A must read for all history buffs
Jaspreet Mann Kanwar is a poet, author, and storyteller. She is the author of The Road in the Sky (and other books.) I am thrilled to find her review of my novel, The Edge of Revolt:
5.0 out of 5 stars Uvi Poznansky brings King David to life and leaves instructions that will last a lifetime., January 2, 2015By Jaspreet Mann Kanwar - See all my reviewsThis review is from: The Edge of Revolt (The David Chronicles Book 3) (Kindle Edition)
‘The Edge of Revolt’ by Uvi Poznansky silently seeps into your veins and gives you a glimpse of feelings that you have yourself felt at some point in life- a disappointed father and a rebellious son entangled in the complexities of life. I was impressed by the manner in which Poznansky has deftly and artistically handled such a complex character like David with total ease and confidence. Her knowledge of the Bible is remarkable and even more powerful is her ability to transform biblical characters into one of us. I was astonished by the stunning images, the sense of disquiet and the gentle underlying sensuality of relationships. ‘Her fragrance brings back to me the sunny, warm hues of spring. The fears, the doubts flee away.....’ Such is the effect of Bathsheba not only on the one enamoured by her, but on the reader as well. The reader drifts into the poetic lines interspersed with lessons for life. This intriguing novel time travels back into the times of the glory of King David who appears to be as human as any one of us-with his flaws, with his errors & mistakes, with his sense of alienation with his own family members and with his desire to seek his own forgiveness. This volume III of ‘The David Chronicles’ not only tells a tale but also evokes a desire to delve into the mysteries of the enigmatic interiors of the Bible. Uvi Poznansky stirs the soul of the reader and ignites the desire to introspect. Honestly, the manner in which David flees his son, highlights the trauma of our turbulent times, when rebellious teenagers grow up into young people with no regard for their parents and no empathy towards their failings. Stuck between an abyss of spiritual and emotional turmoil, will David reclaim peace of mind? Will he reconcile to fate or will he emerge victorious by defying the ruthless tides of time? Read this intensely moving tale of intrigue, betrayal, courage, love, loss and hope to decode the mystery surrounding Kind David and his turbulent times. A must read for all history buffs and for those who believe that the Bible is not just a religious text but a way of life.

Finding myself now in his place is a humbling surprise. I know I deserve it
At my age I should expect nothing but respect. But when my own son walks away from me, my resolve immediately falters. To spite me, he smiles flirtatiously at Abishag, my lovely new concubine, till she tightens her robe around her waist and turns her head away, hiding her blush from him, and perhaps from me, too. Then with a youthful vigor, Adoniah bangs the heavy iron door deliberately behind him, which makes Goliath’s sword clang against the wall, right here over my head. The rattle shocks me into trying to overcome the fright, the sudden quaking of my bones. I adore my son, which lures me into seeing myself—my own image, only more invincible—in him. So what if he is rebellious? I must have been the same way at his age. Back then, did I not leave my father, exchanging the safety of his home for something unknown, for adventure? Did I not defy his charge for me to remain there, in Hebron, and support him in his time of need? Never before have I considered how the old man must have felt, left behind in fragile health, in a crumbling house, with not one of us children staying there to keep him company—no one but loneliness. Her face still rosy with a sense of embarrassment, Abishag wipes the little smile from her lips and curtseys before me. She is obedient, perhaps even fearful of me. Plumping herself on my blankets, she goes back to holding the inkwell for me. I dip the tip of my feather in it, glancing at the veins marbling my thinning, nearly transparent skin. Is this my hand? Why is it trembling so? It seems to be my father’s, and so does my voice, when I utter the words as I scribble them, “When I kept silent, my bones wasted away, through my groaning all day long. For day and night, your hand was heavy on me. My strength was sapped, as in the heat of summer.”
My father is gone. Finding myself now in his place is a humbling surprise. I know I deserve it.

Simply well done and serves as the icing on the cake

This review is from: Twisted (Kindle Edition)This book is a collection of four stories, each one an interesting tale of mystery and intrigue. While the plots and settings are different, there is a common thread throughout them all. I found them to be captivating and I was drawn in them with the rich descriptive nature that Uvi Poznansky has with her writing ability. The bonus is exceptional too, the poem and the artwork, to me, is very introspective, simply well done and serves as the icing on the cake. This is a book that I would suggest to those who want to get lost for a few hours and be held captive till the end in an enchanting tale, albeit dark and mysterious.

