Fresh Olive Oil Book with Rustic Anti-Summer Allergies Soup 'n Salad

By Cal Orey Summer around the Lake at Tahoe and the world is a perfect time for garden-fresh vegetable soup. Think plenty of immune system-boosting seasonal vegetables and organic vegetarian stock for a chunky semi-homemade soup. Garlic and onions, carrots and celery—and tomatoes—with  plenty of whole grain pasta can make your pot of soup on the stove top a crowd pleaser in the kitchen and comfort food in your bowl on the table for lunch or dinner.
This season to keep allergies away (blame it on keeping windows open, pollen, dust and pet dander) I will continue to get 7.5 hours a night sleep, drink fortified orange juice, herbal teas, consume local raw honey—and vegetable soup that help keep watery eyes and sniffling away. Using garlic and onion paired with lots of veggies put into a big pot with store bought broth is amazing. Not only is it easy, the aroma in the home is sublime.

Fresh Anti-Allergy Summertime

Chunky Vegetable Soup
1 tbs. extra virgin olive oil or European style butter ¼ cup yellow onion, 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped 1 carton (32 ounces) organic vegetable broth 2 cups mixed fresh vegetables, chopped (broccoli, cabbage, carrots, celery, green bell pepper, jicama, radish) 1 ½ cups uncooked whole grain rotini Sea Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste 1/3 cup fresh spinach, chopped 5 Roma tomatoes, peeled, chopped More rustic clean food recipes in
The Healing Powers of Olive Oil, Revised and Updated
1/2 cup finely shredded Parmesan cheese (garnish)
In a skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat, add onion and garlic. Sauté for a few minutes. Pour into a large pot. Add broth and bring to a boil. Add vegetables. Bring to a boil again then put on low heat. In another pot boil pasta for several minutes until cooked. Add pasta and tomatoes to vegetable mixture.  Stir in spinach.  Simmer for about 10 minutes. Serve hot sprinkled with Parmesan cheese and slices of warm whole grain bread and butter. Serves 6.  Team it with a pot of tea!
I love this soup—when I’m well or fighting seasonal sniffles. Not only is it easy to put it together, it’s easy on the eyes and palate. It’s also the time to blast soup myths: You can use fresh tomatoes; forget canned goods. Some folks say broccoli and spinach in your soup can create a bitter taste—there is none left so I disagree. Follow the store bought broth box directions and do not dilute. Add any of your favorite herbs for extra flavor. Making semi-homemade soup can be whipped up and dished up in less than 30 minutes. It’s not your mom’s soup—it’s fresh and with your stamp on it for the 21st century.

HONEY BOOK IS TIMELESS...FAVE OF AUTHOR'S COLLECTION

By Cal Orey

UPDATE:  The Healing Powers of Honey will be released in mass market gift size format in 2018.  * It's the main feature this month of June on The Daily Tea website. * The popular book (was featured in the Good Cook book club; a best selling e-book on kobo.com in December). * It will pair nicely with the forthcoming book The Healing Powers of Tea (published by Kensington, due September 1 2016);  (excerpt from Wellbella Magazine)“Eating antioxidant-rich honey can help lower the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes—even help reduce body fat and unwanted weight—and increase longevity,” says Cal Orey, author of the [timeless] book The Healing Powers of Honey.  But the benefits of eating honey go even further. Easing sore throats, boosting energy levels and strengthening the immune system are just a few added perks. As a DIY beauty treatment, honey can also be used to soften and exfoliate the skin. It’s important to note, however, that not all honeys are created equal. “The quality of honey matters,” explains Orey. “It should be real, raw, unprocessed and unheated. Unfiltered honey, straight from the hive, is the true ‘superfood’ nutritionists applaud.” And while most honeys contain natural antibacterial qualities, some varieties contain higher levels than others. For example, Manuka honey, a special type of honey harvested from bees that feed on tea tree plants, is unique in its ability to treat minor wounds and burns.

Quick TipSupercharge your green tea—and soothe a cough or cold—by adding 1 teaspoon each of buckwheat honey, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and cayenne. “During the creation of The Healing Powers of Chocolate, I noticed that honey, like chocolate, was noted in the Mediterranean diet—an underlying theme in my book series,” says author Cal Orey. “And that five-letter word—honey—stuck in my mind like a honeybee on a sunflower. What else could follow the class act of decadent chocolate?” For more info on The Healing Powers of Honey, visit calorey.com.

