“I had done an album called Coal. It was an Appalachian themed project, and it was really different than anything I had ever done. I did it because I had all this grief about a mine disaster that had happened in West Virginia,” says Kathy Mattea.

Postcard from the Shoulders of a Vampire
It is April 13th, 2011. As I stand in the bone-chilling air, I take in my surroundings. There are many people lingering about, some in groups and some alone. Storms start with wailing gusts of wind and armies of whitecaps attacking the shore as the ocean showcases its tremendous power. But tonight, the breeze dies down as the sun begins to dip, promising a windless summer evening and calm seas.
Crater Lake: Brought to You by the Color Blue
My favorite color is blue. It is the color of sunny skies, blue jays (my favorite kind of bird), blueberries, Kentucky grass, and lakes.
But if all lakes are blue, than what do I call THIS?

Postcard from Mykonos, Greece
Mykonos. The word slides off my tongue, chunky and yet smooth, like a hokey pokey ice cream. The exotic name describes the Greek island perfectly: a paradise in the middle of the Aegean Sea. Accessible only by boat and plane, Mykonos is truly the hidden gem of the Mediterranean.
