North to Alaska...Tahoe Author Goes Out of Comfort Zone

Cal Orey

Here I sit on Saturday night in the comfort of a rustic cabin older than I am and I am filled with different emotions. Soon I will on my way to Alaska. This wasn't one of my fantasies, not really. Well, in my twenties I almost hitched and hiked to Homer but I ended up in other states and Canada...
In the past decades, I've written about Alaska--its earthquakes--and have forecasted shakers throughout the shaky state...and now? Now I am close to going there.

Go Somewhere Exciting
It began by a dare to go somewhere exciting. Once Barnes and Noble in Anchorage, Alaska invited me for a book signing it was a sign for me to go.
Why do people get excited and nervous before going on trips? Is it because we are going out of our comfort zone? Is it because we relinquish control to whatever is out there in the world? Is it because we leave our safe place? It's probably a combination of all of the novelty.

Traveling Solo Is Good for the Soul
But traveling is good for the soul. I notice a glow in my skin before I go--truly! Not so sure the dog and cat are glowing but they do not know yet that I will be leaving soon. The obstacle course has been completed: vet check for dog, cat; dentist, doctor...all done. We are healthy and getting the ducks in a row. Emails are coming from the airline, bookstore, nature tour and so it goes.
Two years ago this time I flew to Montreal and took a train to Quebec City...Decades ago I hitchhiked to Montreal and freaked from cultural shock but vowed to return and I did it. So this north to Alaska trip should be a walk in the park. Sort of.  No, I have not told the Aussie. I just don't have the heart to tell my better half we will be separated for a bit. But I did tell him no matter what I'll always be back for him and never leave him alone. That's a promise.

Author-Intuitive's 2016 Forecasts--Reality Check in Sweet September

By Cal Orey

Update: Today is September 13.  I was correct about Florida and the Atlantic Seaboard and a hurricane. Yes, the presidential pre-election games is craziness" off the charts.  Oklahoma did get a 5.7 last month and an offshore NorCal shaker hit, too. Alaska did get a widely felt major earthquake in January...
And the SF Bay Area (East Bay as predicted) rocked in August and today a shallow sharp jolt was widely felt and reported by residents. Man-made? On Friday night scientists put 500 seismographs along the Hayward Fault and plan to trigger tiny explosions in the next few weeks to simulate shakers and study...Meanwhile, a 3.5 jolts residents and Mother Nature! Not good. Full Moon on the 16th.

The year is not over... Take a look.  *I will be a News Segment guest on Coast to Coast AM tonight to dish on what's up next.

2016 FORECASTS
Welcome to a new year with new challenges around the world.  The year of 2016 will be chock-full of Earth changes, including shakers, wacky weather, and political craziness during climate chaos with global warming effects each continent, one by one, faces the wrath of Mother Nature’s surprises. When the Earth acts out as it will each season we often prepare for safety’s sake and peace of mind. But this time around mankind will create more unbalance during natural disasters and it may be even more unsettling. So to stay calm and on even keel we will be forced to be mindful as a new normalcy to survive. Take an up close peek at what I see happening for the New Year.

A Mixed Bag of Predictions for 2016·        Earthquakes * While we watched the San Andreas film, a great California earthquake didn’t happen in 2015 and shake the Golden state. But it will one day. The silence may be interrupted by a major tremor… in the southern state (near the coast or San Andreas), and/or San Francisco Bay Area (epicenter in the East Bay), or offshore Northern California near Eureka.
* An underwater earthquake may create a tsunami sequel near Japan and wreak more havoc on the country as well as the Pacific Ocean/West Coast from Alaska to Mexico—affecting the land and food chain.* A great quake like in 1964 may rock Alaska (near Anchorage) causing a West Coast big wave that’ll cause destruction in both the populated city and Washington, Oregon, and California.

