On stress and me...

When I was a kid (like 11-12) I had a huge anxiety problem. I'd get so nervous about things that I'd get physically sick. Projects at school, cheering at basketball games, just about anything. I started to have panic attacks when I ate in restaurants. It got so bad that I started showing early signs of having an ulcer. I had to take special medication for it and I missed quite a bit of school. The attacks continued in high school, but switched from me getting sick, to having panic attacks. Why am I telling you this? Just bear with me.
Somehow, in between my transition to college, and losing my dad at 20 to cancer, I grew out of it. I still had anxiety, but it didn't consume me anymore. It's been a long time since I had a panic attack, and I'm very grateful.
Guys, I'm stressed. Numb is not done. I need to get it to my beta by next Thursday, and then to the editor the following Thursday. I know I CAN do it, but just thinking about it makes me want to run and hide. I'm also in the midst of formatting Nocturnal and Nightmare for paperback so I have them for the winners of the blog tour, working on My Favorite Mistake, designing bookmarks and swag for the blog tour, and doing interviews, etc. for the tour. I also have a job and a house and friends. I'm a positive person, but sometimes life just feels like to much. I know I should be doing something about it instead of blogging and tweeting and pinning things on Pinterest, but it's hard.
I'm afraid that I can't do it. That I won't be good enough. I'm sabotaging myself and I know I'm doing it. I just need to suck it up, but sometimes it just seems like too much. It's no one's fault but my own. I have a really hard time saying no, and when someone asks me for something, more often than not, I say yes before even thinking about if I can do it or not.
I want this book to be good. I want you to love it. So, I'm going to take a deep breath and go and put some laundry in the washer and try to pick up my house before sitting down to try and edit 20 pages and write at least 6,000 words today. I know I CAN. It's just the doing that's the hard part.

Spreading the Author/Book Blogger love!

I totally stole this idea from Shelly Crane. I feel like there has been soooo much negativity between bloggers and authors lately. This is largely due to two major incidents that have blown up in the past few weeks. They are well-documented, so if you REALLY want to know, Google it. I'm not bringing that crap onto my blog. Because this blog is a happy place. I try to be a positive person. In my experience, negativity begets more negativity. You get MUCH further by being nice than being a jerk. Seriously.

I would not be where I am, or have so many wonderful online friends if it weren't for book bloggers. NO indie author would be. We owe it all to you, Book Bloggers. I have nothing but mad love for you. Even if you write a review that says my book is the worst you've ever read, I'll still love you. I might complain or cry to my friends, but guess what? It's your opinion and we ALL have a right to have an opinion. If you want to write a 1 star review dissecting everything wrong with my books, you can. Of course, I'd prefer a 5 star ;)

So to spread the love, I'm offering up 2 ebook copies of Nocturnal, and two Whisper bookmarks. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment telling me who your favorite book blogger is! Make sure to add links to their blogs so we can all follow them. The contest will be open until July 31st at Midnight.

Two of my absolute favorites are:

Laura from Little Read Riding Hood. Not only is she my amazeballs beta reader, I think she's my soul twin. Somehow we found each other on Twitter, and I'm so glad we did.

Heather from SupaGurl Books. She is hosting my upcoming blog tour, and she's one of the busiest people I know. Seriously, I have no idea how she does it. I'm mostly convinced she's a vampire, because no human could work that hard for authors.

Who are your favorite book bloggers? Spread the love!

Cover Reveal for My Favorite Mistake!

I know, I know. Numb is my next book coming out, and YES I am hard at work on it. I'll be doing a writing marathon later today. But when I'm not working on it, I've been fiddling with my New Adult Contemporary Romance, My Favorite Mistake. Sometimes I need to take a break from the vampire angel drama and hang out with some college kids. So the other day I started looking for cover images. I had an idea of what I wanted it to look like, but I need the right image. I wanted it to be simple, but sexy. So yesterday I decided to mess around with a couple images I'd found. I wasn't planning on finishing it. But I did :) I also wasn't planning on writing a blurb before I finished writing the book, but I did that, too. It sounds backwards, but actually writing was the story was about before writing the story somehow works. SO. Here is the cover and description for My Favorite Mistake, which comes out on September 29. You can add it to your Goodreads shelf here. And if you love the cover, share it! I'll be doing a huge birthday bash/ giveaway on September 12 for some really great prizes, so stay tuned for that as well. And now I give you....

Taylor Caldwell can't decide if she wants to kiss her new college roommate or punch him.
On the one hand, Hunter Zaccadelli is a handsome, blue-eyed bundle of charm. On the other, he's a tattooed, guitar-playing bundle of bad boy. Maybe that's why Taylor's afraid of falling in love with him, or anyone else. She doesn't want to get burned, and even though her other roommates adore him, she wants him gone before it's too late.
Hunter himself has been been burned before, but the fact that Taylor calls him out on his crap and has the sexiest laugh ever make him decide maybe love isn't a lost cause. They make a bet: if she can convince him she truly loves or hates him, he'll leave the apartment--and leave her alone. The problem is, the more time they spend together, the less she hates him, and the more she moves toward love.
But when the man who holds the key to Taylor's fear of giving up her heart resurfaces and threatens to wreck everything, she has to decide: trust Hunter with her greatest secret, or do everything in her power to win that bet and drive him away forever.

