Thanks in advance for your support!

I thought I’d do a quick round up of what the major media sources are saying, and then share some great insights I saw on social media.

Washington Post: Israel strikes Iran, Israeli official says; U.S. says it was not involved

Israel carried out a strike on Iran early Friday in retaliation for a barrage of missiles and drones launched last weekend, an Israeli official said. It was not clear what damage the apparently limited strike caused in central Iran, but the official — who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive military matters — said it was intended to signal to Iran that Israel has the ability to strike inside the country. Secretary of State Antony Blinken declined to comment on whether Washington was warned about the strike, but he emphasized that “the United States has not been involved in any offensive operations.”

Iranian state media was muted in its response to the attack, saying Iran’s air defense systems intercepted “three small drones” in Isfahan province. There was no damage to Iran’s nuclear sites, including those in Isfahan, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Friday morning. Isfahan is the site of Iran’s largest nuclear research complex; the area is also home to a military base.

Associated Press: World reacts to apparent Israeli drone attack

Meanwhile, an apparent Israeli drone attack on Iran saw troops fire air defenses at a major air base and a nuclear site near the central city of Isfahan. It came days after Tehran’s unprecedented drone-and-missile assault on Israel.

Israel also carried out a missile strike targeting an air defense unit in southern Syria, causing material damage, Syria’s state-run SANA news agency said, citing a military statement.

Israel had vowed to respond to Iran’s unprecedented weekend attack, leaving the region bracing for further escalation after months of fighting in Gaza. Allies have urged Israel to hold back on any response to the attack that could spiral.

Regional tensions have increased since the start of the latest Israel-Hamas war on Oct. 7, when Hamas and Islamic Jihad — two militant groups backed by Iran — carried out a cross-border attack that killed 1,200 people in Israel and kidnapped 250 others. Israel responded with an offensive in Gaza that has caused widespread devastation and killed more than 33,900 people, according to local health officials.

CNN: Israel has carried out a strike inside Iran, US official tells CNN, as region braces for further escalation

Israel has carried out a military strike inside Iran, a US official told CNN Friday, a potentially dangerous escalation in a fast widening Middle East conflict that Iranian government officials have so far sought to play down.

Iran’s air defense systems were activated in the cities of Isfahan and Tabriz after three explosions were heard close to a major military airbase near Isfahan, state media reported early Friday morning.

Maj. Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi, the commander-in-chief of Iran’s army, said the explosions in the sky above Isfahan were related to anti-aircraft systems shooting at what he called a suspicious object, which did not cause any damage, Iranian state news IRNA reported. Other Iranian officials said air defenses intercepted three drones and there were no reports of a missile attack.

Iran has not identified the source of the strike.

Reuters: Tehran plays down reported Israeli attacks, signals no retaliation

Explosions echoed over an Iranian city on Friday in what sources described as an Israeli attack, but Tehran played down the incident and indicated it had no plans for retaliation - a response that appeared gauged towards averting region-wide war.

The limited scale of the attack and Iran's muted response appeared to signal a successful effort by diplomats who have been working to avert all-out war since an Iranian drone and missile attack on Israel last Saturday.

Iranian media and officials described a small number of explosions, which they said resulted from air defences hitting three drones over the city of Isfahan in central Iran. Notably, they referred to the incident as an attack by "infiltrators", rather than by Israel, obviating the need for retaliation.

A senior Iranian official told Reuters there were no plans to respond against Israel for the incident.

Timestamp: 7:42. Iran attacked Israel. Brief recap, with one important larger point that i wanted to cover.

Timestamp: 11:45. The Iran attack was stopped cold by Israel, the United States, the United Kingdom, Jordan, and other allies. But this brings up a larger point about the horrific, daily attacks Ukraine is trying to survive from Russia.

Timestamp: 25:45. The latest on the prospects of additional Ukraine funding. And four reasons for why I think it will actually pass this time.

Timestamp: 40:20. Germany to send additional Patriot air defense battery to Ukraine.

Timestamp: 41:12. The United States has responded to China’s aggression in the South China Sea by deploying a new missile launcher to the Philippines.

Timestamp: 48:37. Motivation and encouragement, just for you. As well as the honoring of a special Medal of Honor recipient.