·        Rain and Snow Events As the Earth rocks and rolls, the drought in Western United States will get relief from heavy rainfall up and down the coast. The fall 2015 welcomed snowfall in the Sierra-Nevada may continue through January, February, and March. Springtime flooding will affect the West Coast regions. Sacramento, California may endure a Katrina-type event due to its creaky levees not holding up after heavy rainfall. And note, if more than less snowfall arrives, avalanches, and spring/summer run-off will cause flooding to mudslides and earthquakes like it did in Bakersfield back in 1952. Some surreal-type events may surprise people in the Southwest and Gulf States, including historically warmer temperatures throughout the year, not to exclude flooding from different events.
·        Drought…Flooding…FamineWhile much-need precipitation is gracing the ground on the West Coast, freezes and droughts around the globe are creating lack of rivers which affects our crops and food supply. Read: Produce, coffee, chocolate, dairy products, and other foods will continue to increase in price, not to forget millions of people fall victim to famine and disease. Climate forecasters see dire changes in the future and 2016 will give more cues of a serious situation that’ll continue to affect people globally.
·        Tornadoes and HurricanesLack of water and too much of it can cause chaos, just as twisters can do. More than one newsworthy tornado this year will most likely hit in the Midwest; ground zero will be intense, especially if it hits a populated region. While 2015 experienced less than more hurricanes, the New Year may get its unfair share, too. The Gulf States, including Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and the Atlantic seaboard are potential targets (not to forget the West Coast near Southern California to the Baja)) may be facing fierce hurricanes with fierce water challenges.
·        On the FringeAs we deal with shaky ground and wild weather, offbeat events will be eye-opening. A strange UFO happening (perhaps from another planet) will get worldwide attention; it may occur in the Southwest or Mojave Desert.  An earthquake swarm (man-made due to fracking) may [cause] a major earthquake nearby. (It could be in the Midwest, not excluding Oklahoma like the 5.6 on November 5, 2011; it could trigger a major earthquake in the New Madrid Zone.)
In 2016, the media, weather forecasters and seismologists will forecast surreal “biblical” events but often times they will fizzle; only to be followed by sobering man-made chaos that’ll create Earth changes in different places nationally and globally.  Certain events will seem familiar because of repeat historical happenings, from floods to quakes. Despite the upheaval, as always, collective awareness will help humanity to bond on Earth while the strong survive as life goes on.
Spot-On 2015 Predictions
*Greece was rocked by an extremely shallow and destructive earthquake in the fall.* An autumn earthquake swarm in San Francisco Bay Area, California did occur but only a moderate widely felt shaker was the end result.  * The Pacific Northwest did get more rain than it has in the past few years which is a good thing due to the historic drought and wildfires.* A tsunami alert on the West Coast—from Alaska did happen as it has before in history. * In 2015, the year was like a sequel to the film The Day After Tomorrow with crazy climate—from South Carolina flooding to a historically warmer than normal fall in the Northeast.

