A really solid read

Reading ReneeI writes an enjoyable blog and loves learning about new authors. I'm elated that she read my family saga novel, Apart from Love, and reviewed it:

5.0 out of 5 stars Overall a really solid readByReading Reneeon September 20, 2018Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase SO Good

I first discovered Uvi Poznansky on twitter. As a blogger, she quickly offered help and cross promotions. She is not selfish and helps all authors. The first book I read of hers was Rise to Power. Since then I can say I am a huge fan. I adore her writing style. The White Piano and was wonderful. I had to read the series.
For this book, it gives both POV Perspectives of Ben & Anita The White Piano is woven into this book, which contains both Ben’s and Anita’s perspectives. Personally both sides were equally enjoyable for me. VERY detailed writing with descriptive passages.

Overall very emotional read

He’d never thought he'd love again

Jacob Stark wiped his boots on the welcome mat outside of the cottage guesthouse he shared with Alex. He looked around appreciably at the blooming summer flowers. Shogun, who napped on the wooden floor, raised his head and looked at his master. Jacob reached down and ruffled his ears as he admired the handsome dog. He’ll be great protection for Alex when I’m gone."You takin’ care of things here, Shogun? You’re gonna have to take care of things around here a bit longer because I've got to go away for a couple of months," Jacob said in a low voice. Shogun licked his hand. Then he gazed at his master. Jacob had an eerie feeling that the dog understood. He entered the house and found Alex making lemonade in the kitchen. The sight of her softened his hardened, warrior soul. She looked beautiful squeezing lemons. The smell in the kitchen was fresh. Alex was tall, five feet eight inches in bare feet. Her long auburn hair was pinned into a haphazard updo which only added to her beauty. One look at her thin, elegant body gave no suggestion that she just had his child less than two months ago. Jacob's eyes filled with tears. He couldn't believe this lovely woman loved him and even more than that, he couldn't believe how much he loved her. He’d never thought he'd love again after the death of his wife. He continued to stare at Alex as she squeezed lemons into a large picture. Her hands were beautiful, her fingers long and elegant. He watched her swift movements as she combined the lemons with water and sugar. He looked over and saw his son, Adam Jacob sleeping in his bassinet. His heart filled with warmth and joy. He was a lucky man, even if he was being pursued and chased by terrorists and leaving in a few days to hunt them. He never thought he’d love again, much less have a son.For a second, his heart froze. Suppose the terrorists did return to Wyndley Farm and captured Alex and baby AJ. He could never live with that loss. Images of Saba flashed through his mind as he imagined the horrific things the terrorists had done to her body. No, there was no way he’d ever let anything happen to Alex or her family. They were his family now. They had all been so good to him since he’d returned from Yemen. He’d never believed that Congressman Adam Patrick Lee would accept him as his future grandson-in-law, particularly when he’d learned Jacob worked with terrorists on the first attack on Wyndley. But the crotchety, intelligent old man had shocked him. He’d accepted Jacob Stark that like a son. Adam knew Jacob had saved Wyndley, a historic Virginia plantation from extinction. He feasted on the image of Alex for another moment and called her name. She turned from the sink and looked at him. Their eyes locked, blue on blue. Jacob walked over and took her into his arms and hugged her. His heart hammered in his chest. He couldn't believe how much he loved her. I can never live without this woman."I missed you," he said gently. "What have you been doing this afternoon?" Alex nestled into his arms. "Oh, not much. This and that, taking care of AJ mostly. I snapped some butterbeans. Shogun and I went for a walk and I sat in Grand’s sunroom and listened to the birds sing." She hesitated and added, "Mostly, I just missed you," she said in a soft voice. "How goes it at Diggers?" Jacob sighed heavily as he remembered. "Pretty good, have you ever seen his office downstairs?" Alex laughed. "You mean the man cave with the computers and electronic equipment with the TV screens everywhere?" "That's it," Jacob said with a smile. "Yeah, I spent most of my childhood down there. That's where I learned how to play Scrabble and Monopoly. I used to have my very own television set and I would watch TV while Digger worked," she said as she smiled at the memory. "Well, I didn't play any monopoly today," Jacob admitted. "But I did see some fairly sophisticated monitoring equipment. I tell you, that guy has it going on in the surveillance world, doesn't he?”