A love letter to Taylor Swift...

So there are a million things I should be doing, like working on Numb, and formatting Nocturnal for paperback, but I have to take a moment to acknowledge the awesome that is Taylor Swift.
The first time I ever heard one of her songs was my sophomore year in college. I didn't have a car, so I used to bum rides home with various friends. One of them was a girl I'd been friends with in grade school, but had sorta lost touch with. She had a mixed CD and there was this song that I figured was called Tim McGraw, since it was about him. I always meant to ask my friend who sung that song, but I always forgot to ask. I didn't hear the song again for a few years.
That was my introduction to Taylor. Since then I've become not a fan, but a mega-fan. Her CD's live in my car CD player. When I put my iPod on shuffle, I skip most of the song, but never hers. I watch her whenever she's on TV and I even have her concert DVD. She's so cute and funny and down-to-earth and so humble. She's a fantastic role model for girls in a world filled with Miley Cyruses and Lindsay Lohans. She's the real deal.
Her songs are about life, they're about real things. About crushes and first kisses and heartbreak. If I had had her song Mean in junior high, my experience would have been different. I would have had an anthem to sing in my head when those girls made fun of me and I wanted to die. I would have had something to hold onto. There isn't a song she sings that I don't connect with on some level. I can't even pick a favorite, because there are so many.
My books wouldn't be the same without Taylor. My life wouldn't be the same. I know that sounds dramatic, but it's true. She inspires me all the time, nearly every day. I always have one of her song stuck in my head. Another amazing thing about Taylor is that she's a DIY gal. She has her own production company. She picks her dancers and designs the sets for her concerts. She even wrote the treatment for Mean. She's got her hands in everything. As an indie author, I've got to do the same thing.
My Favorite Mistake, my New Adult contemporary romance is about a girl named Taylor, and yes, she is named after Taylor Swift. I will also be adding her to the list of acknowledgments. Even if she never hears about me, or knows I exist. I have to give credit where credit is due.
So this is for you, Taylor.

Release dates!!!!!!

Okay, here we go. I have the official release dates for my next two books. Are you excited? I know I am. Also stressed, but I'll get over it. I really hope so.
First off is Numb, the third book in the Noctalis Chronicles. The release date is going to be on August 31. I wish I could get it to you sooner, but I just can't rush it. I might be able to get it out a few days before then, but that is the official date.
Second is that other thing I talked about the other day. That New Adult Contemporary Romance. It's got a title now, and a release date. How do you like them apples? The book will be called My Favorite Mistake and will release on September 29. It is a standalone title, but there may be another book from a different character's POV.
So there you have it, I've set the dates, I've hired my editor. These things are happening.
Oh, and check out Magan Vernon's blog. You might see an interview with me for INDIEpendence Day! It's a really cool thing that this awesome indie writer's group called The Indelibles are doing to celebrate and promote other authors. Magan is awesome, and you should totally check out How To Date An Alien and How To Break Up With An Alien. They're cute fun reads. Also, they have a hot alien in them. Like, super hot. *sigh*
Patricia Lynne, author of Being Human and Snapshots and new twitter buddy recently read Whisper and also decided to do a review, so check that out as well.
I'm off to start work on Numb!

Please be patient and some NEWS...

Yes, I know I have two contests that ended that I have yet to award winners for. I will get to it in the next few days, I swear!!! Please bear with me. Things got a little crazy for me this week. If you follow me at all on Twitter and Facebook, you know that I recently started a new story. It's a contemporary romance between college-aged protagonists. I think it would fit best in the category of "new adult." The characters are not quite adults, but they're not kids.

This book is raw. The characters are broken. They fight and tease and bait each other. It's violent and beautiful and I can't even tell you how in love with it I am. Seriously, I want to propose to it in an elaborate viral video.

There is foul language, underage drinking and sex. There are also peacock feathers, lucky charms, a guitar and lots of steamy scenes ;) So yeah, no appropriate for anyone under 17. Sorry kids. I wanted to write a book so I could share some of my college experiences, and this story attacked me on Friday night last week and wouldn't stop. I woke up the next day and had to start writing. Yes, I know I need to write Numb. Fear not, Numb is going to happen. I will be setting a release date later this week, or early next week. I've booked my editor, so it's in the works. But this new story... it kind of messed things up.
My original plan was to release Numb, then Silence (the sequel to Whisper) then Neverend (the final Noctalis book) and finish the year with Listen (the final Whisper book) so I could start next year with no pressure. Well, that's not going to happen.

What is going to happen is this: Numb will happen sometime in August. This new book, which I will share the title of and cover of at some point, will come out in September. Then Silence will be October or November, and I would love to release Neverend on Christmas. That pushes the final Whisper book to next January or February.

Please bear with me as I try and complete these crazy goals. I'll keep you updated as much as I can. I'm on Twitter and Facebook more than I'm on here, so if you're DYING to know what I'm up to, you can find me there.

By the way, I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS NEW BOOK. I HOPE YOU'RE EXCITED TOO. (please be excited)