Honey and Cinnamon--A Perfect Pair for Autumn

HONEY AND CINNAMON HEALTH BENEFITS By Cal Orey             Honey and cinnamon have a lot in common. Like honey, cinnamon’s healing powers since biblical times have been praised from folk medicine to modern day. Cinnamon’s powers can help prevent age-related diseases like cancer, heart disease, and obesity.             Cinnamon, like honey, contains antioxidants. Also, both functional foods are used for home cures. You’ll also discover both cinnamon and honey provide natural healing powers from head to toe.  Here, take a look at the real research behind the claims of this powerful duo.1 Arthritis:  Aches and pains from creaky cartilage and joints can wreak havoc on your lifestyle and well-being. While cinnamon is not a magic bullet to gaining flexibility and losing pain, it does contain anti-inflammatory compounds that may be beneficial in reducing pain and stiffness in muscles and joints. The Real Honey and Cinnamon Cure:  Try a cup of cinnamon tea teamed with a fresh cinnamon stick and a teaspoon of honey. You may get the pain relief from the anti-inflammatory compounds in cinnamon; and the honey (also with anti-inflammatory properties) will provide instant energy so you can do daily stretches (or even make love and that’ll provide relief of pain due to the feel-good endorphins). 2 Cholesterol: While pain isn’t fun, tallying up out of whack cholesterol numbers is no picnic either. Powerful phytochemicals in cinnamon can reduce blood sugar, as well as triglycerides (fat in your blood), total cholesterol, and LDL “bad” cholesterol in people with type 2 diabetes.  Team that with honey, which has no fat or cholesterol, and you may just be able to keep your cholesterol levels healthy. The Real Honey and Cinnamon Cure: Incorporating honey and cinnamon powder in your diet regime, which should be a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet. Also, if you are overweight, honey and cinnamon can help you to lose weight to keep your “good” HDL cholesterol numbers up. Don’t forget B vitamin-rich foods, such as vitamin B6 (fish with a honey glaze, smoothie with wheat germ and honey) and vitamin B12 (French toast with egg, milk, and honey and poultry with a honey glaze).3 Colds: If cinnamon and honey can help keep sugar levels steady, can it stave off catching a common cold? There are many home cure remedies that call for honey and cinnamon to help cure the common cold. Does it work? The combo cold-buster may help stave off catching a common cold as well as speed up your recovery due to its antibacterial and antiviral properties. But if you’re immune system has been compromised and you’re keeping company with someone who has a cold—cinnamon and honey may not be 100 percent effective. The Real Honey and Cinnamon Cure: Adding tea to your daily diet regime, especially antioxidant-rich green and black tea paired with honey and cinnamon can help you to keep your immune system strong so if you do catch a cold, you’ll be able to kick the virus faster. Immune System: Honey and cinnamon may be a useful cold-buster as well as bolster your immunity against the flu to cancer. The caveat: You need to also bolster your immunity in healthful ways, from a nutrient rich immune-boosting diet, exercise and practice a healthy lifestyle (i.e., distress and get adequate shuteye) to keep bugs and super bugs at bay.The Real Honey and Cinnamon Cure: Taking 1 to 2 teaspoons daily multiple times per week along with antioxidant-rich honey and cinnamon included in nutrient-rich meals can help bolster you immunity. Also, drink green tea and a teaspoon of honey (especially acacia and sunflower varieties) once or twice a day.4  Stomach Upset:  From hairless to queasy—can honey and cinnamon come to the rescue if your stomach is turning topsy-turvy? The sweetener and spice are tummy-friendly.  Cinnamon is a carminative—which simply means it can help relieve gas. If it works for you, no doctor or rat study should work against you and convince you to turn down the honey and cinnamon home cure because it may work for your ailment. The Real Honey and Cinnamon Cure: A hot cup of tea, such a ginger (which is proven to soothe an upset stomach or nausea), or low-fat milk with a teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder or a fresh stick can calm your nerves—and that may indeed help get rid of queasies.5  Weight Loss: Last but not the least mind boggling, can honey and cinnamon be the ticket to a lean body? Some folks say “yes” these two superfoods can help you to shed unwanted pounds ASAP. While I do believe both honey and cinnamon can help you to if you don’t exercise and do still overindulge in food—no a “Honey and Cinnamon Miracle Diet” will not work. Still, honey can help you to cut sweet cravings so if a sweet tooth is ruining your dieting efforts, honey can come to the rescue. Cinnamon adds flavor to foods, such as oatmeal, so you won’t be tempted to use high-fat butter or added sugars. The Real Honey and Cinnamon Cure: Each day, try drinking two cups of fat-burning green tea and cinnamon powder. Not only will the tea and cinnamon help rev up your metabolism, the honey will help give you energy so you’ll stick to physical exercise and burn more calories.             Whether you’re looking to get that loving feeling or fighting a cold, eating one cinnamon honey bun, like the in the following recipe, paired with a cup of hot herbal tea will make you feel good and just may help to follow through on battling your health woe and do its job. And there is always the chance that the aroma in your kitchen will rev up the romance in your life.

Cinnamon Honey Buns* * * ¼ cup butter or margarine, softened                          ½ cup honey, divided and divided                                                                  ½ cup chopped toasted nuts, optional 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon                                   1 pound frozen bread dough, thawed 2/3 cup raisins                                                             to package directions to package directions  Grease 12 muffin cups with 1 tablespoon butter. Ponderings...Leaving on a Jet Plane to Alaska

By Cal Orey

Today I realized that before I go away on trips that entail a book signing and adventure it's like being on an obstacle course. I always get the dog, cat, and myself a health check-up. I guess that's what a health author is expected to do.
And I always to the dentist. If you have ever seen "Castaway" it's a head's up to get a clean bill of dental health. You just never know where you may end up and having a bad toothache is the last thing you want to deal with. So now...everyone is healthy.

Alaska Adventure
I seem to have the "glow" before I goGetting there is an adventure in itself since there is no nonstop flight from here to there. So it will be a day/night before I make my way from Lake Tahoe to Anchorage. But that's okay. It's part of the fun, right? The good thing is, I'm not taking an early morning flight so I should be rested. And no, I haven't told the dog that mommy is going away for a short bit. I don't have the heart to do it.

