It was on the fourth day that my mother decided to go in and see the old man
For the third day in a row, one bird after another flew into my father’s tent and tore into the canvas. On the first day, the maidservants mended the tear. On the second day they let it be, saying that in their opinion, the increased air circulation would do him some good, perhaps even revive him. And on the third day, at the sight of one open tear after another, a whisper spread around the camp, saying that this could be nothing else but an omen. It was on the fourth day that my mother decided to go in and see the old man. By now she has sent away the maidservants, dismissed the guard and told me to stand near the entry, where the rope is double knotted over the peg of the tent, and prepare myself. I am itchy. The goatskin sleeve around my arm feels heavy and moist with sweat. It is as hairy as my twin brother Esav, perhaps even hairier. “Look at that sleeve,” she tells me. “It is not a costume. This is your skin. Feel it. Smell it. Say to yourself: My name is not Yankle. I am not me. I am bold, fierce, adventurous. I am my father’s favorite son. I am Esav.”I fix the fur hat on my head, wipe the sweat off my upper lip and try to tell myself, over and over, that this arm is no longer mine. It is his. I am him. As such, this is to be my lucky day. It has started well: My brother has been out of the way all morning, hunting somewhere up there, in the mountains. Meanwhile, the stew for my father’s meal has been dished into a plate and covered with a lid, ready to be carried in. This is more than a meal. It is a token, a love offering from the son he loves. The chosen one. In exchange, the old man is to give his blessing, at which time his power will diminish. And the son, the one he loves, will take his place, and replace him as the head of the family, inheriting all his possessions. The plot is ready, and my role, I repeat to myself, is well-rehearsed. Well, as well as can be. According to my mother, there is no time, and no need, really, for any more practice. Trying too hard, as you know, may be the best guaranty for failure. “Your father is blind. Fool him,” she says. “But do so, if you can, without resorting to lies.” To which I say, “How—”“Don’t you know?” she says, teasingly. “Think! What is the best, the most reliable way to deceive? It is this: Pay attention to what he needs, and then confirm that which he wants to believe, as if, Yankle, as if it were true.”

I Am The One Trapped
Thomas Baker is the author of I Live In Chile and many other books. He is also a top 1000 Amazon Reviewer. I am thrilled that he said this about my novel, Rise to Power:
I Am The One Trapped, February 4, 2015By Thomas BakerThis review is from: Rise to Power (The David Chronicles) (Volume 1) (Paperback)
Uvi Posnznsky's "Rise To Power" is a compelling read. It stands time on its head by allowing the reader to go back to a past event and re-visit it, experience it again through modern eyes, modern morality, and modern mores. In my case, I had always detested this particular story about David. I found it immoral and unconscionable for one man to have so much power over a man. David's abuse of power was disagreeable to me, to put it mildly.
Yet this new telling of the story brought out something I had never considered before. Though I am aware that the author is freely using artistic license, I found the possibility of human weakness much more plausible as I read the following lines, with its full power of suggestion:
(quote) "...Bathsheba... She is different. My God, she is a woman! Which is why she seems untouchable to me, and not only because she is married...All of a sudden she stirs. Has the water cooled down?..."Go away," she says, with her back to me...It seems that shame is not in her nature. She moves the big sponge around her neck, into one armpit, then another, knowing full well I cannot take my eyes off her. I cannot help but notice the bubbles of soap sliding slowly down, all the way down, then around her slippery curves. She may be the one in the tub--but contrary to my expectations, I am the one trapped..."(end of quote) It is impossible not to understand what David means when he says, "I am the one trapped." I give him credit for being human, and I doubt if I would not have acted exactly as he did in the face of irresistible temptation. After all, like David, I'm only human too...

