard it.
He did not stir. This was a sound familiar to him and he felt a small, uncommon smile twitch at the corners of his lips.
“One day I will care enough to ask how you always seem to find me, Nikira,” he said. His voice was soft, with only a slight growl at the edge of his words. “Come. Stay here with me. The night is much too cold for you to be running around alone.”

Angelstone (Dark Stone #2) Book Review

My Rating- 5 STARS
Synopsis- After escaping from the Hollows and the Michaelea lightwarriors, Jordan takes Alyx and Israel to Aradale, a secret Rogue community, where they appear to be safe − for now. But did they bring the enemy with them? “Mini”, the strange and speechless young girl they rescued from the Hollows, is not as she seems. Why was Elder Michael keeping her locked up? What is she hiding?
Alyx and Israel are driven further apart as Israel continues to obsess over making Adere human and Alyx hides two secrets from him: that he may be part-demon and that she may be carrying his child, a tri-blood keye that can be used to unlock Hell.
Out in the mortal cities, pieces of Black Stone, the only material that can disrupt the angels’ healing
abilities, continue to be stolen to make weapons for Samyara’s dark army. Alyx and her friends must stop them, but this means infiltrating holy and guarded places to steal the Black Stone − a monastery in remote China, a mosque in Saudi Arabia, an art gallery in Florence and a cathedral in Peru. Can they win this deadly race against the Darkened?
My Review- WOW...just...really...just wow. Speechless. I hated that it had to end. My eyes kept flicking down to the percentage number with a sinking heart knowing that the book was coming to an
end!
Alyx...she is just the most wonderful character written since Clary/Tessa by Cassandra Clare. She is brave, emotional, passionate, strong, caring and loving. She makes mistakes, she fights to put them right. She loves someone, she does it with all her heart. She cares for someone, she will protect
them until her last breath! She is loyal to her friends, fierce in battle and despite being a supernatural warrior, she is still a woman who can get jealous when other women go near her man.
Israel...is it possible to love him and hate him at the very same time? He is sexy and insecure about his masculinity. He struggles with Alyx's need to protect him all the time. It makes him feel less of a man and he longs to prove to her that he can take care of himself, that he can protect her as she protects him. Only, unfortunately for Israel, he makes terrible decisions, all out of passion and the need to prove himself.
The thing I love most about the love story in this book is that the romance between Alyx and Israel is full of mistakes and fights that they work through. No matter what separates them, they take the time to understand each other and forgive each other. While their romance is important, the events
playing out around them are serious and they understand that saving the world is far more important than their love life, which is refreshing to read.
And my GOD! Hanna Peach knows how to leave you wanting more at the end of the book! She leaves you in suspense and still thinking about what you have just read. I read this book for so long that I ended up dreaming about the characters. Full scenes played out in my head. It takes real talent to do that to a reader and Peach definitely has skill.
I really can't wait for the third book!

Ember (Death Collectors #1) Book Review

My Rating- 4 STARS
Synopsis- For nineteen-year-old Ember, life has always been about death. With a simple touch, she can see when someone will die. It’s her curse and the reason she secludes herself from the world. The only person that knows her secret is her best friend Raven.
But that changes when she meets Asher Morgan. He’s
gorgeous and mysterious and is the only person Ember can't sense death from. The silence he instills in her mind and body allows her to feel things she’s never been able to before, so despite her initial reservations, Ember lets Asher into her life and lets herself to get close to him. But the closer they get, the more Ember realizes that Asher is keeping secrets from her.
When unexplained deaths begin to surface in her town, Ember questions why she can’t see Asher's
death and what it is he’s hiding from her.
My Review- A good book by Jessica Sorensen.
I have a read a good few books by this author and have become a fan, though unlike her other books, this one took me a while to get in to. I was worried I wouldn't like it until I hit about 30%, where it grabbed my attention and I began to really like the story. Ember was a fun character to read and I look forward to seeing what happens to her and her romantic interests in Book 2.
The steamy scenes were very well written! Just enough to tease, but not so detailed or so often that it became a hardcore erotic. The story of Grim Reapers and Angels of Death had me hooked. I have never, ever read a book about Grim Angels before (a hybrid breed of Grim Reapers and Angels) and it was nice to find a unique book with a big twist on the angel theme.
Both Cameron and Asher were great characters and left me guessing until the end as to which one was evil. Only, you never truly know even at the end. The one believed to be the bad guy has done great (if twisted) things because of his love for Ember. The one we come to know as being the good guy has done some very questionable things because of HIS love for Ember. I loved the ending and look forward to finding out what happens between Ember, Asher and Cameron!!