Timestamp 1:01:50. Some final words of unity and a few special words for those vets out there (and non-vets, too) who are struggling with PTSD or are just in a really low valley right now. I think it’s really important to discuss this topic in every single show since veterans are at 57% higher risk of suicide than their peers of the same age groups who haven't served. Please listen to this if you are struggling.

For those who don’t know, my name is Stan R. Mitchell, and I’m a prior Marine and journalist.

Every week, I primarily do three things with my podcast:

Cover emerging hotspots and foreign policy news that you absolutely should know. (Why I focus on foreign policy...)

Work to unite our country and remind us of how lucky we are to live in America. (My thoughts on the division in this country...)

And finally, I always share plenty of motivation and encouragement at the end of each episode.

Take a listen to the podcast. I really hope you get something out of it.

Never, ever give up segment links:

I call it the "Never, ever give up segment” because we must never ever give up as a country (though we face great division, a massive debt burden, and probably future problems that none of us could even predict. But we must never give up as a country.

And I believe we must stay united.

And also as individuals, we must never, ever give up. We’ve got family and friends counting on us, so in this section, I’m going to share some motivation to help encourage you.

I’d like to begin by honoring a Medal of Honor recipient.

If you don’t know, the Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration you can possibly earn in the military, and it’s awarded to service members who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor.

The medal is typically awarded by the President of the United States, upon the recommendation of the Armed Services.

I share these Medal of Honor stories to remind us of the sacrifices that have been made through the nearly 250 years of American history.

More than 1 million Americans have died in war getting us to this place and time.

And I think it’s always important we remember it, particularly when we have people regularly saying we face a potential civil war. Or that we should split because of culture war or what tax rate we should have or any other number of silly reasons.

I think our forefathers and foremothers would be dumbfounded to think we could rip apart this great nation over such trifling issues.

Now, let’s share some motivation to make sure that we never, ever give up in our own personal lives.

Of course, if you’re a regular listener, you know I also speak about never giving up when I discuss PTSD at the end of the show.

But for now, let’s just talk about some motivation.

And we’ve got some great ones this week.

I always like to share a few from the Bible, because this book has become such a source of strength and wisdom and calm for me during the past year.

And I hope by sharing a few, it might encourage you to get into the Bible yourself. Because I think it’ll really help you.

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭90‬:‭1‬-‭4‬, 10, ‭12‬-‭17‬ ‭NLT

“Lord, through all the generations you have been our home!

Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.

For you, a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours.

Seventy years are given to us! Some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away.

Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom. … Take pity on your servants!

Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.

Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil years with good.

Let us, your servants, see you work again; let our children see your glory.”

Thanks in advance for your support!

Iran has launched its retaliatory attacks on Israel in the past few hours.

Here are a couple of official updates from Israel.

The Washington Post reported:

Iranian attacks on Israel were “four-pronged,” according to a report carried by the Iranian state-run Tasnim News Agency.

The missile and drone attacks were launched at Israel from positions in Iran, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen, according to the agency, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iran supports the powerful armed group Hezbollah in Lebanon, smaller armed groups in Iraq and the Houthis, a rebel group in Yemen.

It wasn’t just Israel shooting down the drones and missiles. The United States took part, as well, probably over the skies of Iraq. Also taking part was the United Kingdom. Image And also Jordan.

Jordan's air force intercepted and shot down dozens of Iranian drones that violated its airspace.

Iran has warned Jordan it may be next target because of its cooperation

Here’s a look at Israel’s multilayered air-defense system And here’s a good summary of Iran’s weapons that they likely used

For now, this is all we know.

Israel plans to respond.

And we need to keep as calm as we can.

The media will do its best to blow this out of proportion. We simply need to just breathe and remember that it’s probably not as bad as the media is saying.

Remember Y2K? Bird flu? Swine flu? Etc. Etc.

I’ll try to do another update as I can and as the new merits it.

Timestamp: 4:59. The Ukraine military aid bill that’s stuck in the House. What’s the latest on this? Where’s it at? How did we get here?

Timestamp: 11:28. Let me share the scariest thing I’ve heard yet from a Congressional reporter… Could there really be no Ukraine aid until the election?

