BOOK OF THE WEEK – BEG FOR MERCY by SHANNON DERMOTT
BEG FOR MERCY
by Shannon Dermott
Blurb:
Everyone dreams of that first kiss. Of that magic moment when your lips finally meet those of that special person you’ve waited your whole life for. A little awkward, a little scary, a little hot and every bit amazing. We speculate that the whole world will shake and time will just stop. No one, however, ever imagines that kiss to bring Death himself knocking.
Sixteen year old Mercy Moore’s life just got more complicated. The kiss that originally could have meant she would finally have a boyfriend now was the kiss that could have very nearly ended his life. A small detail her mother conveniently never told her will take her life for an abrupt u-turn. Dating, no love, was now completely and utterly impossible. And the boy well, that boy would never be the same.
But life, however cruel, goes on. Far too soon for her taste, Mercy finds herself at a senior party with the elite students of her school and her best friend. And of all things, playing a stupid game that could very well mean the death of someone in that small room. If it were not for her best friend, the hottest guys in school, and a small need to fit in, she may have been able to escape the disaster that was to come. Her worst nightmare, her personal curse, her very life, only gets dangerously worse.
This is a young adult paranormal romance novel.
Cassidy’s Review:
I really, really loved this book. When I read the blurb I was expecting a typical story about a girl trying to come to terms with her succubus nature, but this was so much more than that. There were twists and turns in this book that I honestly did not see coming. The character development was excellent, and I loved every character in this book. I thought Mercy was a realistic teenager and found her very likable. I was flipping pages till the wee hours, and once I read the last sentence I breathed a sigh of satisfaction as the ending did not disappoint. I am going to settle down to read the next book in the series now. I need to know what happens next!

DIARY THINGS
Hi
Had a meeting today to discuss the second half of Crimson 2. Book cover is being designed, things are all going well. Got another meeting coming up for the…GRAND FINALE! Well, the grand finale of book 2 anyway to set things up for book 3
Amos met up with Paul Mooney, our cover artist, on Friday evening to discuss what we would like done for the cover of Book 2. We have got a clear idea of who will be on the cover and are really excited to see the final result.
We’ve decided to give ourselves some R and R soon by having an X Box night. Bust out the Gears of War or maybe some zombie action in Left 4 Dead or Resident Evil…
Ta-ra for now!

BOOK TRAILER DIARY
CASSIDY:
For all of you indie authors out there who have considered but either discarded or put off the idea of making a book trailer, I decided to share my recent experience with you. Now bear in mind I am not the most computer literate person on the planet so initially I balked at the idea, imagining it to be terribly hard work and extremely complicated. However, one Friday night I sat down determined to give it a go.
I won’t bore you with the details of my Google searches – trying to find a tutorial – instead I’ll just give you the link to the tutorial I used.
Tutorial Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nyRNU-Zrfo
The tutorial made the whole process sound so easy and I found that I did indeed have Windows Live Movie Maker on my laptop. So off I went searching for the perfect public domain images that I could use in a slide show. Once I had these I began search for the music. This I found to be much harder. I just couldn’t find the right track! I decided to create the video and worry about the track later.
Windows Live Movie Maker proved to be pretty simple to navigate once I had played around with it for a while, and after making four rough projects, I began working on the proper trailer.
The whole thing took me a couple of hours, but I’m sure someone with a little more knowledge would have completed the task much sooner. The trailer was complete! Er…well almost, I still didn’t have any music. And here is where the generosity of other indie authors and Goodreads members comes into play. D.D. Chant, the author of Broken City, and an indie author like us, found us the perfect solution in the form of an original track composed by her sister who works under the name Gentian. The trailer was finally complete!
I am so grateful to be part of such a close-knit community of authors and readers on Goodreads and am constantly amazed at the generosity of advice and support from other indie authors and readers.
I hope my little diary entry may help other indie authors put together their own book trailer.
AMOS:
I would like to thank Cassidy for working so hard on the trailer. You did an amazing job! x x x I’d like to thank her super-quick laptop too
And a big thank you to Gentian for the fabulous music for our trailer, and to D.D. Chant for pointing us to Gentian. Thanks so much
And more big thanks to everyone on Goodreads for being such a cool bunch

BOOK OF THE WEEK
* Hello, all. Welcome to our new category ‘BOOK OF THE WEEK’. Details below:
Cassidy:
As I read about 4-5 ebooks a week, Amos and I decided that we would add a new weekly post to our blog called Book of the Week. I will post my ebook recommendation every Monday from the week before. This way I get to include my weekend reads also
MONDAY, 16th APRIL, 2012.
Broken City by D.D Chant.
Blurb:
In a broken city, filled with warring tribes, lives:
A girl with no future
A man with no past
A little lost boy
And those who seek to find him….
….Welcome to Deeta’s world.
Deeta Richards has never seen the outside world. Before she was born a banking crisis brought civilization to an end and now no one leaves the safety of the compounds unless they need to, but Deeta still dreams of seeing more than the building she was born in.
Tom is in the guard, this group are the only people who the tribal elders allow to leave the compound and Tom knows only too well that Deeta could never survive the harshness that exists outside. Then tragedy strikes and Deeta and her Sister Jan find themselves captured by a hostile tribe. Why does Tom know so much about these people? And why do they know so much about him? As this mystery draws to a climax, they discover that their friend Tom is not quite what he seems…..
I finished this book in one sitting, and am eagerly awaiting D.D Chant’s next offering.
Here is my review:
Broken City is one of those novels that immediately engages the reader and doesn’t let go until the last page.
Often in dystopian novels you get pages of info dump as the author tries to fill you in on the way of the new world they have created. In those cases, I find myself struggling to assimilate all the information thrown at me and invariably switch off. Not in this case. D.D Chant bleeds colour into the world she has created so skilfully, that the reader doesn’t even realise what is happening until they find themselves standing within a masterpiece. The character development is done in such a way that you feel as if you are slowly peeling away the layers to get to the person underneath. I found myself totally believing that a particular character would behave in a particular way, simply because their hopes, dreams, and motivations became real to me.
Broken City is a feast full of romance, action, high emotion and vivid characters. I would highly recommend this book.
Rating ***** (5 out of 5 stars)