Love and Loss and Family

New review by Aurora Dawn of The White Piano:

5.0 out of 5 stars Love and Loss and FamilyByAurora Dawnon September 16, 2018Format: Kindle Edition For fans of the series, this is actually the chronological last story in the series, told from the point of view of Ben, Lenny and Natasha's son. Like all of the stories in the series, The White Piano is lovingly and sensitively told, sometimes painful to read, as the details of a troubled family often are and completely captivating.
Each of the characters - Ben, Anita, Natasha and Lenny - are deeply flawed and broken whether through illness, upbringing or disillusionment, but they all love fiercely and, in the end, that love sees them through to the tragic, but ultimately inevitable completion of Natasha and Lenny's romance.
I can't say this is my favourite of the five stories. In fact, it's much too sad for that, but it is still beautiful, like the white piano that acts as it's centre piece; neglected and unplayed at the end but still capable of beautiful things.
If you haven't read Still Life with Memories, do it now, but leave this book till last. It's the perfect end, all the more so when you've experienced the joy and magic of Lenny and Natasha's love in it's younger, purer form.

Closer the Gestapo shoes squeaked

Joe grabbed her hand. “Let’s go!” he yelled, and together, they took off, the men’s moans coupled with low curses behind them, growing fainter by the second. He led her over to one of the small alcoves he had hesitated in front of before.
“This has to be the one,” he said. “Hold onto my belt.”
What seemed at first to be a dim little inlet, turned out to be a long, dark passageway, where the temperature chilled and a slightly foul odor emerged. She followed him blindly, until he suddenly stopped short, and she rammed up against him.
“What’s going on?” she asked.
“We’ve run into a wall. But if it’s what they told me about, it’s good,” he said in a low voice.
She inched up beside him and realized he was running his fingers over the plaster, scouring for something.
“It’s gotta be here somewhere,” he whispered.
“What’s gotta be here?” she whispered back, but he didn’t answer.
She heard another sound.
He, too, had obviously heard the several footsteps at the mouth of their little “cave.” Fear spiked through her. She didn’t dare move. As the footsteps grew even closer, she heard some words.
“Ich denke ich höre sie.”
Suddenly her high school German came back to her. “I think I hear them,” they had said.
How close are those guys? Still holding onto his belt, she waited for Joe to do something lifesaving, but all he did was move them sideways, as the speed of his hand movements on the wall in front of them grew more frenetic. What in the world was he looking for? She wanted to ask him but didn’t dare utter a sound.
The creaky sounds of cheap shoes, one careful step after another, kept on advancing and still, no solution from Joe.
“Ich kenne deine beiden hier,” one of them snarled out loud.
She clapped one hand over her mouth. They had said, “I know you’re both here.”
Closer the Gestapo shoes squeaked. Closer and closer. It’d be over soon. It’d––

Fooling Nazi Intelligence: feature by @JacqBiggar

Jacquie Biggar is a wonderful Romance author, who describes herself with her typical humor, "When I’m not being a total klutz I am a wife, mother of one, grandmother, and a butler to my dog and cat." O am honored that she read my romance book, Dancing with Air, reviewed it, and to top it off, also created a wonderful feature for it on her blog. Check it out:

The opening of this story begins with Lenny and Natasha in the hospital waiting for testing for her further of her dementia. This causes Lenny to remember more of their past and how their love for each other grew during World War II.

This was another strong installment in the series by Ms. Pozanasky. I have had a hard time writing the review since finishing the audiobook. The opening in the hospital and the powerful epilogue were really moving. If you are familiar with the series you can understand why.

Don Warrick again did an amazing job with his narration of this audiobook. The life he brings to the characters and this world the author has created is simply amazing. The production value of the audiobook is also of the highest quality. The audiobook had a crisp and clear sound quality through the entire production.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

The terrors of death have fallen on me

All night long my thoughts trouble me. I am distraught over giving my permission to my firstborn son, Amnon, to attend Absalom’s feast. Why? Because the sudden friendship between the two of them is simply too sudden. I mean, it takes time to build a bond. This is especially true in this case, where trust has been breached in such a blunt, terrible way, with Tamar’s rape. I go out to the royal gardens, where a cold wind whips the slender palm tree, bending its solitary shoot till its crown of leaves shakes, rattling violently as if it were about to slip down. There I hunker down, listen to the wild beat of my heart, and wait. I wait for the night to end, hoping that by sunrise I may find some relief, some deliverance. The storm sings, yet I am silent. But after a while, listening to its rhythm, I match it with words, I intone, “My heart is in anguish within me. The terrors of death have fallen on me. Fear and trembling have beset me, horror has overwhelmed me. I said, ‘Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.’”In the moonlight, silvery dust swirls around me. Blow by blow it rises before my eyes. Through its veil, the view of the mountains around Jerusalem is truly magical. It makes me ache to find my way back to the caves and crevices where I used to dwell. Perhaps because of my folly— the folly of a man who has known success and tired of it—I yearn for way things were, long before I became king.