Intuitive Sensed Hiker-Dog Dilemma

By Cal Orey

Update: Recently, a boy and his dog m ade the news...  because they were MIA in the Sierra-and a storm was rolling in.
Off the phone networks for a bit, on deadline for my next book (yes, I predicted I would get the project), I couldn't help but use my intuition and dish my read for the thrill of it--and because I love dogs.
On my Facebook wall I posted many times--sharing my vivid images and gut instincts: I noted the duo was physically challenged; there may have been a bear (on a post interview this happened and the dog went into protective mode as I said my Aussie would do); in the video the dog looked like he had an issue, I said, on the "I Love Tahoe" site when the dog laid in the snow--found it odd--not a Siberian Husky and the words of its owner seemed off about it. I read the voice energy and sensed trouble ahead. I noted I saw they were likely stationary (which they were), the two would be found, okay... (Both predictions came true.)
While my posts got thumbs up on "I Love Tahoe" Facebook website, my concern went ignored on my page with 5000 followers. Go figure. I flunked math in college. So I don't get it. (I get more comments forecasting shakers on Coast to Coast AM; and even last month when I announced I was pregnant the amazing shake-up was off the charts from people who do not know me.)

Cal Orey Wow...Sensing the dog may have tried to protect him...something unexpected happened. Envisioning the two r OK but challenged.

This exchange below is a private message on Facebook with an intuitive friend--we both have sensed oncoming earthquakes in the SF Bay Area--many "hits." We sensed a bear...  And yes, an important point: the canine's paws were sore, dog whooped so the two did not go any farther. A blessing in disguise so the wayward boy and his dog could be found. And that's where "stationary" came into play and a remarkable rescue. i'm hoping the dog isn't hurt...but could be...
The story ended well. Actually, the morning the two were found, I googled the results "found alive" and the upbeat headlines popped up, showing me the outcome I predicted. After all, I am tagged "time frame girl" on one of phone psychic networks. Bottom line: The dog and boy survived. But I knew they would do just that. The end.
Motto: Bring a backup cell phone battery. Think about dire consequences before acting and flying solo with a canine companion.

*  *  *
So, exactly how in the world did I, a veteran author and natural Earth changes prognosticator, end up being a live part-time phone psychic anyhow?
Blame it on the Great Recession hit (yes, I predicted it). In the winter of 2010, I called a psychic (or 10) to ask, "When is a foreign rights check for my books coming--and how much?" The answers I got were zany, including "one million dollars"! I offered three realistic choices, "Choose one."  And that's when I called a psychic network manager and predicted: "I can do better."
After all, I thought, "Since I was 8, people have noticed my sensitive nature and uncanny sixth sense. After I penned the book 'The Man Who Predicts Earthquakes,' I began dishing out quake predictions on national radio shows. Reading people and the challenges that rock their world is no different."

And now I'm one of countless psychic adviser voices who charge by the minute to tune into people and be their personal Magic Eight Ball. (I've received hundreds of positive reviews. Also, I'm tagged as the "time frame" reader with dishes dates. Yes, I'm accurate about 80 percent of the time.

Tuning In to the Faraway Caller
No, I do not use incense, hold a crystal ball or provide spells. I'm often in the company of two sensitive dogs and one black cat (they relax me), and listening to alternative music when the phone rings. I am connected to a caller who is often sad, upset or confused. And, yes, this job can be stressful as well as rewarding. Think  healer.

Once I hear a voice, it sets the stage. Often I can pick up if the call is from the West Coast, South, Northeast, Canada, Trinidad, New Zealand or Australia. And it's not always the accents. It's my animal-like intuition that kicks in from the get go. But there's more ...

Hello, Mother Nature
I use the planets as a baseline, lunar cycles (emotions and calls soar during the New and Full Moon), and a tarot card to get an objective read, which often coincides with what I've picked up with my gut instinct. As a super-sensitive woman, I can predict callers' questions by tuning into their voice, energy and words.

I can also pick up why I'm being contacted, the age of a person, their sun sign (but sometimes I do ask; usually they end up being on the cusp of two signs). If I'm challenged by a skeptical caller, it can end up in a murky reading or a hang-up. It used to hurt my feelings, but nowadays, I sip chamomile tea until the next ring.

I can sense if the caller is sincere -- and then it's show time. Sometimes, the paranormal activity kind of cues I get send chills through my body. The caller feels it, too. That means that I tapped into their psyche and we connected, big-time.

I Can Feel Your Vibrations
Both my callers and I are often surprised that I know things, such as if he or she has a toothache or heartache. The most common problem I am faced with is unrequited love (one-sided romance) -- and it hurts. How do you say, "He or she isn't that much into you?" and/or "Move on for true happiness" -- especially when the caller has her ego wounded, fears being alone or is anxious about the unknown.

