My Top 10 Books to Movies
It’s a top 10 list kind of day! Here’s one for books to movies…
Number Ten. Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. The 1995 movie is a treat.
Number Nine. The Right Stuff by Tom Wolfe. This 1983 movie adaptation is a classic.
Number Eight. The Godfather by Mario Puzo. The entire trilogy is fab, but I love the first film by Francis Ford Coppola.
Number Seven. Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. The film adaptation is called Blade Runner.
Number Six. The Untouchables written by Eliot Ness and Oscar Fraley. The 1998 movie is stellar.
Number Five. Das Boot, written by Lothar-Guenther Buchheim. I suggest the two-hour film version by director Wolfgang Petersen.
Number Four. Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper. I adore the 1992 film with actor Daniel Day Lewis. Swoon!
Number Three. Jane Eyre written by Charlotte Bronte. Don’t miss the 1943 version with actor Orson Welles.
Number Two. Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen. Suggest the 1995 version produced by the BBC.
Number One. Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien. Peter Jackson’s movie trilogy for the win!

Long live the me! As Queen of Antrum, I rule an underground realm of demon hunters who love finding new caves. Hey, it’s boring down here; I’m glad they all have a hobby. Per usual, I try to act interested about their latest discovery, but all I hear is blah blah blah new cavern blah blah blah Forbidden Tombs blah blah blah massive bronze pyramids blah blah blah creepy ticking sounds. It’s a little odd, but I’m not worried.
My bad.
Suddenly, the Forbidden Tombs burst through the ground in my home realm of Purgatory. Bronze pyramids smash through abandoned buildings and highways, making rush hour a nightmare. Even worse, the metal structures attract tiny lightning bolts called igni, which are my very special supernatural buddies. Within minutes, every last igni gets stolen away.
Now. I’m. Pissed.
Whoever hides inside those pyramids? Time to dust off your mummies and shine up your sarcophagi. Because my husband, Lincoln, and I are breaking in and kicking ass.

My CLOCKWORK IGNI Playlist
As part of the launch for my new book, CLOCKWORK IGNI, the lovely folks at Live Well, Be Fabulous asked me to blog on any topic I want. As a result, I’m about to share the playlist I obsessed about while writing this book.

Tune 1: Theme Song to the movie, The Untouchables
A classic by composer Ennio Morricone. To me, this piece is all about the joy of achieving the impossible. It’s great for keeping me motivated (and writing) at 2 a.m.
Tune 2: On Earth As It Is In Heaven from the movie, The Mission
This is another gorgeous piece of music from composer Ennio Morricone. In my opinion, the movie is about the convergence of different cultures, and how disparate sources can merge into an incongruous whole. There are three narrative threads in CLOCKWORK IGNI, so this music helped me picture what I was trying to achieve.
Tune 3: The Payoff from the movie, Patton
Oh, how I love a good World War II epic film! Patton is one of the best. This song encapsulates how Patton overcomes adversity to win in the end. Great for writing my final big battle scenes! An inspiring piece by composer Jerry Goldsmith.
Tune 4: Selections from the movie trilogy, Lord of the Rings
What isn’t there to love about the operatic music to the Lord of the Rings movies? The score relates drama, heartache, and triumph on a regal scale. There really is nothing better to write fantasy by. And composer Howard Shore gives everything an operatic bend that works perfectly.
Tune 5: Now We Are Free from the movie, Gladiator
An inspirational classic! Composer Hans Zimmer and singer Lisa Gerrard create a truly breathtaking piece. Makes me want to go out and fight in the arena myself!
