The plot of this audiobook is really good! I liked how a murder scene was built into a virtual reality program in order to see if it could shed light on the crime. The characters have distinct personalities with quirks. The narrator had a nice voice; however, I didn't like his performance of the main female characters. He used a falsetto that sounded really weird and too contrived. It was an unwelcome distraction to the story. I would have preferred if it was toned down towards normal, which would have made this audiobook so much better. The story had an odd sex scene during the epilogue, which wasn't my cup of tea. Otherwise, the story was five star.

Well crafted story. Hard to stop listening! "Coming back to life . . . " Overdose (Ash Suspense Thrillers with a Dash of Romance Book 3) by Uvi Poznansky is just as advertised, a fast suspense thriller, with intriguing romance added. After the first two books in the series ("Coma Confidential" and "Virtually Lace") kept me up, I was excited to get into this one, and it's the best yet with some surprising twists. Great series!

I found this story to be interesting and entertaining. The lead character, a young lady named Ash, has survived a brutal assault only to find herself hospitalized and in a coma. She has no memory of what happened to her, or even of her own name, and must piece everything together from bits of conversation she overhears in her hospital room. I found this unusual perspective quite captivating. As Ash’s story unfolds, it becomes evident that Ash is still in danger from the people responsible for her attack. Her assault was no random act of violence. While I found the storyline engaging, I must comment that the medical aspects of her situation were lacking in complete authenticity, but not to a degree that I felt compromised the enjoyment of this fictional story. The story clips along at a brisk pace which could not have happened had the author chosen to rigorously adhere to grim reality. I chose to listen to the audio version of this story as I read along. The narrator, Heather Jane Hogan, did a wonderful job bringing the story and all the characters to life. It was easy to picture the whole story unfold as she read. It will be interesting to see where the author decides to take Ash on her next adventure. While I did purchase a copy of this book, I was provided with the audio version by the author and I am voluntarily offering my honest and unbiased review.

He shakes his head, still in disbelief. Please, God, no. This can’t be true.

If you can not see this chirbit, listen to it here https://chirb.it/yP1tvA

Ed lies still on the sidewalk, his eyelids open but unflinching. The only thing about him that moves are the lapels of his corduroy coat, flapping slightly this way and that across his neck as the wind floats chilly feelers over his body.Timmy gasps—but his eyes are not tearful, not yet. In that second, when time slows, the driver side door is swaying with an annoying noise. With each squeak, the child takes a gulp of air as if about to ask, “Dad, will you get up? Will you grab the door handle?”No blood is visible, at first. So, I too allow myself to wonder: Will Ed climb back into his seat, dust off his shoulders, and wave goodbye to his son, before driving away?I expect him to do so. Almost.Until another round of gunshots blasts the air. Without even thinking, I push Timmy down to the asphalt, which is quite easy because he’s such a skinny child and utterly in shock. Then I land hard on my elbows beside him and push a hand against his chest until he crawls backwards, until he butts against his father’s car. It casts a shadow over him. At the moment, there is no better place to hide.Up on the pavement, a short distance from us, blood starts puddling around Ed’s shoulder. I try to block Timmy from seeing it. He shakes his head, still in disbelief. Please, God, no. This can’t be true.Everything around us is in a state of utter confusion. The sidewalk is strewn with abandoned backpacks, as some pupils are running for their lives. Others cower behind a bush or a car. One uses his flimsy umbrella as a shield. A teacher cries out to him, “Duck!” And another teacher, by the gate of the school, yells, “Run! Get inside! Get down, crawl under your desks! And for Heaven’s sake, stay away from the windows!”A couple of parents attempt getting out of their cars to pull their children to safety, but at the sound of shooting they drop to their knees with empty arms.Next to me, Timmy turns onto his stomach, mashes his nose against the tire, and wedges himself, somehow, between the curb and the Ford. Then he crawls under it toward the rear bumper, making room for me, too. I try to cock my head up from the damp surface. Looking at the scene from under the belly of a car is a whole different experience. Someone stands at the other side of the car, and all I can see is his sneakers, socks, and the hem of his coat, flaring at its bottom. Also, the muzzle of his gun. For a heartbeat, before dark clouds close in, it glints in the sunlight. I reach over and clamp a hand over Timmy’s mouth to prevent him from screaming, from drawing the killer’s attention. A hail of bullets rains down, sparking off the front bumper. Timmy tenses up. His breath trembles as it escapes my touch. I must protect him. I must bring him back safely to his mother. The edge of the curb gouges into my back. I adjust, I turn over. Now it presses against my belly. I must not lose this child, either. Now, the killer kicks the grill of the car, then jams his weapon, hard, into the front window. I know it by seeing only one of his feet on the ground and by the sound of cracking. It reverberates all over as the car shakes. Shards of glass come pinging against the asphalt and stab at my fingers. Why is he wasting his time—at the risk of being identified, or even caught—on an empty car, when all around us, juicier targets come into his view? The first police patrol car tears around the intersection, lights and sirens screaming. It screeches to a halt. A second car follows suit, then a third. Officers file out of both of them, weapons drawn. Would he shoot at them?

I’m lying, of course. I know exactly what the problem is.