I do offer positive advice and words of preparedness for upcoming events (even if a caller can't see what I'm talking about yet). I tell it like it is because saying good things doesn't always bring good or accurate results. It's like saying, "A quake won't hit" when I'm looking at the USGS map, watching an aggressive swarm on an active fault, and the caller is located at the epicenter of a country in the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Fire, Earth, Water and Air Signs
Speaking of Earth elements, how do I know if a caller is a Fire, Earth, Water or Air sign? A fire sign is direct and intense, and if the topic is touchy, I can feel their heated emotions (my clavicle often aches). Earth signs are reserved, a bit shy and need a nudge to be real. I can pick up the vibe of passionate water signs' feelings and understand they want me to confirm what they know. And air signs are analytical, good communicators and have a sixth sense, but are hesitant to tune into their gut instincts.

Two days ago, a woman asked me if her sibling would survive a challenging surgical procedure. I strongly sensed "yes." Tonight, I got the answer. I was spot on. I signed on to take another call. I'm sensing the phone will ring within 15 minutes.

Oh, and if you're wondering why, if I'm so psychic, I didn't know when my book check was in the mail, the reason is this: Sometimes it can be tricky to get an accurate read on your own life. Psychic advisers frequently turn to their colleagues (or tarot cards) for an objective outlook, the way I look to the moon and planets to tell me what other people have in store.

There goes the phone, right on time. So, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll take that call.

My Dog's B-Day Would Have Been Next Week

Signs of Simon
My Soulmate with Paws
5-28-2003 - 10-23-2015 By Cal Orey

In a week, May 28, would be my Brittany's 13th birthday. Not one day goes by where memories of this canine do not pay me a visit. I miss my dog--but I am grateful for 12 1/2 years of an awesome dog-human bond--on the road and off at Lake Tahoe.
On October 23 a devastating challenge paid me an untimely visit. My senior dog, Simon, a beloved 12 1/2 year-old Brittany left my life. Due to an earthshaking diagnosis of dementia, a grim prognosis and the loss of a dear canine companion was an event I didn’t want to face. In retrospect, the signs to me were simply pesky aging but then it was clear to me that Simon was slipping away; gone in mind, body, and spirit…
My favorite movie as a kid was Old Yeller and its ending of a gripping boy and his dog tale took me back to my inner child. And I cried as the real-life story happened and left me with a bittersweet ending…

Today, I have no regrets. As I’m on the road to healing my broken heart it’s clear that Simon and I savored more than a decade together. We were bonded heart and soul each and every day. I am thankful for the wonderful days, months, years, and memories of this beautiful Brittany–both inside and outside. He was a dog to love. Letting go was the humane thing to do. No more suffering for my companion. But that’s not all…
Signs of Simon
In the past weeks I’ve received uncanny “signs” from my canine companion whom is on the other side. Some people do not believe we can communicate with the deceased.  Not so. And the stronger the animal-human bond, the more likely you, like me, will get signals from heaven…

* First, I was awakened by the reconnect dream. True, I couldn’t hold him, pet him, kiss him but I did see my boy and he was vibrant, happy, and healthy. I woke up to reality that Simon is gone but I was left in my bed (one where we slept together for 12 plus years) with a sense of calm.

* At a dermatologist’s office last week a physician’s assistant asked me if I had been crying when she looked at the puffy skin around my eyes; she sensed my pain from grief. When she left the room for a moment, the song Sounds of Silence filled the air in the room.  My eyes watered. After all, I named Simon after Simon and Garfunkel. Another connection.
* Last night when working the psychic network, I received a call while listening to more Simon and Garfunkel tunes. The caller’s date of birth May 28–the same day as my Simon’s birthday. It was another cue from the Hereafter.
* One week his collar in a basket continued to drop out onto the floor when I took my Aussie for a walk. He wanted to come with us--the pack.
* An indoor cactus plant I've had for two years, one day bloomed a single orange and white flower--it was a sign to me--and I see it each day.

Incidences, like these, have given me serenity. I needed to know there is life after death; to believe my canine is at peace; to sense that when I pass there is hope I will reconnect with this beautiful soul–a blessing, one of God’s creatures.