Every time I look at Things To Do in Alaska I get lost. I really want to visit the fish aquarium but it's in Seward. I'm booked at an awesome hotel in Anchorage so staying in the smaller town doesn't seem practical.  The nature tour may suffice if I get to see a moose or two. But I really have this thing about fish.

Fall Time
I don't understand why I end of traveling during autumn, my favorite time when it's off season and the town is quiet, peaceful, it's a local's paradise. But I won't be gone too long so it's good.
Feeling excited about the change of seasons is on my mind but so is going out of the state to one state I've never been but now the timing is right.

Every day, whether it is in the morning or late at night I get images of Alaska but none of it seems real until I go. I suppose the biggest challenge is leaving my dog and cat--my two best friends. I know they'll be in good hands but it never gets any easier. So...until I get closer to the day I leave it's more wrapping up loose ends... and getting ready for autumn bliss when I return as a more seasoned traveler.

Cozy Up with Mediterranean Vegetable Soup for Pre-Fall

By Cal Orey

Soup’s on! On a cool day or night it is a perfect time for hearty vegetable soup. Think plenty of fresh, seasonal vegetables and wholesome stock for a chunky semi-homemade dish... Garlic and onions, carrots and celery—fresh tomatoes—with whole grain rotini makes a pot of soup on the stove top a crowd-pleaser as a comfort food in your bowl for lunch or dinner.             This recipe is inspired from my mother’s homemade vegetable soup. My version is like her batch but it’s meatless, fresh ingredients—except for the vegetable broth. Fast forward to present-day in the 21st century. After a trip to Canada, when I came home I was visited by a cold-flu bug. It was rest; juice; herbal tea, and vegetable soup that helped soothe the aches and cure sniffling. It was premium canned soup varieties I turned to, but vowed to make my own soup from scratch when I was back with the living. I hit the kitchen one afternoon. Using an all-natural organic store bought broth was amazing, especially with flavorful vinegar. Not only was it easy, the aroma in my cabin was sublime.

Mediterranean Vegetable Soup
* * *
½ tablespoon extra virgin olive oil or European style butter ¼ cup yellow onion 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped 1 carton (32 ounces) organic vegetable broth 2 cups mixed fresh vegetables, chopped (broccoli, cabbage, carrots, celery, green bell pepper, jicama, radish) 1 1/2 tablespoons red wine vinegar (Heinz Red Wine Vinegar) 1 teaspoon rice vinegar (Nakano Natural Rice Vinegar) 1 ½ cups uncooked whole grain rotini Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste ½ cup fresh spinach, chopped 5 Roma tomatoes, peeled, chopped ½ cup finely shredded Parmesan cheese (garnish) In a skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat, add onion and garlic. Sautee for a few minutes. Pour into a large pot. Add broth and bring to a boil. Add vegetables and vinegar. Bring to a bowl again then reduce heat to low. In another pot boil pasta for seven minutes until cooked. Add pasta and tomatoes to vegetable mixture. Stir in spinach. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Serve hot with sprinkled Parmesan cheese. A bowl of this soup pairs well with slices of a fresh, warm baguette. Serves six. I love this soup. A splash of vinegar gives it a nice tangy flavor. Not only is it easy to put together, it’s easy on the eyes and palate. It’s also time to blast soup myths: you can use fresh tomatoes; forget canned goods.  Some folks say broccoli and spinach in your soup can create a bitter taste. I disagree. Follow the broth box directions and do not dilute. Add any of your favorite fresh herbs for extra flavor. It’s not your mom’s soup—it’s fresh and whipped up quickly to maintain the good-for-you antioxidant-rich ingredients.

