A simple prayer before reading the Bible

God, may your word take root in my heart.

I need you to hold me tight today.

To let your word feed my soul

and sustain me when I am weary.

In Jesus name  Amen!

Two Scriptures to Ponder

This morning the following two pieces of scripture (copied below with my emphasis) came across my path. I offer them below with my thoughts.

One

“A leper came to him, begging on his knees, “If you want to, you can cleanse me.”

Deeply moved, Jesus put out his hand, touched him, and said, “I want to. Be clean.”

Then and there the leprosy was gone, his skin smooth and healthy.”

(Mark 1:40–42, The Message)

Two

“A man out of the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought my mute son, made speechless by a demon, to you. Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and goes stiff as a board. I told your disciples, hoping they could deliver him, but they couldn’t.

Jesus said, “What a generation! No sense of God! How many times do I have to go over these things? How much longer do I have to put up with this? Bring the boy here.”

They brought him. When the demon saw Jesus, it threw the boy into a seizure, causing him to writhe on the ground and foam at the mouth. He asked the boy’s father, “How long has this been going on?”

“Ever since he was a little boy. Many times it pitches him into fire or the river to do away with him. If you can do anything, do it. Have a heart and help us!

Jesus said, “If? There are no ‘ifs’ among believers. Anything can happen.

No sooner were the words out of his mouth than the father cried, “Then I believe. Help me with my doubts!

(Mark 9:17–24, The Message)

Three

My take away? That we should hold nothing back from Jesus. If we are in need we must remember that Jesus is present, able, and willing to help us.  Nothing is to hard or impossible for God!

A great question

Am I going to let my circumstances

determine my view of God,

or am I going to let God

determine how I view my circumstances?

Great is God’s Faithfulness

Walking around these walls

I thought by now they’d fall

But You have never failed me yet

Waiting for change to come

Knowing the battle’s won

For You have never failed me yet

Makes Sense

God doesn’t take our burdens so that we can become irresponsible, but so we can serve Him better.

Good reminder

The antidote for covetousness is contentment.

The two are in opposition.

Whereas the covetous, greedy person

worships himself,

the contented person worships God.

Contentment comes from trusting God.

God is watching over you

Here is a song from 1870 to remind us that we are never alone. If you are feeling unsure of what is around the corner…soak in these words…and rest in the assurance that God is guiding you to where you need to be.

Precious promise God has given

To the weary passerby,

On the way from earth to Heaven,

“I will guide thee with Mine eye.”

When temptations almost win thee

And thy trusted watchers fly,

Let this promise ring within thee,

“I will guide thee with Mine eye.”

When thy secret hopes have perished

In the grave of years gone by,

Let this promise still be cherished,

“I will guide thee with Mine eye.”

When the shades of life are falling

And the hour has come to die,

Hear thy trusty Pilot calling,

“I will guide thee with Mine eye.”

A pray…continued

You know my every longing

You’ve heard my every prayer

You’ve held me in my weakness

’cause You are always there

So I’ll stand in full surrender

It’s Your way and not my own

My mind is set on nothing less

Than You and You alone

I will not be moved