Tatterdemon Book Review

My Rating- 4 STARS
Synopsis- In 1691 the town of Crossfall taught the witch Thessaly how to die. They beat her, they shot her, they hung her - but nothing worked. When they finally tried to bury her alive Thessaly set the field against them. The first man died as a gust of wind harrowed the meat from his bones. A root, flung like a dirty javelin, cut a second man down. Many more deaths followed. The Preacher Fell impaled the witch upon her very own broom but she dragged him down into the field to wait for three more centuries.
Three hundred years later Maddy Harker will murder her
bullying husband Vic. She will bury him in the field as she buried her abusive father years before that. The very same field where the revenant spirit of Thessaly Cross lies waiting. In three days Vic will rise again - a thing of dirt, bone and hatred.Men will call him the Tatterdemon. And Hell- and Thessaly - will follow.
My Review- I couldn't read this book late at night!
This book kicks off with a horrific bang and fills your imagination with scenes of madness and gore. It begins with a witch, who, due to her treatment by the townsfolk of Crossfall, curses all their descendants to suffer in nasty ways. They bury her in a field after several attempts to kill her, but this witch just won't die. A few hundred years later we are introduced to these 'descendants' and all their juicy little secrets.
There is not a single person in Cressfall who I consider entirely sane. There are murdered
wife-battering husbands, dead bodies in freezers, voodoo love spells, circus freaks and a perverted mailman. Everything is going on in this small town and I pretty much loved almost all the characters.
Steve Vernon writes in a similar style to what I have seen in Stephen King novels. He tells the story
from a dozen POVs, each with their own style of talking, their own naughty secret and their own personalities. All these stories begin to blend, starting a sequence of events that triggers the curse and wakes the witch. An unsuspecting Maddy, who has lived through years of torment and pain at the hands of her husband, Vic, comes to the end of her tether and hits him and buries him in the same field as the Witch. He comes back to life as the Tatterdemon, a servant of the witch, and hopes to build himself a terrifying undead army. And that isn't all....the dead are coming back to haunt the people of Crossfall!
I really liked this book. The characters were well developed, the story is fun and scary and gory. Somewhere in the middle I did become a little desensitized to the gore, but towards the third part I quickly became freaked out again. I will look forward to reading more by this Author.

Marked (Eternal Guardian's #1) Book Review

My Rating- 5 STARS
Synopsis- THERON—Dark haired, duty bound and deceptively deadly. He’s the leader of the Argonauts, an elite group of guardians that defends the immortal realm from threats of the Underworld. From the moment he walked into the club, Casey knew this guy was different.
Men like that just didn’t exist in real life—silky shoulder-length hair, chest impossibly broad, and a predatory manner that just screamed dark and dangerous. He was looking for something. Her.
She was the one. She had the mark. Casey had to die so his kind could live, and it was Theron’s duty to bring her in. But even as a 200-year-old descendent of Hercules, he wasn’t strong enough to resist the pull in her fathomless eyes, to tear himself away from the heat of her body.
As war with the Underworld nears, someone will have to make the ultimate sacrifice.
My Review- This book was stunning! outright beautiful! The characters, the plotline, the love scenes. The Passion!! so.blooming.amazing.
I HAVE to read the other books in this series and anything else written by Elizabeth Naughton.
Casey believes she is a regular person, working 2 jobs to pay off her grandmother's hospital bills from
when she was still alive and working hard to keep afloat. Until a tall, dark and sexy demigod literally bumps in to her one night while working at Xscream, a strip club. She stumbled upon him later in the night being attacked by creatures she has no name for, she takes him home and helps clean his wounds. That night everything changed for her and this handsome Hulk. The man, Theron is a
descendent of Hercules and one of the legendary Argonauts. This book is Greek Myth come to life in the modern day.
Things get tricky between them when he realizes this girl, who he is falling for bad, may have to be sacrificed to save his people and bring about an ancient prophecy Hades has put it place. Emotions grow between them and he his torn between his duties to his people and this young, beautiful woman who seems to be his Curse. But Gods like to play their games and Hades is the best at it. His twisted sense of humour is about to throw Theron over the edge!
I have literally just finished this book and I cant stop thinking about it. The writing and pure effort and passion that has gone in to the story is obvious on every page and will take its place in my 'breathtaking' category. I lost myself in this story and read it to the early hours of the morning! I can't wait to read many, many more!