1 ALLERGIES (Stop seasonal misery): Dealing with annoying sneezing, a runny nose, and coughing is no picnic, thanks to seasonal pollen that visits in autumn. But honey may come to your rescue. What Honey Rx to Use:  Try eating a tablespoon of locally produced honey. Proponents of honey tell me that your immune system will get used to the local pollen in it (it should be within a 50-mile radius from where you live). Why You'll Bee Happy:  By taking the honey cure, you may lose your allergy symptoms. It's worth the effort and is less pricey than a visit to the doctor or an allergist. Honey may enhance the immune system to build up a better arsenal against airborne allergens--and help you breathe easier. Honeycomb may line the entire breathing tract.2 ANXIETY (Beat the jitters monster): When anxiety hits (often worsened by stress) you know it like when an earthquake strikes. Anxiety can wreak havoc on your nervous system and up your odds of experiencing heart disease, stress eating, and other health problems. Change is here and may cause restlessness: kids back to school, getting prepared for fall weather--indoors and outdoors. It's the novelty that can be exciting yet also may come with apprehension. What Honey Rx to Use: If you're under pressure and feeling high anxiety or sense a stressful event is in the works, make a cup of chamomile tea. Put in 1 teaspoon of your favorite honey. Repeat twice a day as needed. Why You'll Bee Happy:  Honey--all hundreds of varietals--is touted by folk medicine healers for its calming effects. The natural superfood can help sooth your nerves rather than put you in higher anxiety mode. The relief if provides may be due to its multiple vitamin B content--anti-stress vitamins.3  COUGH (Outfox irritating hacking):  A cough is another unwelcome visitor and can make you feel terrible. Let's face it, cough medicine can be pricey, doesn't taste good, and may or may not do its job. People are inside more during colder weather so you're exposed to more germs. What Honey Rx to Use:  A teaspoon of buckwheat honey is recommended before bed. Or you can make syrup of 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon honey, and 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar. Repeat each remedy as needed. Why You'll Bee Happy:  A group of Penn State College of Medicine researchers discovered that honey may be the cure. The findings showed that buckwheat honey at bedtime was more powerful for curing a cough in children than a cough suppressant found in over-the-counter medications. It is believed that honey will act as a sedative to the nervous system.4 ENERGY DRAIN (Beat low energy): Getting your cough under control is a good thing, but then what if your energy plummets?  Liquid gold may be the answer again. Sometimes, autumn can give you a boost of energy but honey can help, too! What Honey Rx to Use: Each morning include a teaspoon of bee pollen in your breakfast. Go ahead and take it solo. Or try The Honey Association's Energy Drink recipe:  ¼ pint orange juice, ¼ pint natural yogurt, 2 tablespoons clear honey. Place all the ingredients in a liquidizer and blend until smooth. Pour into two tall glasses. Serves two people. Why You'll Bee Happy: Honey is a source of natural unrefined sugars and carbohydrates, which are easily absorbed by the body. That means, you'll get a quick energy boost with long-lasting effects. Athletes include it in their daily diets. It was even used by runners at the Olympic Games in ancient Greece.5 HEADACHE (Bye-bye, pain): Fatigue and headaches are not to be taken with a grain of salt, because it can hurt oh, so bad. There are different types of headaches, and some kinds may benefit from the honey bee's gift. Sinus woes during fall pollen time isn't uncommon. What Honey Rx to Use:  One cup of tea with 1 teaspoon of honey (the darker the varietal the better) is the remedy. Repeat as needed. Also, drink plenty of water and relax. Why You'll Bee Happy:  "The way honey might work for tension headaches," says New York Headache Center's Alex Mauskop, M.D., "is by treating hypoglycemia, which can cause tension and migraines." He adds that some antioxidants can help prevent headaches, as can magnesium and vitamin B. So turning to antioxidant-rich honey may be a sweet remedy.6 INSOMNIA  (Find sweet dreams): Getting rid of a headache is a challenge, but not getting adequate shut-eye during the seasonal light changes can have long-term effects, too. What Rx to Use: Take 1 or 2 teaspoons of your favorite honey, especially before going to bed. Try sipping a cup of 2 percent low-fat milk with a dash of cinnamon. The tryptophan in milk will help to calm you.Why You'll Bee Happy:  It's a magic trick, according to The Honey Revolution author Ron Fessenden, M.D., providing needed glycogen to the liver so the brain doesn't go in search of extra fuel in the earl A.M. hours when you should be in Dreamland. "Consuming honey before bedtime also reduces the release of  adrenaline, a catecholamine that raises blood pressure and heart rate," adds the honey guru.7 SORE THROAT (Take the sting away): Not sleeping is miserable, but a sore throat can drag you down, too, where don't feel like walking or talking. Honey has been used as a home for centuries to help sooth one of the symptoms associated with a common cold--namely, a killer sore throat. September is a popular month for colds as fall arrives. What Honey Rx to Use:  For relief of symptoms, take a spoonful of your buckwheat honey, as often as you need, to relieve irritation. In between, sip a cup of tea with honey. Also, try pure honeycomb and honey sticks. Don't forget all-natural honey-lemon lozenges, which also coat the throat for quick relief. Why You'll Bee Happy: One, honey will coat your sore throat, the symptom of the cause. Two, the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties will help heal the culprit causing your pain.8 WAIST WHITTLER (Blast belly fat): Twitches to tummy bulge... if you have a bulging tummy, you'd probably consider a sore throat is easier to get rid of. But wait; there are things you can do to get a flat tummy. Comfort foods during the fall can pack on unwanted weight. What Honey Rx to Use:  Both morning and night, drink an 8-ounce glass or mug of tea (dandelion or parsley boasts diuretic effects), with a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar. Team this potion with grazing and watch your fat and sugar intake. Why You'll Bee Happy: Honey and apple cider vinegar contain the bloat-busting mineral potassium. Also, turning to honey will help you to eat fewer sugary treats and enjoy a flatter stomach.          So go ahead and use the type of honey advised or your own preference; all-natural, raw honey, dark varietals are recommended for best results. (Warning: To avoid infant botulism, do not fee honey to an infant.)