Life Goes On
The truth of the matter is, two-leggers and four-leggers grieve differently. My sibling misses Simon but tells me he was prepared as he watched his dear friend age. In retrospect, my cat Zen sensed Simon’s personality had morphed and it spooked him.  Nowadays, my cat almost has his zen-like balance back.    And my young Aussie? He is still a bit clingy. I sense he believes his best canine pal will walk into the home any time. But sadly, this will not happen. The void is still here in my home and my heart. But we all are getting by, getting past going through the motions, and living for the moment–as Simon did, as dogs do.
Each day gets easier, whereas instead of intrusive thoughts of the end days are overshadowed of the positive memories we shared. The fridge is graced with some of my favorite photos of Simon at his best; in each room there is a reminder, whether it be a framed Barnes and Noble poster, stuffed animal, plaque, or dog bed. His presence is still here. Yes, I remember Simon.  His spirit lives as life goes on.

How to Tune In to the Afterlife for You  * Quiet your mind and wait for messages to enter your thoughts * Look for signs: Falling objects, electric gadgets going haywire * Dates or numbers that coincide to the deceased * Remote writing of initials leading you to individual’s name * Hold onto a photo or possession of the deceased–or note if it moves to a different place

Healing Powers Series: Vinegar Stays Top Dog

By Cal Orey
Home in the mountains I'm in the zone working on Sunday, Mother's Day--like I am like a pregnant woman carrying the forthcoming tea book/ But VINEGAR, my first born, is on my mind, too. After all, The Healing Powers of Vinegar, 3rd edition is coming this summer! As the new, improved book is in production I see that the 2nd edition still grabs readers.

Today, on the Walmart website the VINEGAR book maintains it's page one status with the big boys in the diet and weight loss category. Ditto for Barnes and Noble website. Not to forget the e-book held #1 bestseller status in December. Categories? Healthy Cooking and other diet genres.

There is something about this book, this topic that continues to lure the health-conscious reader. And, of course, I admit vinegar is part of my life as are the other healing foods in the Healing Powers collection.

So, it was a busy weekend in Tea World. I've learned so much and blank pages are beginning to fill up like the tea pot I poured water into for a perfect cup of tea this afternoon.

I fantasize about taking a vacation to Canada early fall to celebrate the completion of TEA; and to book signings for the release of VINEGAR. An author's work is never done.  It's tea time and time for this one to cuddle up and take a break.

The Mercury Retrograde Roller Coaster

By Cal Orey

Welcome the Mercury retrograde period. Simply put, the planet Mercury is linked to communication, truth, and travel. That means when Mercury tends to go backwards or we enter a time when the planet goes into "retrograde" your life can feel like it goes topsy-turvy for a few weeks. Worse, it happens a couple times each year. Fasten your seat belt because we're in the period now which began April 29 and will end May 23. But it's not all bad despite the twists and turns. Read on...

A Few Ups...
* Find lost items. Did you lose a favorite possession? No worries. During this time span you may just find it again! The day before the 29th (the pre-shadow window) my missing cozy slipper (my Aussie doesn't like me to wear socks) magically popped up in the hall closet. I was doing the happy dance in two soft and cozy black leopard print colored slippers that the herding shepherd of my dreams can't remove.

* Hook up with people, pets and possessions of the past. Hello Simon! Yes, my beloved past pooch popped up on Facebook memories on April 29. I needed another visit from him. After all, he was my Rock of Gilbraltar. His timely presence helped me get through a pre-Mercury retrograde challenge of the week (the lost FedEx package--full of my page proofs for VINEGAR, 3rd edition--en route to my publisher; it was found and delivered two days before the 29th!)...

* Discover reality. Ever wonder if something that is going on is really the real deal? During this period clarity can shine through miscommunication. It's like a miracle. If you sense someone isn't giving you the real scoop, you may be right and things will be crystal clear like a reader using a crystal ball. And remember, this is a time your intuition (sixth sense) may be heightened so do tune in not out...

...And Downs
* Travel goes haywire. I never believed in a mix-up due to a planet effect until it happened to me. Last fall I missed my flight connection by two minutes! Yep, blame it on the Mercury retrograde. We were so close yet too far. Two hour delay.

* Computer woes. I must warn you. Do not, I repeat do not purchase a computer during this time of chaos linked to communication. I did it last year. Fast forward. I have not used the new laptop as of yet. Mega mistake. Remember mix-ups with purchases can and do happen this time.

* Do not sign anything of importance to you until after the period ends. If you do sign you may live to regret it because of a myriad of loopholes. Wait, please wait until the 24th of May. Oh, and then you're in the clear until the next Mercury Retrograde period--August 30-September 22.

BAD Foods Gone Good? Coffee...Chocolate...Fat... Oh My!

