Sex Doll Gumbo
Horror Sleaze Trash proudly presents Sex Doll Gumbo, by Ryan Quinn Flanagan & Catfish McDaris. Comprising two chapbooks, Saga of Juanito and Alphabet Soup, this collection represents a dual effort from two of the most subversive voices in underground poetry today.Ryan Quinn Flanagan is a Canadian-born author who lives in Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada with his wife and many bears that rifle through his garbage. His work has been translated in Bangla, Spanish and Italian. He enjoys listening to the blues and cruising down the TransCanada in his big blacked out truck.
Catfish McDaris won the Thelonius Monk Award in 2015. He’s been active in the small press world for 30 years. He’s recently been translated into Spanish, Italian, French, Polish, Swedish, Arabic, Bengali, Mandarin, Yoruba, Tagalog, and Esperanto. His most infamous chapbook is Prying with Jack Micheline and Charles Bukowski. He’s from Albuquerque and Milwaukee.

Another year passes — my tenth on Goodreads, incidentally — and another annual wrap-up manifests itself. Best I get to it, before the night's festivities begin. I'll try to keep this one brief.
As usual, I edited the Spring, Summer, and Fall issues of HST Quarterly. I've been slacking, I'm afraid, and so the Winter issue will have to wait. I guess the nice thing about being your own boss is that there really aren't any deadlines.
Outside of publishing, this year was largely spent on the road, wintering in my van down south before heading up to Michigan for the Summer and finally returning to Utah in time for Fall. From Austin to New Orleans to Savannah, I stayed south of the Mason-Dixon for as long as I could stand it, and then, once the heat began to rise, I found my reprieve in the relative coolness of the upper Midwest. Now that I'm back on the other side of the Rockies, it's just been nice being under an actual roof for a change. Life could be worse I suppose.
Well, that's about all I really wanted to say. Here's wishing you all a Happy New Year!

A truly wild year for me, spent mostly in nomadic form. More on that below.
But first, publishing:
As usual, I edited the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter issues of HST Quarterly. Hard to believe this has been going on 5, soon to be 6 years now already!
Besides that, I didn't publish much this past year, with sole exception of Quicksand Highway, the long-awaited follow-up to Judge Santiago Burdon's excellent Stray Dogs and Deuces Wild.
Back in April, I abandoned what few earthly possessions I had and took off to Hawaii with nothing but a backpack and small duffel bag. Upon my arrival, I rented the cheapest room in Honolulu I could find, which I used as my base of operations for exploring the islands through Summer. By Fall, I'd found myself back on the mainland, bouncing from state to state as I caught up with folks I hadn't seen since before the pandemic began. Come Winter, I was cooling my heels back in Utah for a spell, resting up while plotting my next move. As of today, I am now living in my small, solar-powered RV, just going where the weather suits my clothes. It's not nearly as glamorous as it sounds, I assure you, but I'm finding that I like it well enough for now.
Here's wishing you all adventures of your own in 2022.
xoxo,
AG