I would never forget her love... And neither would he
So instead, my mother decided to acquire stuff: Ornamental purses of different shapes and sizes; an assortment of extravagant fur hats, imported from her faraway birthplace; and numerous pairs of snakeskin shoes with high heels, which were ill suited to the desert sand—all of which caused a stir among the local people.
I can recall how, as a child, I got a rare permission from her to come into the inner part of her tent, behind the screen, and take a peak into her chest. It was overflowing with nose rings, bracelets, and flamboyant clothes. With hesitant fingers I touched one of her shirts, which at the time, was way too big for me.
“Here, Yankle, try it on,” she offered.
I did. I can still remember it: The trace of her jasmine perfume, the striped blue-on-white pattern of the weave, and the swooshing sound of the fabric as it flowed over my head and cascaded around my feet. I remember her laughter, her sudden embrace; and a heartbeat later—opening to me out of the shadow, right there behind her back—the watchful eyes of my twin brother Esav, who must have been standing there for a while, without making a sound.
How my mother sensed his presence—by what quirk of intuition she knew he had been studying us—I will never be able to guess. Perhaps she saw him in my eyes. She looked at me then with an intense look, and in a flash I learned that the unsaid can be more forceful than words. What passed between us at that moment I cannot begin to describe to you. I could hear her heart beat, and at the same instant, the same hammer was pounding in my chest.
With great calm, she gathered the garment from my hand. Then she folded it back into the chest with slow, measured movements, lowered the lid and with a clack, locked it.
“Go out, Esav, go play,” she said, without even bothering to turn her head, without even looking at him; and then she added softly, “You too, Yankle.”
In two shakes of a lamb’s tail we were outside. His hair was flowing, thick and wild, in the wind as he chased me, caught me, punched me down.
All the while, I knew: I would never forget her love, her letting me wear that unusually beautiful, striped shirt. And neither would he.

Offering a new perspective, infused with her acute artistic sensibility
Seb Kirby is the author of two series, The James Blake series and the Raymond Bridges sic fi thriller series. He has been an avid reader from an early age, when his grandfather ran a mobile library in Birmingham. I am honored that he posted this review for the audiobook edition of my novel, Rise to Power:

Have you listened to any of David George’s other performances before? How does this one compare? This is the first time I've listened to a performance by David George. I think his presence is excellent and he makes a great success of bringing out the passion and intrigue of Uvi Poznansky's great writing.
Any additional comments? The story of David, known by many only for the killing of Goliath, offers a rich source for mythological storytelling that has appealed to writers, poets, playwrights and filmmakers. Uvi Poznansky joins this select group by offering a new perspective, one infused with her acute artistic sensibility. Writing from the point of view of David himself, she presents a portrait of a man consumed by passions he will perhaps never be able to fully control and imagines in superb detail much that is absent from the historical record. This is not the expected picture of the biblical King but one that brings out the whole man, good and bad. ‘Rise To Power’, the first volume of a three book series, is an impressive achievement and one that leaves no doubt that the remaining books in the series will be at the top of your reading list.

"Impressive achievement"Where does Rise to Power rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far? This is one of the best realised audiobooks I've listened to so far.

Infusing events with today's passions and her unique style

What a wonderful series!
Rise to Power
This adaptation of a familiar story from the Old Testament is unique and feels very modern. From the very first line of the prologue, the story drew me in, partly because of the masterful use of the first person by the author, and partly because of her engaging writing style. The scene of King David as a prisoner trying to escape and tell his story to liberate his soul is compelling and highly readable.
And then the story gets even better. Like all Uvi Poznansky's books, this one has crisp and engaging dialogue, well-drawn characters and a unique plot. It was interesting for me to see the events from King David's perspective and trace his journey from childhood to maturity and right into today's time, making the story relevant and engaging for today's readers. In this story, King David is not a mythical hero - he comes across as a real person, imperfect, flawed, and experiencing conflicting emotions - and that makes him so much more relatable, and his story - so much more compelling. A great read! Five stars.
A Peek at Batsheba
An enjoyable and thought-provoking book! Uvi Poznansky makes the story of King David accessible and interesting. King David is very much a human being before he is King and, like all people, he has human struggles and emotions, eternal and ever-lasting.
While Uvi Poznansky's book clearly stems from her extensive knowledge of the biblical story, research, and art history (she's an artist herself, too!), this book is a work of fiction, written in a contemporary voice that makes it much easier for today's readers to relate to the story and to King David.
Descriptions in "A Peek at Bathsheba" are beautiful, vivid, majestic and poetic. The book is a work of art but it is also an engaging story - what a treat! I love Uvi Poznansky's subtle humor and insightful commentaries. I'm curious to see how the change in Bathsheba that is beginning in this book will play out in the next book in the David Chronicles series. Five stars!
The Edge of Revolt
Torn in a heart-breaking dilemma between loyalty and justice, King David makes the choice dictated by his heart, and that results in a series of grave consequences for the king himself, his family, and country. His future life, legacy, and the potential successor are now all unclear. Like in her previous books, Uvi Poznansky masterfully interprets biblical events for the modern reader, infusing them with today's passions and her unique style, making the old stories highly relatable, engaging, and emotional. What a great series!

Book Description
In this unique collection, Uvi Poznansky brings together diverse tales, laden with shades of mystery. There are four of them: I Am What I Am; I, Woman; The Hollow; and The One Who Never Leaves. Here, you will come into a dark, strange world, a hyper-reality where nearly everything is firmly rooted in the familiar—except for some quirky detail that twists the yarn, and takes it for a spin in an unexpected direction.
This is the reality you will see through the eyes of a ghost of a woman, trying to reclaim her name by appealing to the devil; the eyes of a clay figure of a woman, about to be fired in the kiln, longing for her Creator; the eyes of a woman in the midst of a free fall, about to become a ghost; and the eyes of a feline creature with cracked fangs, trying in vain to resign herself, by hook and by crook, to being locked. These characters explore their identity, and challenge their fate.
Inspired by her art, by quotes from literature and the bible, and by the author’s professional career, these tales come from different times and places. Yet all of them share one thing in common: an unusual mind, one that is twisted. So prepare yourself: keep the lights on.