By Cal Orey
Healing Powers series Savors "bad" foods in moderation
for good health
Collection of Bad Foods Gone Good A few years ago, I was interviewed by someone whom is AWOL but here is part of our exchange that I just found on the Internet... Fun interview, fun foods...  SF– Coffee can heal me? I’m sold. What inspired you to write about healing foods? Every a.m. with a splash
of organic chocolate milk
Cal Orey– One snowy winter morning, while sipping java juice, I got an idea. (It’s true. Coffee boosts brainpower and the creative process.) I e-mailed my book editor with words that were short and sweet. “Just thinking a tea book to go with the honey book seems like it would work well.” He quickly responded,” I was thinking of a coffee book since coffee gets a bad rap. Is that a crazy idea?” I typed a one-liner answer, “Not at all. It was my second choice.” After all, during the creation of The Healing Powers of Chocolate, I included a chapter titled: “A Cuppa Coffee and Chocolat.” So, I wasn’t a stranger to coffee and its virtues. SF– How did you come to find out that these foods have healing properties? No wine for author but EVVO
paired with real butter
CO– I went to the go-to super food people—the folks percolating with information about the world’s favorite “new” health foods. I’ve conducted hundreds of exclusive interviews with medical doctors, researchers, and people in the industry: vinegar, olive oil, chocolate, honey, and coffee. It isn’t rocket science. I discovered quickly that Mother Nature’s folk medicine is today’s modern miracle! SF– I had a teacher once who made us drink apple cider vinegar if we coughed in her class. Was she trying to save us from the common cold, or keep us quiet? Care to comment? CO– She was from the old school of natural remedies. Apple cider vinegar may help in speeding recovery from a cold. Apple cider vinegar may help boost immunity and provide relief from cold and cough symptoms. The Vinegar Remedy to Use: Mix ½ cup of apple cider vinegar, ½ cup water, 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and 4 teaspoons of honey. Take 1 tablespoon when your cough starts up. Take another at bedtime. Voila! SF–  Olive oil has a million uses, doesn’t it?  Plus it’s one of those staples for so many cultures. It really is amazing stuff (and makes such a nice garlic sauce)!  What is your favorite use? Real butter, real sconesCO– While olive oil has been used for everything from health ailments to beauty and home, it’s the  fat I use in my heart-healthy Mediterranean diet and lifestyle. So, it’s sautéing vegetables in a bit of extra virgin olive oil (it’s chock-full of disease-fighting antioxidants) and teaming it with a bit of real butter topped on whole grain rice or pasta that helps energize me, and keep me lean. Combining the two fats dishes flavor and good-for-you satiety so it curbs cookie monster cravings.

SF– I was amazed to find out the benefits of fresh ground verses pre-ground coffee beans!CO– Coffee, especially freshly ground coffee from whole beans, boasts of an amazing antioxidant power. Two mighty antioxidants—chlorogenic acids and caffeic acid—are given credit for health benefits. Java boasts of other health-boosting antioxidants, including benzoic acids, cinnamic acids, flavonoids, and proanthocyanidins. Stacks of studies show that regular coffee drinkers may help lower their risk of developing cancers (female types, too), heart disease, diabetes, and other ailments. No doubt, coffee is healthy in a variety of ways, and credit is due to the variety of disease fighting antioxidants--and caffeine which can do a body good! and keep it regular. But note to pass on sugar, cream, extra flavorings, and the whip. Go for a cup of black coffee and/or with a splash of low-fat milk. SF– What is your favorite healing food?  Of course, on the other end, what about your favorite NOT healing food?
Tea with treats
CO– Tea. I absolutely am a devout tea drinker. True, a 12-ounce cup of coffee is on my morning schedule. But tea—black, green, chamomile—spiked with a taste of a super honey varietal like wildflower or tupelo makes my day and night complete. Not to forget a home-baked fresh fruit scone. I only eat super foods. If you look in my fridge, it’s stuffed with fresh seasonal fruits, vegetables, and Greek yogurt (high in fat but still has some good stuff in it). In my pantry, you’ll find fatty nuts, eggs, and cheese, too. Moderation for all. P.S. I forgot to mention the ice cream in the freezer (but it’s the premium, all-natural kind). SF– You are a foodie warrior! Mine is chocolate. Speaking of which, thanks for telling me how great it is for me. Chocolate Gelato? Oh yeahCO – Yes, chocolate known as Mother Natures’ “food of the gods” can help boost the immune system, lower the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes—even obesity! Chocolate is chock-full of mood enhancing ingredients, including phenylethylamine (the “love drug”) and feel-good serotonin. I like dark chocolate (if it's the gourmet kind). I do turn to white and milk types, too, if paired with fruits, herbs, and spices.