Angelfire (Dark Angel #1) Book Review

My Rating- 5 STARS
Synopsis- Alyxandria is a young warrior with a fondness for customized knives and illegal night-races. If only she could overcome the taint of her parents, who abandoned her to become Rogues. When Alyx saves Israel, a gifted mortal with a past, she is forbidden to see him again. But she can't help herself, drawn to him through their Guardian-bond, an ancient and long-forgotten bond; if he dies, she dies.
Alyx begins to dig into the Elders' secrets − two thousand years of secrets, which begin with the death of the Archangel Raphael. She is not prepared when she uncovers an Elder's dark plan. Somewhere on Earth is a key to unlock Hell. Somewhere on Earth are pieces of an amulet that control Lucifer and his army. Somehow Israel is the link and now both sides are after him. Who can Alyx trust when Good and Evil are no longer clear?
My Review- Angelfire is a truly good book by a very talented Author.
I was offered this book for review and I am so glad I have read it and fully intend to buy the rest of this series to follow Alyx, Isreal and the others on their journey. Also loving the angsty romance budding and hope there is more angst in the future.
Alyx is a Lightwarrior, not particularly gifted but an exceptional fighter. She has a troubled past, is
stubborn and kicks ass more often than not. Still, its nice to see her flaws and weaknesses. Though Alyx has a very strong 'voice' throughout Angelfire, she can be indecisive and too trusting.
Alyx has been having visions of a man who is killing Darkened (demon spirits possessing human bodies) and through this link she develops a bond, called the Guardian-Bond, a rare thing to happen and with that comes emotions and feelings she doesn't understand. The night she feels him in danger and flies to rescue him marks the night that everything in Alyx's world is turned upside down. Those she has trusted all her life have lied to her, the teachings her Leaders have taught her have been fabricated and beneath it all is an evil plot and betrayers around every corner and Alyx is at the very
centre of it. The man, Israel, she is Guardian-Bonded with is entwined with her destiny completely.
I love Alyx. She is the girl I would want to be best friends with, I would trust her with my life. She is strong and brave and fights to do what feels right. Hanna Peach has developed her so well, this delicate little warrior who is beautiful and stands tall in the middle of chaos, who is loyal and passionate about every decision she makes, who inspires others around her to be better. Israel, the man bonded to her, though a bit frustrating, is a wonderful character and he kind of reminded me of Disney's Aladdin (I am not sure why) but he lives on the streets, fends for himself, steals food to live
and, having trained in Parkour, can jump from building to building with little effort. the development of his and Alyx's relationship is refreshing. There is no insta-love, but time to understand each other, a time to let feelings grow between them.
What I really enjoyed about the book were the magical elements, the Bloodink tattoos which contain magic, and the descriptions used to help the reader visualise them as they were being used. They were unique and beautifully written.
I did worry whether I would like Angelfire for the first 10% as it is a little slow to start and many names to keep track of, but as the story progresses the reader is sucked in to a whirlwind of betrayal, lies and evil plans. The ending was a little abrupt, but it definitely makes me want to get book 2 and I cant wait to read it

Drive, Annette! Lilith shouted from deep within my head.
She took control of my body and pushed my foot hard on the accelerator. I was aware of movement, of rain battering the windows. We turned corners, heading home, but I could not keep my eyes open. Blood loss drained the already low reserves of strength I had. Lilith was wavering.
As we slipped in and out of darkness, the car careened off the road and crashed in to a telegraph pole. Metal crumpled, bending and screeching in protest. I barely registered the impact as I was thrown violently forward, the air bag exploding in to my face, crushing my nose and knocking the last of the oxygen out of my lungs. Smoke plumed from the engine as it came to a rest, silence closing in.
Annie, wake up! Lilith battered the inside of my skull. Wake up. I can’t help you like this!
My hand fell away from the stab wound above my heart, blood dripping steadily down my stomach, staining my clothes.
It’s alright, Lilith. It’s alright. I just need to sleep…just sleep a little.
ANNIE!
