Halloween Hijinks

It's October! Harvest time, my garden is harvested, and I am pleased with the results since it's my first one in about 20 years. I was even able to get a few cantaloups and several pie pumpkins. I didn't grow any carving pumpkins because I live out in the country and don't get trick or treaters. But enough about that. I love Halloween, and I am happy to offer you a free copy of Halloween Hijinks at Bookfunnel.

This is Paige Bishop Mystery short featuring Paige's adopted daughter Brooke.

Brooke loves Halloween, what six-year-old doesn't? The businesses in the paranormal town of Mustang Valley go the extra mile to put up displays on Main Street. Brooke is loving the displays, especially the one in front of her adopted Great Aunt Jody's occult shop. Until someone starts messing with the displays. Someone is moving items from one display to another. What's weird is that it's happening during the day, on Main Street, the busiest street in town and nobody sees it happening. This is a mystery that Brooke is determined to solve. It has to be magic, right?

Explosive Fourth goes live!

Explosive Fourth, book 2 in the Paige Bishop Mysteries goes live September 10!

It is available for pre-order by following this link.

https://books2read.com/explosivefourth

It's the Fourth of July and Mustang Valley has a whole week of events planned to celebrate. Paige and her son, Marc, are looking forward to watching and participating in the events. When Paige's ex-husband, Marc's estranged father, shows up with his six-year-old daughter, Brooke, claiming his wife is dead neither of them are happy about it. Marc decides to make the best of it and get to know his half-sister. It soon becomes clear to both Paige and Marc that Jason is hiding or running from something, but he isn't talking. When a body is found Marc and his friends are sure that Jason is being framed. The evidence pointing to Jason can be explained away, but he also has a motive. With the help of Paige, Jessie and his friends, can Marc prove his father is innocent?

A Funny Thing Happened

I went through, rewrote the finished chapters, and thought I was happy with them. Well, I was happy with the rewrite. A funny thing happened; my characters were not happy with the story. They kept coming into my thoughts saying "this won't work, I want to do that, I wouldn't do that. Really? Who is the victim? Why haven't you given him a name and occupation?" You know, stuff like that. I finally listened to them and went back through everything and made those changes. Of course, this set back advancement on chapter numbers again so I'm only chapter 16. I'm getting there and I am determined to have a good book for you all to read. A book I'm happy with and my characters are happy with.

This month, August 2 through August 30 I have a coupon on Smash Words for a free ebook copy of Wilde Accusation. There are only 10 coupons available. Get your free copy now!

Garden, Weeds, and Procrastination

I know my blog is late this month, very late, and I apologize.

You might ask, "So, what have you been doing if you haven't been writing?"

This year, I decided I wanted a vegetable garden, I haven't had one for quite a few years. Of course, I decided too late to start the plants indoors, so I prepared some containers and tilled up a small spot in the yard. I planted seeds in the containers and the garden spot (it has big stuff like corn and squash), I didn't get the seeds into the ground until late May and early June so I'm kind of pushing it with them maturing. But I've been babying my seedlings and I'm hopeful.

I also discovered a weed that I have never seen before, it looks like a vine, but it doesn't climb. It just grows out over the ground. It also kills every plant in its path. There is a large area of it, so I have been pulling it out. I have a large pile but still have a lot to go. I'm hoping to finish that project today. When I'm done, I will have to plant something there so it doesn't fill up with weeds. Maybe a flower garden, maybe grass. I'm not sure right now.

Even though these projects need to be done, they are a form of procrastination. I need to rewrite all of the chapters I have finished so I can continue because I decided I didn't like where the story was going and changed enough that a lot of changes are needed. I was going to have to do rewrites anyway but the thought of all of the chapters before I was ready caused me to put it off. The thing is I want to finish the book and publish it. It was just easier to find other things that needed my attention.

It turns out, all I had to do was turn on my laptop and open the manuscript. I have finished Chapter 1 and am working on the rewrite for Chapter 2. It's slow going because I am reading everything and making any change that improves it, not just the changes I need to make. Less to do later. I hope I can keep the momentum going.

I hope you have a great day, week, month,

Tammy

Writer's Block

As far as I know every writer experiences writer's block at least once. I can tell you it's very frustrating.

For the last week I have been staring at my laptop screen. I'm a quarter of the way through chapter 6 and stuck. Oh, I know what is going to happen. The problem is who does it and how it is done is eluding me.

I have found that outlining each chapter doesn't work for me, the characters seem to take the story in their own direction than where I wanted it to go. So now, I guess I'm stuck until they decide what they want to do.

Along with not knowing the who and how of the action, I also want to get a clue or red herring in the chapter. I'm not sure what that will be. I know it will come to me after I get past this block.

Perhaps I'll do some research and see if I can find a resolution to my writer's block. There's bound to be some suggestions on the internet.

Wishing you a good day,

Tammy

Not So Joyous

Not so joyous
There are many joys to living in the country. This isn't one of them. We had a couple of weeks this month (February) with below zero temperatures and a pipe in my well broke. This caused the well to flood. So now that we have temperatures in the 40s and 50s I can get my son to fix my well.

What have you been doing for water, you might ask. I have a friend that lives up the road from me and she has graciously been bringing me water to clean with and my granddaughter has been supplying me with drinking water.

It has been very inconvenient, but I'm sure I will find it useful to use in a book at some point, since my series is set in rural Montana and Paige lives on a farm.