If you can not see this chirbit, listen to it here https://chirb.it/NgHc1E
When Heather and I arrive at the sidewalk outside the Clear Sky Beachside Café, I recall that according to Pa, this is where he met her for the first time. Upon his late afternoon arrival at Sandpearl Resort, he was glad to find this restaurant a stone’s throw away from his hotel room. He went in for Happy Hour and was smitten not only by the good looks of the waitress but also by the ease of talking to her, which was in stark contrast to his conversations with Ma.Heather picks up her pace, clearly eager to get to work on time. Leaving a thin plume of smoke behind her, she gives a casual nod to the regulars, already seated outside on the patio, and with the tip of her shoe, grinds the butt of her Marlboro into the sand-swept pavement. Then, with a sway of her hips, she knocks the door open. “Come in, Ash.” She casts a look at me over her shoulder, while tying the strings of her black waitress apron around her waist. “You don’t look so good. What’s the matter?”“Oh, nothing.” “Ash, dear? What is it?”Somewhat lightheaded, I wipe the cold sweat from my brow. “Have to get used to the climate, is all.”With that, I stumble over to the closest table and plop down on the chair. My dog, Browny, raises his paw to my lap and ever so gently, licks my limp hand. He must sense how faint I feel. Heather sets a glass of water in front of me and whisks the ice cubes around with a long spoon. The clinks are downright irritating. “There, there,” she says, now in a tender tone.I guzzle down the water. “Thank you,” I mutter, distracted by how light breaks, how it gets refracted at this angle and that through facets of ice mirroring each other. Staring into the glass, I think I see the bottom. Maybe it’s just an illusion of one. “I’m feeling better already.”She refills my glass. “Don’t try to fool me,” she says. “Something’s the matter with you, I can tell, and it’s not just the heat.”“You’re right.” I take another thirsty swallow. “Wish I knew what it is.”I’m lying, of course. I know exactly what the problem is. It’s not just one but three, coming at me all at once. First, there’s the mystery of the blood in the place I’m renting, which begs the question who used to live in the boarded-up room directly above my bed. Second, there’s the all-too-real prospect of being pregnant, which I’m trying not to think about because what would I do with a child born of violence? And third, of course, is my stalker.

Home, by Uvi Poznansky and her departed father, Zeev Kachel, is a glorious and lyrical collection of poetry that you will want to savor. Ms. Poznansky published this work after discovering a collection of her dear father’s poetry upon his passing. Intermingled with her own glorious writing, it is a true gem. Kathy Bell Denton’s narration is soothing and appropriately emotional, drawing in the listener to each succession of poetic passages. Do yourself a favor and give this literary gift to yourself for Christmas or Hanukah. Highly recommended by USA Today Bestselling Author, Aaron Paul Lazar.

By that sound I knew what it was: The barrel of a gun

If you can not see this chirbit, listen to it here https://chirb.it/v1b5xc

I used to think that ‘throwing caution to the wind’ was an overblown expression—until I found myself doing just that. I hurried in the direction of the glow and then, upon arriving at the village square, found the sight of the fire to be nothing short of hypnotizing. So did a crowd of Frenchmen. There was not a young man among them in sight. Most of them seemed to be in their fifties and sixties. Their faces reddened by blows of heat, there they stood, watching the flames engulf a building with a frightening roar.
There was a bursting of timber as the door collapsed into the blaze, its mass reduced to embers. Hot air rippled, one sheet over another, over the equipment inside, which included telegraph and encoding machines, as well as a large printing press. First, its metal turned white-hot. Then it started melting in a tortuous twist, as if trying to release flaming letters. Stacks of typed leaflets were arranged in one corner of the space; stacks of newspaper in the other. Over them, flying cinders swirled in the air, sparking fire. And in a flash, it all crumpled into ashes.“There goes Le Populaire,” said one man, with a sigh. And another echoed, “Oui, there it goes.”“One more underground newspaper, destroyed.”“The mere existence of it used to show us dissenters that we are not alone.” “Now, alone we are.”I stood in the back, wondering why none of them made a move, no one carried buckets of water to douse the flames. I mean, with Paris newspapers under tight German supervision, why not try to save this place? Why not help the French Resistance get their word out? Should there not be an alternative to controlled press? Were these villagers immobilized by shock—or else, was there some other explanation, which I failed to grasp, for being so passive? The sun had not risen yet, but every facade around the square was brightly lit. It was in that glow that I noticed something, a curious image that drew me away from the crowd, toward the opposite side. Pasted across the wall was a Nazi propaganda poster. At the top, in large capital letters, was a one-word question directed at the French people: Liberateurs? Are you foolish enough to consider these criminals, these members of the L'Armée du crime who are wanted dead or alive, your liberators? Take note, a reward is offered for their capture! There they were, displayed under that title for all to see: five coarse, black-and-white photographs, under which were five names of Resistance fighters. The picture in the center was the one to which I was drawn. It gave me a pang of distress. Amazingly this young, pale woman with a defiant gaze in her eyes looked a lot like Natasha—but no, that could not be! My vision must have deceived me, perhaps because of the shadows dancing across the poster, or the flames behind me, or the smoke, or something. After all, my sweetheart was elsewhere. She was far, far away. The only thing that I found more surprising than this remarkable resemblance was this: the label under her picture. It said, Rochelle. In confusion I shook my head, or rather, tried to do so—only to sense that something, some hard thing, was blocking me. It pressed directly against my temple. I heard the sound of a hammer being cocked, being pulled back into position so it might strike when released by the trigger. By that sound I knew what it was:The barrel of a gun.
