It’s also interesting in a historical context as this was during a time when the Vikings were expanding and had a great deal of contact with peoples on other continents-which is how Harald Bluetooth ended up a Christian in the first place.

In fact, the only 100% confirmed pre-Columbian Viking Settlement in the Americas at L’Anse aux Meadows dates only 50 or so years later.

This Norsified version of Christ resembles Byzantine and Coptic Christian images moreso than those from other parts of the world.

But at this time, Jesus was more or less consistently depicted as a person of color regardless of where the art was made. Christs from Belgium were looking like this:

Growing up, my most fond memories was visiting abandoned places with my brother.  To this day, if opportunity presents itself, I bring my camera and take a few pictures.  These are not my work ofcourse, but I hope you enjoy the visual beauty and maybe it brings fond memories of your own adventures.

I cannot think of any reason to kill a Lion. You don’t eat it. It’s a waste.

I wonder if she’s related to that other Bachman lunatic, Michele.

I’ve been working on a game for a while called Dead Century. It’s sort of an Indiana-Jonesy adventure Puzzle/RPG concoction. I think it’s clear to everyone at this point that women, people of color, and queer people of all sorts are represented pretty poorly in modern video games. To that end, I’m making an effort to “be the change” I want to see. The biggest example being that the player can choose from three different appearances for each of their characters, each with a different gender and ethnic background. It’s mostly a cosmetic difference but it’s my little contribution to what I hope will soon become a larger thing in the video game world. Oh there are also some gay kisses and badass ladies.

Anyway, if that sounds like a good idea, you can check it out here or just retumbl, which is free!

Dear humans, please help Kickstart my friend’s queer inclusive (among many other things) video game! Be the change and show the world that there is a demand for games that are inclusive!

I will back this when I’m on a proper computer, but for now a reblog from the phone will do. This sounds fantastic.

Jett Smith and The Alien Grave, by Andy Orr & J.L. Erwin.

Jett Smith and The Alien Grave, by Andy Orr & J.L. Erwin.:

So I wrote this whole spiel praising Andy Orr (who’s a great fella in real life) and his talent and knack for writing, but somehow Tumblr deleted it. So here’s all you need to know: this book is YA sci-fi, set on Mars in the future, and it’s great. Andy Orr is someone I’ve known for a long time, and this is his first novel, so come grab it for free for your Kindle, or if you prefer paperback, the physical version is $8.99. It’s win-win either way.