Confessions of a Part-Time Phone Psychic

By Cal Orey

I am a frequent News Segment Guest "Intuitive" on Coast to Coast AM... write an Earth Changes Forecast monthly column in Oracle 20-20 magazine... Relationships Quizzes in a Quizzical column each month...Have found lost pets, items, people... Penned horoscopes and animal-related columns for petplace.com  for people and pets...and yes, I can channel people on the other side. I worked for a variety of networks (often fired because I wasn't willing to keep down-and-out vulnerable callers--on disability, government assistance, jobless or left by a mate--on the phone for hours because they didn't have the funds).

So, exactly how in the world did I, a veteran author and natural Earth changes prognosticator, end up being a live part-time phone psychic anyhow?
Blame it on the Great Recession hit (yes, I predicted it). In the winter of 2010, I called a psychic (or 10) to ask, "When is a foreign rights check for my books coming--and how much?" The answers I got were zany, including "one million dollars"! I offered three realistic choices, "Choose one."  And that's when I called a psychic network manager and predicted: "I can do better."
After all, I thought, "Since I was 8, people have noticed my sensitive nature and uncanny sixth sense. After I penned the book 'The Man Who Predicts Earthquakes,' I began dishing out quake predictions on national radio shows. Reading people and the challenges that rock their world is no different."

And now I'm one of countless psychic adviser voices who charge by the minute to tune into people and be their personal Magic Eight Ball. (I've received hundreds of positive reviews. Also, I'm tagged as the "time frame" reader with dishes dates. Yes, I'm accurate about 80 percent of the time.

Tuning In to the Faraway Caller
No, I do not use incense, hold a crystal ball or provide spells. I'm often in the company of two sensitive dogs and one black cat (they relax me), and listening to alternative music when the phone rings. I am connected to a caller who is often sad, upset or confused. And, yes, this job can be stressful as well as rewarding. Think  healer.

Once I hear a voice, it sets the stage. Often I can pick up if the call is from the West Coast, South, Northeast, Canada, Trinidad, New Zealand or Australia. And it's not always the accents. It's my animal-like intuition that kicks in from the get go. But there's more ...

Hello, Mother Nature
I use the planets as a baseline, lunar cycles (emotions and calls soar during the New and Full Moon), and a tarot card to get an objective read, which often coincides with what I've picked up with my gut instinct. As a super-sensitive woman, I can predict callers' questions by tuning into their voice, energy and words.

I can also pick up why I'm being contacted, the age of a person, their sun sign (but sometimes I do ask; usually they end up being on the cusp of two signs). If I'm challenged by a skeptical caller, it can end up in a murky reading or a hang-up. It used to hurt my feelings, but nowadays, I sip chamomile tea until the next ring.

I can sense if the caller is sincere -- and then it's show time. Sometimes, the paranormal activity kind of cues I get send chills through my body. The caller feels it, too. That means that I tapped into their psyche and we connected, big-time.

I Can Feel Your Vibrations
Both my callers and I are often surprised that I know things, such as if he or she has a toothache or heartache. The most common problem I am faced with is unrequited love (one-sided romance) -- and it hurts. How do you say, "He or she isn't that much into you?" and/or "Move on for true happiness" -- especially when the caller has her ego wounded, fears being alone or is anxious about the unknown.

