Plenty Complaining

Online, especially blue checks with millions of people following, but all just complain and no one doing things that will get people to act. And yes, I complain about the old dems too (how fragile are these Stockholm syndrome from Reagan's time idiots?[1]) but seriously can these popular talking heads do more than just whine? And yeah the gerontocracy is essentially killing us (see the SCOTUS' deletion of the EPA) and the dems, well, can they do more than send out fundraising emails? But others can do more, like start a callathon on Senators etc.[2]

That being said, for all the working of the refs the right does, the above panel just shows how much the techies really love them the right (way more than the left, that's for sure), whatever their stance on flying their employees out for abortions may be.
The right's only argument is that they aren't far right enough.

I mean, I remember writing Labyrinth of Souls and how it unfurled in my mind. At the time I thought some of it over the top, even as a warning, but much worse has come to pass (even if much was spot on). It's been cold comfort, being right. But now it does leave us with the question of what next?

[1] This is what our dem gerontocracy is wasting money on:

The Matthew Hoh for Senate campaign is under all-outattack, and we need your help now.

The Democratic Partyestablishment has launched a massive and deceptive voter intimidationcampaign attempting to bully North Carolina voters intoremoving their names from our NC Green Party ballot accesspetition.

We’ve been hearing from folksacross the state that they’re being bombarded with phone calls, textmessages, and even people coming to their houses demanding to removetheir signature from our petition.

This is an outrageous assault on democracy, and after wespent almost all our funds on a massive grassroots campaign to collectover 22,500 signatures, we need your help now to be able to stand upand fight back.

Will you pitch in what you can now so we candefend our hard-earned place on the ballot?

As reported by the Raleigh News and Observer, after the Green Partysubmitted over 22,500 signatures, of which nearly 16,000 passed therigorous county verification process, the Elias Law Group, headed byformer general counsel for Hillary Clinton Marc Elias, demanded alldocumentation related to the petition drive from the State Board ofElections on behalf of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee(DSCC).

Shortly after that, the DSCC beganharassing petition signers with barrages of unsolicited phone calls, text messages, and even operatives showing up to their doors afterthey said they weren’t interested.

As reported by WNCN CBS 17we have recorded evidence ofthese callers falsely representing themselves as calling on behalf ofthe Green Party, while making misleading to outright falseclaims to pressure people to remove their names from a petition thatthey already signed and we already submitted.

Our campaign team has seen a lot ofdirty tricks from the establishment parties over the years, butnone of us has ever seen such a massive, deceitful, andshameless campaign of voter intimidation to try to sabotage asuccessful grassroots petition drive.

A few media outlets have picked upon this story, but we need much more coverage because every singlevoter has the right to know how the Democratic Party establishment isattacking democracy.

Please read our full statement on the Democrats’ voterintimidation campaign, contact your local media outlets askingthem to cover this story, and write letters to the editor to make yourvoice heard. Don’t let the establishment silence ourvoices!

This massive, dirty, and obviouslywell-funded voter intimidation scheme to undo the success of ourgrassroots petition drive shows how far the Democratic Party will goto prevent someone who actually represents working people from beingon the ballot.

The establishment is terrified thatGreen Party organizers were able to succeed in clearing their ballotaccess hurdles, because they know that the people are hungry for apolitical movement that will deliver healthcare, housing, livingwages, and a sustainable economy for all.

If you are targeted by the Democratic Party’s voterintimidation campaign, please contact the campaign about yourexperience.

This blatant attack on democracyhighlights the corporate Democratic Party’s utter hypocrisy, whetherthey’re claiming to fight for democracy, stand for working people, care about climate crisis, or any other of countless issues wheretheir actions fly in the face of their rhetoric.

The hardest thing we’ve ever seen the Democrats fight foris to keep a disabled Marine combat veteran off the ballot.

But the Democratic establishment’sheavy-handed attack on our grassroots campaign will only inspire moreand more people across North Carolina to stand with us as the onlycampaign fighting for working people, the planet, peace, and realdemocracy.

Please contribute what you can today to helpus stand up and fight back to defend our hard-won ballot signatures -and democracy itself.

Thank you for all you do to supportMatthew Hoh and the growing movement for people, planet, and peaceover profit!

Peace,

The Matthew Hoh for Senateteam

[2] that I've been banned from liberal blogs for saying as much, shows the scream machine online is just some social signaling more than anything. This doesn't mean that what they signal about isn't valid, because there are lots of grassroots movements behind those, but you should know what they represent.

On it marches.

Woman who saved her kids from the school shooter is now being harassed by the cops there. No surprise for many of us who were simply asking for a little accountability. Instead we got police strikes and police strikes at the people. Note how at the most recent women's health marches the police were still striking out at the protesters. Shows what their level of thinking is.

Also goes to show that the cracks in our society have only been barely papered over. And when shit hits the fan, we know who will help who. Certainly they won't help us. trust me, this is as sad to say as it is to think.
What we're talking about is accountability. And, as with the 1/6 committee, we won't see any punishment for people breaking the law. This isn't just the POTUS (which makes America exceptional in its refusal to treat their leader as anything other than a King, because other democracies/republics do this plenty fine) position, but a general class of corporations, billionaires, judges and prosecutors who are untouchable. AS it were, their armed wing is now untouchable. See qualified immunity. See how SCOTUS has said even the feds can't harm you or be held accountable for harming you no matter what.
Sounds like the start to a Tale of Two Cities, doesn't it?

