The Other Wife by Juliet Bell

The Other WifeThe Other Wife by Juliet Bell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a re-imagining of Jane Eyre set in 1980s Australia.
The focus is on the two women – Betty (who was sent to Australia on board a ship, quite possibly against her father’s wishes) and Jane (who was sent to live with an abusive aunt after her mother was arrested). Both had heartbreakingly bad childhoods which feed into who they become when they grow up.
Rochester is a weak man who has had power and responsibility thrust upon him. He c...

Book review: A Christmas Gift by Sue Moorcroft

A Christmas GiftA Christmas Gift by Sue Moorcroft
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Georgine loves her job at the local school. She has some financial worries and is being harassed by her ex.
Joe Blackthorn in many things – famous musician, rich business owner, incognito teaching assistant and once upon a time, a neglected child living below the poverty line. He has left his old life of squalor behind and is living a good life now, but Georgine is a blast from the past for him. The fact that he’s keeping his true iden...

Review: The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare

The Duchess Deal (Girl Meets Duke, #1)The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tessa Dare is a new author to me, but a lot of people I respect recommeded her on Twitter, so I thought I’d try one of hers. I loved it.
Ash is scarred and makes wise cracks to hide his pain. He needs a wife to make sure he has an heir, but he’s not expecting any woman to fall for him because he thinks he’s too scarred. His staff are fiercely loyal to him and are doing their best to get their master to fall in love. I kept thinking of Bea...

Little Haunting By the Sea by Kate Johnson

Little Haunting By The Sea: A romantic comedy, with ghosts

Little Haunting By The Sea: A romantic comedy, with ghosts by Kate Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow. This is an unusual and wonderful book.

Jen sees dead people. There’s one dead Victorian child, Alice, who is her constant (ghost) companion, but there are others whereever she goes. Her family thought she was mentally ill and took her to see various doctors and sometimes the drugs helped… but in general, she can see ghosts. She’s come to accept that.

Quinn is haunted in a different way. He...

Book review: A Bicycle Made for Two by Mary Jayne Baker

A Bicycle Made For Two (Love in the Dales #1)A Bicycle Made For Two by Mary Jayne Baker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I downloaded this book a whim because I’d met the author. I’m so glad I did. I loved it!

It’s set in a tiny village in rural Yorkshire called Egglethwaite. Lana Donati is trying to get the Grand Depart for the Tour de France to go through the village. In order to do this, she has to work with the man who broke her heart a year before.

This book made me properly laugh out loud. I spent my teens in a village in West Yorkshire, s...

Christmas At The Palace – now in paperback. With sparkles

Christmas At The Palace is out in paperback! If you see it a shop (Hopefully, you’ll spot it in Asda…) please take a photo! I’d love to see the book out in the wild.

In case you were wondering what it’s about (it’s not like I’ve been going on about it for months, right?) -A British- SriLankan doctor falls in love with a Prince, which is brilliant, until she realises that she has to give up the job that she loves. Oh, and everyone isn’t keen on someone non-white joining the royal family.  T...

Belonging – so many reviews!

Belonging went on tour with the fabulous crew from Rachel’s Random Resources. After a brilliant week, there are now lots of reviews. This book is a little darker than my usual books, so I was a bit worried about how it would be received. I needn’t have worried. Here are just some of the reviews from the tour. The words ’emotional’ and ‘heartwarming’ come up a lot:

“This is a quick read, but really packs an emotional punch.” The Book Review

“It is an emotive, contemporary family drama and rom...