I do offer positive advice and words of preparedness for upcoming events (even if a caller can't see what I'm talking about yet). I tell it like it is because saying good things doesn't always bring good or accurate results. It's like saying, "A quake won't hit" when I'm looking at the USGS map, watching an aggressive swarm on an active fault, and the caller is located at the epicenter of a country in the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Fire, Earth, Water and Air Signs
Speaking of Earth elements, how do I know if a caller is a Fire, Earth, Water or Air sign? A fire sign is direct and intense, and if the topic is touchy, I can feel their heated emotions (my clavicle often aches). Earth signs are reserved, a bit shy and need a nudge to be real. I can pick up the vibe of passionate water signs' feelings and understand they want me to confirm what they know. And air signs are analytical, good communicators and have a sixth sense, but are hesitant to tune into their gut instincts.

Two days ago, a woman asked me if her sibling would survive a challenging surgical procedure. I strongly sensed "yes." Tonight, I got the answer. I was spot on. I signed on to take another call. I'm sensing the phone will ring within 15 minutes.

Oh, and if you're wondering why, if I'm so psychic, I didn't know when my book check was in the mail, the reason is this: Sometimes it can be tricky to get an accurate read on your own life. Psychic advisers frequently turn to their colleagues (or tarot cards) for an objective outlook, the way I look to the moon and planets to tell me what other people have in store.

There goes the phone, right on time. So, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll take that call.

An Author's Day in the Life: Dog Surgery, Quakes, Eulogy

By Cal Orey
Today was surreal. I feel like I was on a roller coaster from 7 AM to 11: 21 PM.  Let me count the twists and turns...

In the morning my beloved Aussie, 3 1/2 was whisked off to the vet for a dental check. I chose Plan B (a dental scale on one back molar, mild sedative)... Plan C upstaged my wish. Skyler got his second (first when neutered before 1 yrs. old) dental scaling and one extraction. So, pup survives and now has 41 teeth. (This saddens me because I was with him when he lost his baby teeth.) But I'm happy that it was taken care of, passed the pre-surgery tests and is home asleep...

Cat...Zen taken in for a dental check. Holding his own and doing okay for a middle-aged Siamese-mix with a predisposition for gingivitis. No surgery. Cat sleeps. I sit here still pondering the day's challenges.

My right arm heals from straining a muscle when the dog walker had a stare down with Skye and I tried to get everything under control. Day 10 and almost back to normal. My arm. Note to dog walkers: Do not play the stare-down game with a pooch.

Moving on to the call from a producer from Coast to Coast AM... I was the News Segment Guest... An impromptu eulogy one month after geologist Jim Berkland's passing. Ironically, today is the day of a catastrophic earthquake that happened in the man's primary seismic window, 7 days after the Full Moon. Yes, even on the other side his theories work and he is the man. Bless the people who are challenged by the devastating earthquake. Oddly, one month ago I purchased a wall divider of Rome...

And in The Man Who Predicts Earthquakes notes of a potential major quake in 2015-2016...and the book was written a decade ago.

What's more, I made a forecast that Anchorage, AK would be hit by a major plus quake in 2016...and I am booked for a book signing next month. It's time to sleep... The pup and kitty have the right idea.

Major Italy Quake Hit in Geologist's Seismic Window

Cal Orey Update:  August 24, 2016 a major catastrophic global earthquake hit near Rome, in central Italy--greatly affecting  the ancient town of Amatrice -- early in the morning. This earthquake happened 7 days after the Full Moon on August 18 (in the late geologist Jim Berkland's primary seismic window).

Geologist's Theories Validated Days Before Death

Days before the unconventional American scientist's passing, national news headlines read:
"Some earthquakes on San Andreas fault are triggered by gravitational tug of of sun and moon" -- In a new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences researchers claimed there is a link to the moon/sun/tides and earthquakes, including the San Andreas Fault Zone.

This theory is exactly what Jim Berkland, the "maverick geologist" (who predicted the SF quake that hit near the SAF on October 17, 1989 ) had been saying for decades... He was right, after all. He made a difference. His theories are immortalized.
After dozens of attempts with the "editors"  on wikipedia my words updating his theories remain on the website.
He was like a surrogate father to me: a man who loved nature, swimming, dogs, and traveling on book tours.
I miss him... and will not forget our last conversation. I knew I was losing my dear friend... For more than three decades we bonded through articles and a book I wrote about him. The time was fading as the man's time left on Earth. And I cried.