Timestamp: 13:48. Also, just as scary. Are the two discharge petitions just symbolic? Fake little appearances of action, that won’t even be acted on?

Timestamp: 20:13. A Republican makes the case for why Republicans should pass Ukraine aid for Trump’s own good, in case Trump is elected, since Russia could very well be in the middle of its final steps of finishing off the conquering of Ukraine as Trump takes office.

Timestamp: 28:17. Russia has carried out its most successive attacks against Ukraine in the past week, as depleted air defenses inside Ukraine are unable to knock down the incoming ballistic and cruise missiles.

Timestamp: 34:57. Ukraine’s attacks on Russia’s oil refineries are starting to make a dent on the country led by Putin.

Timestamp: 37:38. ISIS hits Moscow theater, killing more than 150. What are the implications of this attack, and will there be more?

Timestamp: 46:47. Contrary to popular belief on the far Right, there’s only one way Russia can win the war in Ukraine. I cover that in brief.

Timestamp: 50:25. While the United States dithers on Ukraine aid, a few European countries have stepped up yet again in the past week.

Timestamp: 53:41. Is America at its most dangerous point militarily speaking in 40 years? It is according to at least one currently serving four-star admiral, who testified in front of Congress.

Timestamp: 58:34. China has again taken dangerous actions against lawful Philippine operations in the South China Sea, injuring Filipino service members and significantly damaging their vessel.

Timestamp: 1:05:36. Motivation and encouragement, just for you.

Timestamp 1:12:28. "This is part of a full-court press by the United States to not only focus on working on opening up and expanding routes via land, which are the optimal way to get aid into Gaza but also by conducting air drops," Ryder said.

NATO troops in Ukraine? From The Washington Post:

“Nothing should be ruled out,” French President Emmanuel Macron said in comments that triggered a mini continental uproar. Macron was briefing reporters on the sidelines of a Monday meeting with 25 European leaders in Paris on their continued support for Ukraine as it resists Russia’s invasion. Kyiv has suffered recent battlefield setbacks as it grapples with shortages in munitions and workforce. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, whose views are more sympathetic to the Kremlin than many of his peers, had earlier suggested that there were European countries “prepared to send their own troops to Ukraine” — a revelation that was put to other European officials in attendance.

Officials from the United States, Germany, Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic and a number of other NATO countries all dismissed the suggestion that they were considering sending troops. But Macron chose “strategic ambiguity” and stressed the importance of not allowing Russia to win the war. “I remind you that two years ago, many around this table were saying: ‘We’re going to offer sleeping bags and helmets,’” he told reporters at the Paris meeting. “Today they’re saying: ‘We’ve got to go faster and harder to get missiles and tanks.’ They have the humility to realize that we have often been six to 12 months behind schedule. That was the aim of tonight’s discussion. So anything is possible if it helps us achieve our goal.”

And with that, thanks for joining us this week on The View from the Front.

That’s it for this edition.

Love my moderate, optimistic view of politics and want to know more about how I see things?

Go here:

Political thoughts from a Southern GentlemanI’m a prior Marine and Republican, who's now a moderate. I write Lincoln-like political thoughts, full of kindness and hope. I truly believe most Americans are good and we need compromise, unity, and love. Not mockery or extremes.By Stan R. Mitchell

As a reminder, please be kind and try your best to love your fellow Americans.

So many men and women have sacrificed, fought, and died to keep this country together the past 240-plus years. Please work daily to unite our country again. The vast majority of Americans are decent, loving, great people.

Also, please try to be a better person each and every day. Try to be kinder on social media and how you interact with others with whom you disagree.

Please join me again in our next episode, and please stay safe until then.

Don’t forget: You can comment anytime — I try to monitor those. You can also reach out privately at: authorstanrmitchell@yahoo.com. (You can say “hi,” vent, or send news tips! I love all three of those things!)

Love and peace,

Stan R. Mitchell

P.S. Don’t forget to check out my books. I’ve written a CIA/Marine sniper series, a detective series, a private investigator series, an action-packed Western, a motivational self-help book about President Obama, and two realistic war novels: one about World War II and one about Afghanistan. You can find all of these books on Amazon.
