Peel your heart like a pomegranate.
Offer it to him, palms outwards.
Say “eat.”
Watch him come away
stained red by you.
You’re in his teeth.
He’ll kiss you with that mouth.

"sparrow woman plucks rain from her hair, drip-drop, cross-legged blister-fingers on top of the bed..."
sparrow woman plucks rain from her hair, drip-drop, cross-legged blister-fingers on top of the bed in a room outside time.
maybe the plums here mean something but their fleshy mouths spit all over silence and sparrow woman laughs. folds my hands over the candle in her throat, knows a universe can’t explode more than once in a while. moves just to feel light spark about, knows how to shove the red haze through clouds.
sparrow woman plucks leaves from my wrist, pit-a-pat bare-feet on linen. maybe the yellow glow here means something but outside time, it’s not heavy enough to press me to the ground.
sparrow woman laughs, walks fingers up my back. says i shouldn’t forget who to call home. shouldn’t run rabbit-furred if i’d prefer to bury my bone. sitting thigh to thigh, tender still churns the same wrong. says, you gotta be soft sometimes, or they’ll forget you’re raw-strong.
