My typical writing day, COVID style
Ever wonder how writing processes have changed with COVID? My kid is home from school these days (curse you, pandemic!) so this is now my typical writing day, COVID style…
Early Morning – Our family consists of me, my husband Matt and our son Max. At some wee hour, my son slams the door open and says “Uppie!” This is his way of saying “get up already!” From there, my husband and I switch off who watches our son… and who does their respective day jobs. My husband works from an office in the basement. I write in a pair of places: one, the orange couch downstairs; or two, in bed where I am surrounded by an obnoxious amount of pillows. Ah, pillows.
Morning-Morning – I make my son breakfast and check the basics of my writing business, such as my sales numbers and social media stuff. Mostly I field questions from my son about cookies, namely where are the cookies? When can I have some more cookies? Sometimes rice krispie bars are also mentioned.
Note: my son is fifteen and has a diagnosis on the autism spectrum. Although he isn’t super verbal, he has many ways of making his needs known. For instance, he can use sign language to ask for a cookie like a pro.
Late Morning – My husband and son go on a walk. Writing time!
Afternoon – Distance learning with my husband and son. This involves Zoom video calls and lots of cheering on. When we aren’t distance learning, there are more cookie requests.
Dinner – The fam goes on a car ride for take out.
Post Dinner – My husband and son go to the park. Writing time, part two! Sometimes I write all night, but I’ve been trying to avoid that lately. After all, a good night’s sleep is a great way to stay healthy.
So there you have it: my writing day during the era of COVID. Bottom line? It involves sharing the couch as well as a shocking amount of cookies. See action pic below.