"Uvi Poznansky captures David's character and writes empathetically about a man living with the consequences of his own flaws of character. Her writing is exquisite. The tale she tells is masterfully crafted and, as she fills in the details of the biblical account, she does so with insight and understanding of the human condition. I loved this book!"  Bill Cronin, Author

I’m not a terrorist, I’m not a traitor

About an hour later, someone knocked at the office door.
“Come in,” she called out.
When Russ Quinlan walked into the room, Sarah couldn’t have been more surprised. Although he’d been doing the required work, he’d been avoiding her for the last two weeks. In fact, she didn’t even know where he was staying.
She cleared her throat and spoke. “What can I do for you, Russ?”
Rather than acting like the belligerent jackass that he had before, he was looking rather sheepish, so Sarah was even more puzzled as to why he was here.
“Is it alright if I sit down?” Russ asked.
“Ah…yeah. Sure,” Sarah answered.
When he sat in the chair across from her desk, his eyes met hers. “I’m sorry.”
Bemused, Sarah’s eyes went wide. “For what?”
“You have a prosthetic, Legs? Um, I mean Sarah?”
“Yeah. But you knew that,” she said.
“No, I didn’t,” Russ answered. “I thought…”
“You thought what?”
“I…can’t talk about it,” Russ said. “But…” He swallowed. “Is there a specific reason you’ve been off the radar for so long?”
She was becoming even more bewildered. “Why, because I was told not to talk about what happened to me in Iraq in public.”
Russ was staring at her with what looked like horror in his eyes. “Sarah, what did happen?”
“I…was held hostage. And…” her voice faded away as tears filled her eyes.
But she hated it when she started feeling sorry for herself.
So swiping away the tears, she squared off her shoulders with her chin held high, just daring Russ to transform into his normally insolent self.
“Oh, my God,” he whispered, closing his eyes and standing back up. “Sarah…they told me…”
But suddenly, he seemed to come to a realization.
“They’re going to try and set me up,” he muttered under his breath.
Sarah was totally confused.
“I need someone to know. I need you to know. What happened to you wasn’t supposed to happen.”
“I don’t have a single clue about what you’re talking about, Russ.”
He began pacing the floor, and then looked at her again. “I can’t believe I thought…”
“What?” Sarah asked impatiently. This had to be one of the strangest conversations she’d ever had.
“You know I thought about asking you out when I first met you? But then I found out you were engaged.”
She blinked.
Russ continued, “I’ve always liked you. I’m sorry for the way I’ve been behaving these last few weeks.”
Sarah shook her head dazedly.
Russ started pacing again and then he halted in front of her desk, staring deeply into her eyes. “I need to tell someone, and somehow, I know I can trust you. If what I suspect might be happening actually does, you’re going to be hearing some really terrible things about me during the next few months. You need to hold off from telling Brand that I talked to you today.”
She reluctantly nodded her agreement.
“Don’t worry, I’m not asking you to lie. I just need time. Plus, I need someone to believe me and be on my side when the time comes. Tell him that I’m not a terrorist, I’m not a traitor, and I’m being set up by someone at the highest level of U.S. government.”
Set up for what, she wanted to ask. But that was obviously something he didn’t think he should tell her.
In a state of semi-shock, Sarah sighed deeply. But she wasn’t surprised to hear what Russ was saying, since she had little faith in the stability of the new administration. Maybe she was slightly bitter being treated so badly after fighting for her country. But she wasn’t the only one who’d lost confidence in the system. Most of the appointed officials were businessmen looking out for their own interests, rather than the welfare of the American people.
Russ gave her one last reassuring glance. “Good luck, Sarah,” he said, opening the door and slipping outside.
Sarah sat at her desk for the next few minutes, trying to make some sense out of everything Russ had just revealed.
