#15 in YA Fantasy & Magic
Making an amazon Best Seller list is one of those defining moments in a writer's career.
During free promo days, Entangled hit #1 in children's Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Magic and reached the Top 10 list in ALL categories (#7).
Reaching #15 in the paid store for Children's Fantasy & Magic this afternoon marks a new and exciting milestone.
I am so grateful for the early reviewers who took a chance on a debut indie author.
I think most writers have a select handful of friends and family who are genuinely excited about their book. To find people who have never met you and want to read your book for the pure pleasure of it gives me the warm fuzzies.
With thanks to all the wonderful readers around the world.
xoxo, Nikki

Research!
Spellbound #3 "Enchantment" takes place in Spain (and later France).
Sebastien said "no" to a research trip to Barcelona. Apparently no time off + no money = no Spain.
Today I picked up my 3 inter library loans (the max allowed): CultureShock! Spain, Iberia, and an Olympic Death by Manuel Vazquz Montalban (set in Barcelona).
I plan to re-watch Woody Allen's "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" along with one of my favorite French films (along with "Amelie"): The Spanish Apartment.
...maybe even learn some conversational Spanish to get in the mood. :)
¡adiós!

Spellbound #3 in the Works
After being laid off at Christmas (winter is a rough month for many of us islanders when commerce slows to a crawl), I was given my job back this week. Great for filling my empty pockets, not so great for writing productivity.
I became so entranced by S3: Enchantment, I didn't notice the time and was late for my first day back. On the way to work I almost ran off the road into a ditch because a scene was still playing out in my head. (Occupational hazard.)
I'll just have to carve out time where I can. After a physically demanding day, taking the dog out for his hike and cooking dinner it's hard to be up for anything other than a bit of pleasure reading before bed, though.
Speaking of which... 'Night! :)

Upcoming Cover Reveal
At this moment, I am finalizing the cover of S2: Duplicity with my cover artist Najla Qamber. Crazy about it! I’m especially happy with how the look of the series matches: same model, different flower, and new color cast.
The book trailer for S2 is also being finalized this week so I’m planning a dual release (fits with the title, right?)
If you are a blogger interested in the first sneak peek to include in a Cover Reveal, contact me at nikki_jefford(at)hotmail(dot)com. If you’ve already reviewed Entangled (and we’ve been in email contact previously), I will automatically send the reveals to you at the end of the week.
Duplicity Update: I jumped the gun on the cover and trailer this time. What I mean is I’m just now finishing the book. The storyline exceeded my expectations enough that I wanted to celebrate by putting in my cover and trailer order.
Releases next month.
Thanks to the friends and readers for the enthusiasm that motivated me to up the ante and take the series to the next level. I didn’t think it could get any more twisted than Entangled, but you inspired me to go for it and I couldn’t be more pleased by the outcome.

Spellbound #2 Cover + Trailer Coming
I put in my order with the talented Najla Qamber to design Spellbound #2: Duplicity.
This morning I watched the rough draft of the book trailer and was overcome with a giddy sense of elation.
These things never come out perfect or even close to perfect the first time around.
Yesterday the book trailer was a disaster - namely the music. I thought the soundtrack was awesome. It WAS awesome, it just didn't jive with the script or images.
Then I found the perfect (for real this time) melody. Haunting. Chilling. Heck, yeah!
I can't wait to share.

Spellbound #2 Close to Completion
Duplicity is coming along – draft one nearing completion. (Squeal!)
My favorite scene so far is when Adrian performs a memory wipe on Lee (aka: Graylee Perez).
As in the first book, Entangled, a memory wipe doesn’t take effect until all six candles burn out so Lee has a short amount of time before she loses what she knows.
A snippet:
Lee’s shoulder slammed against the door as Adrian screeched around a corner, accelerated down a dark road and dove into an alleyway. Lee’s arms flailed as she tried to grip a handlebar - anything to steady herself. She jolted forward when Adrian slammed on the break.
Concrete walls boxed them in from either side. Lee’s seatbelt clicked open at the same time as Adrian’s. She met his stare and shuddered. Anger and lust twisted what remained of his composure.
Lee grasped for the door handle. It wasn’t locked, as she’d expected, but as she pushed the car door open, Adrian caught hold of her calve. The door shut and this time it remained firmly locked. His fingers slid up her boot until they touched bare skin. Goosebumps jumped over Lee’s flesh. She slapped at Adrian’s hand and he removed it, but not before flashing her the Cheshire grin. “You’ve got two choices, Lee. I can take you home or we can get cozy in this alley. I’m hoping you’ll consider the alley. Just imagine the things we could do together. And you needn’t burden yourself with the guilt about going behind your boyfriend’s back once your memory flickers out with the candles in my shop.”
