Review Of Blockchain Revolution By Don And Alex Tapscott
Blockchain Revolution: How the Technology Behind Bitcoin Is Changing Money, Business and the World by Don Tapscott and Alex Tapscott, Portfolio Penguin/Random House, 2016
This 348-page panoramic view shows how fintech is disrupting traditional finance and how bitcoin’s underlying blockchain technology is changing the global economy. If you are in an incumbent bank, insurance company, pension fund or managing assets, Blockchain Revolution: How the Technology Behind Bitcoin Is Changing Money, Business and the World is required reading. Co-authors Don and Alex Tapscott are deeply knowledgeable, based on Don Tapscott’s Wikinomics (2006) and Macrowikinomics (2010), while Alex Tapscott is CEO of Northwest Passage Ventures, a former investment banker now advising and building blockchain companies. His 2014 report on governing digital currencies for the Global Solutions Network was published by the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Blockchain, unblocked: its implications for enterprise computing
Is blockchain poised to forever change the way we approach computing? Or is it something that will remain associated with cryptocurrency?
Don Tapscott sees blockchain as something huge and pervasive. In a recent interview hosted and posted by McKinsey & Company, Tapscott, coauthor of Blockchain Revolution: How the Technology Behind Bitcoin is Changing Money, Business, and the World, suggests it will change the world — in ways never envisioned as the Internet developed.
What blockchain — a global online database or ledger — offers, he says, is a “trust protocol” that enables peer-to-peer sharing of value or information for any range of business activity. These days, such interactions require some kind of governing entity to provide that trust. Blockchain, on the other hand, represents a global database that is run by everyone but is not beholden to anyone. “Think of a giant, global spreadsheet that runs on millions and millions of computers,” Tapscott says, making it essentially, “an immutable, unhackable distributed database of digital assets.”

Blockchain Revolution review – Satoshi Nakamoto’s world-changing innovation
Blockchain, the increasingly celebrated peer-to-peer data technology, is the basis of bitcoin and has huge potential – will it be as big as the web?
Proposed in 2008 and launched the following year, bitcoin – a “peer-to-peer electronic cash system” – was initially viewed by many as the preserve of geeks and criminals. Yet it has subsequently taken giant strides towards the mainstream. There have been various high-profile attempts to unmask the “real” Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonym used by bitcoin’s inventor(s). And in the immediate aftermath of the Brexit vote, some hailed bitcoin, surging as the pound plummeted, as “digital gold”.
It is now recognised that the still-mysterious Nakamoto did more than invent a currency. He also solved a longstanding problem in computing, to do with date and networks. His solution was complex, but it involved the use of an infrastructure comprising “blocks” of confirmed transactions that form a chronologically linked “chain”. As other digital currencies, and other blockchains, have emerged, banks and some governments have begun to pay attention, and investment is rocketing. The World Economic Forum predicts that, within a decade, 10% of global GDP could be stored on blockchains.

Here’s Europe’s Answer to the Mess That Brexit Left
It’s time for a digital euro.
Don Tapscott and his son Alex Tapscott are authors of the book, Blockchain Revolution: How the Technology Behind Bitcoin is Changing Money, Business and the World.
While the UK and the world grapple with the implications of last week’s vote, a technological revolution is quietly unfolding that offers a glimmer of hope, not just to Britain, but also to Europe as a whole.
We’re not talking about the social web, cloud computing, or artificial intelligence. We’re talking about the blockchain, the technology underlying cryptocurrencies like bitcoin. This technology represents nothing less than the second era of the Internet and it holds far-reaching opportunities for Europe. If wielded correctly, it could provide the foundation for a more prosperous Europe. It is also the UK’s best hope at fulfilling the “Leavers” lofty promises of a more global and dynamic Britain.

How the Technology Behind Bitcoin Is Changing Money, Business, and the World
Steve Wozniak calls it “mind-blowing in its expansiveness and profundity.” Clay Christensen says it’s “Likely to become one of the iconic books of our time.” And The Financial Times calls it “a thorough, balanced, and enlightening guide to the next big thing.”
The book is Blockchain Revolution: How the Technology Behind Bitcoin Is Changing Money, Business, and the World (May 2016) by Don Tapscott and Alex Tapscott. And the revolution it touts is one made possible by blockchain, the digital ledger technology behind bitcoin that’s making transactions instant, secure, and resistant to fraud.
Don Tapscott (author of Wikinomics, The Digital Economy, and more) has teamed up with his son Alex Tapscott (CEO and founder of a VC firm specializing in blockchain companies) to envision the vast potential of a technology we’ve only begun to explore. They sat down with the Center to share their insights.

Tapscott on Blockchain: This Is About to Change the World
There is a revolution coming, and according to Don Tapscott, it’s going to dramatically change how the world operates. In his new book ‘Blockchain Revolution,’ Tapscott says blockchain, the underlying technology of bitcoin, represents the second generation of the internet. In an interview with Bloomberg TV Canada, he tells host Amanda Lang how blockchain enables us to send money directly and safely from me to you, without going through a bank, credit card company or government. Don Tapscott warns businesses the future is blockchain or bust
A new digital revolution is coming, and businesses need to adapt or risk becoming obsolete, Canadian technology author Don Tapscott told an audience during the 2016 Gartner CIO & IT Executive Summit on June 15.
Led by innovations such as Bitcoin, blockchains are rapidly transforming the Internet from an information-based platform to one based on value, he said – and this second era is going to affect the business world as profoundly as the first, if not more.