Meanwhile the elites are getting us to hate on China or Russia or each other.

JSTOR for free

Well, it limits you to 100 articles, but apparently you can get free JSTOR access. A seriously good place to spend your time if you're on the internet. You know learning things is the best thing this easy access to other people's minds gives us. Not hearing their ids  constantly screaming. For example, I searched folktales and found more than enough reading for lifetime. Lots of interesting stuff to include finding out that there's a journal of folklore research. But Manipuri folktales starts out with a bang (and a theme I also saw in Japanese folktales, that is an old couple without children).

solid level of being clever, but I wonder about some of them:

Midnight in the world, Really.

Nevermind that we're fast trying to split the world into good and bad (whatever the fuck that means), where even the European types are hating on China and Russia. The hate for the former (and increase in military spending, especially now that money isn't free/cheap anymore) will preclude spending on climate change and its consequences (nvm things like pandemic prevention, yeah we're fucking up on that still).
So to that end, people escaping dire situations will come to a head. Europe has drowned about 20k or so migrants since about a decade ago, while here in the US we have worse situations getting even worse. Worser.
46 dead migrants in San Antonio. Note that right wingers, who want this to happen [1] are claiming open borders are to blame. Uh, I'm sure they wouldn't hide like that if the borders were open.
For all our policies and even the reactions of the masses, one couldn't pick more wrong thinking than what we have.
[1] yes, agreed that centrist dems also want this implicitly or as a deterrent.

Midnight in America

So it goes. Here we are, our new theocratic overlords further destroying what's left of our democracy, our human rights, and edging us closer to that Neo feudal future they have planned for us. With this attack on women, on their health, the right wins again, and against the will of the people. So now what? Let the streets talk, for sure, but some kind of reaction is warranted.
I'm guessing that many liberals might be surprised by this. For some reason on some blogs many seemed certain that the right only wanted this "issue" to drive voters to the polls, so why bother actually solving it? A view that doesn't take into account how the right acts. They steal power where they can't hen do something with it. They don't ask permission, like I'm sure the dems are thinking about doing. Maybe a sternly worded letter will come soon.

Damn You Internet!

lol 😂 wtf?. but then there's the seriousness of the issues that we face in our future. Mainly that we need to work with China to help alleviate CC. This article breaks it down better than I can.

Book Club

Our first book club meeting went quite well. We read Republic of False Truths, a book about the Egyptian revolution and the counter revolution that crushed it. We discussed the weaknesses in the book. Some aspects like how the author, a secular type person, really 💩 s on the Muslim Brotherhood. Some is fine, but the book essentially misses how they win out an election and then got crushed by the army and had their leader murdered in prison. Seems big. And to the point that he misses out on this aspect of a social movement, a religion, he also misses out on truly capturing the working class and some of the working class neighborhoods that he had mentions in passing.
A big deal, if you ask me.
Of course, we also got to talking about how protest movements tend to be crushed in different ways. How people hitting the streets illicit the worst in authoritarian types. Just look at the reaction to the largest peaceful protests in America's history. The reaction to it is still going on today.
And we had some views from S.Korea (the good story where the protest in the 80s finally led to democracy), as well as how massacres in Mexico have helped fuel the situation there today.
And still in the states we have a right wing resurgence of homophobia and a SCOTUS looking to turn the clock back on other issues. Crazy times, friends. Crazy times.

Zizek

Thinking this piece by Zizek is really off in many ways. I'm really tired of people on all sides not taking in new information (or not outright rejecting them as falsehoods, which would at least acknowledge their existence) and not really playing the intellectual game well. It's all strawmen and bumper sticker levels of thinking (even Chomsky has this in a couple of things he repeats).

Remember those peaceful protests a while back looking for police accountability?

Well, the right (and some rightists I've talked to also seem to think this is not good [1]) seem up in arms about how the police reacted to the latest large school shooting. And apparently the husband of the teacher who was dying tried to run in with his gun tisane his wife and was stopped but he cops who weren't doing anything.

Welp, for what it's worth, I'm guessing there's gonna be a little bit of outcry followed by... nothing much. Because we don't do reform of certain powerful organizations in our failing republic.
And just to point out that we will spend billions on cops who don't want to do their job (as well as protracted wars) but we pull money from things like R&D which will help our future.

Yeah, and instead of working with China to help solve CC, [2] even Biden, like Trump, has decided we need to "confront" them. And as usual the masses seem to be swallowing it all up. The elites, our elites, are probably loving that they can blame some outsider for the falling standards in our own country (when it was them, and still is them robbing us). Well that and the workers, because apparently though all the facts don't point to worker wages being behind our inflation problem, the fed will work to crush that anyways.
So it goes.
[1] Note, though, that for our status quo rightists, or hierarchy loving types, they will tut tut about the action, just like they did initially for George Floyd, then they'll maybe point to a couple bad apples but they will never ask for proper reform of the system. And when that call for reform of the system happens, they will most likely start helping to push back. Just as they did after the largest peaceful protests in American history happened.
[2] Also, I'd like to note that China in 08, after our crisis, actually stepped up to help with spending and making sure the world didn't go through a protracted depression.