Kissing her I taste the salt of her tears
From there I go down to the women’s quarters, to see Bathsheba. The two of us continue to react in opposite ways to what has just happened. While I have regained my vigor, she has lost hers. I find her lying there, on the ground, utterly motionless. Meanwhile, my wives have gathered around her. Some of them are whispering amongst themselves, others—wiping a tear. In between them, light falls on her, catching her hand. By the glistening you can tell it is damp, because she is gripping her breasts, where the pain is the worst. Her milk is still welling up in them, still flowing. She is silent, but her body is still screaming for the child. The notion of giving her a voice, expressing her suffering, recording this moment for her in my own poetry, crosses my mind. I figure that if left unspoken, this grief—combined with the shortened mourning period for her husband, Uriah—will catch up with her later, and tear us apart. Then I try to forget all about it. I cannot write her pain. First and foremost I must find a way out of my own.I try to comfort her, but she seems to be far away, locked in her own grief. I raise her to her feet and carry her—all the way up the long, circular staircase—into my chamber. Kissing her I taste the salt of her tears. I smell the sweet fragrance of her milk. Then I make love to her.For me, this is the only way I know to fight off the presence of death. For her, at this moment, the fight is over.
David in A Peek at Bathsheba

My writing is always inspired by art. There are many other paintings that show passion, such as David and Bathsheba by Ernst Fuchs, where David is shown in all his oriental, ornamental majesty, filling most of the canvas, imposing himself on the woman he loves, and she responds to him. The painting I love is David Consoles Bathsheba by Ivan Schwebel. Here the two lovers are shown on the roof of his palace, which overlooks a cold, indifferent city scape, where one is lost in alienation. Against this background, David and Bathsheba cling together and become one, to celebrate life and passion in the face of death.

She longs for flowers, and I—for chocolate
Written by my fatherTranslated by me
I'm dying to sleep, but ohShe's eager to get goingAll because of a little windowAnd tempers that are blowing
I close it gingerlySo she demands it openI want to sleep, but woefullyShe'll shake it till it's broken
She longs for flowersAnd I—for chocolateShe wants adventure at all hoursWhile I dream only ‘bout my ballad
I want the window closedAnd she prefers it openShe hates that I have snoredIn concerts, and never woken
She deserves dresses galoreAnd a burning passionYet I have only two loves, no more:My homeland and my nation
Two loves that I adoreAre me, and you with a bouquet And one moreThe Sabbath day.

Oh, Absolom...
Author of War Songs, Grady Harp describes himself as being ever on the alert for the new and promising geniuses of tomorrow. He is an artist representative, gallery owner, writer of essays and articles on figurative and all Representational art for museum catalogues and for traveling exhibitions, and an Amazon Hall of Fame Reviewer. I am honored that he has posted this five-star review for my novel, The Edge of Revolt:

Uvi Poznansky wears a coat of many colors. Originally from Israel where she studied Architecture and Town Planning then moving to the US where she studied Computer Science and became an expert in Software Engineering, Poznansky managed to combine the design elements of two studies into unique formats. And she has accomplished the same with the other side of her brain - making visual her ideas (she is an accomplished painter, drawer, and sculptor who has enjoyed exhibitions both in Israel and in California, her present base) and making words in poetry and in short stories and children's books. THE EDGE OF REVOLT is her third installment of THE DAVID CHRONICLES novel and is adorned on the cover with an image of her own painting!
But the miracle of Uvi Poznansky's writing is her uncanny ability to return to old stories and make them brilliantly fresh. This retelling of the Biblical David unveils a character far more profound and fragile than the slayer of Goliath. His personality radiates from every page as he progresses to old age and Poznansky's gift for poetry renders a magical hue to every aspect of this story. At times startling, as times awe-inspiring, and at all times fine reading, this is a welcome addition to the growing library of one our more important writers. Grady Harp, February 15

Visiting Christoph, my partner in crime
Christoph Fischer is the author of several historical and contemporary fiction books (Sebastian, The Luck of the Weissensteiners, and more) all of which I have read and loved. He is also is Top 500 reviewer on Amazon, as well a high-ranking reviewer on Goodreads. Most recently he became my 'partner in crime' in the production of a boxed set of novels, titled At Odds with Destiny. I have visited his place before, and wrote guest posts such as The Perils of Biblical Inspiration, and I am thrilled to come back now. His first question to me was, When was the first time you decided to write?
