Dream Comes True – My Books at Powell’s Bookstore

Pirate's Honor at Powell's BookstoreIt’s always been my dream to have my books selling at Powell’s Bookstore in Portland, OR. If you’ve never been there, you MUST go if you’re ever in Portland. Not content with one large room of books, Powell’s is a maze of rooms, color-coded for genre. Cook books, near the entrance. Fantasy/sci fi—up the stairs and ramp and to the right. Travel and languages—up farther. You name it, they’ve got it. You can literally make a day of browsing. So, how excited was I to walk in and see Pirate’s...

Great Gaming at Paizo Con

James Sutter and Chris at Paizo Con book stand, sold out of Pirate's Honor

James Sutter and Chris – Note: bookrack is sold out of Pirate’s Honor

Paizo Con ice goblinWhat a ball we had this weekend! Gaming is always fun, and when you get 700 gamers together for a weekend, be prepared to have a blast. This was our first time at Paizo Con. I participated in a few panels, attended others, and signed a bunch of copies of Pirate’s Honor. A highlight was meeting the Paizo folks themselves, a warm and wonderful group of people with whom I’m proud to be associated. It was especially great to...

Weapon of Blood Is Now Available!

Weapon of Blood coverI am pleased to announce that Weapon of Blood, sequel to the award-winning Weapon of Flesh, is out in Kindle format, so far, with additional vendors and formats underway. Since I’m literally sitting here at 4 am, waiting for my ride to the airport for our looong flight from Trinidad to Seattle, I’ll keep this brief. Weapon of Blood is currently available at Amazon.com and several of their international affiliates. It will be up for Nook and Kobo later this week, and the paperback will be...

Next Big Thing

What is the working title of your next book?

Weapon of Blood coverI am always working on more than one project, but since this question stipulates my “next” book, I’ll jump ahead a little. I am currently finishing up the final edits on the long-awaited sequel to Weapon of Flesh, a fantasy novel I published in 2005. Always our best-seller at conventions, Weapon of Flesh took off like gangbusters this year on Kindle, giving me incentive to finally write the sequel, Weapon of Blood, which should be ready for rele...

Brilliant Idea for a Visually Oriented Cookbook

In fiction, it’s the twists and turns in a plot that can make an old idea stimulating. This apparently applies to cookbooks, too. Check out this article on NPR. It’s about a woman who, while listening to a friend tell her how to make eggplant parmesan, sketched out the steps instead of writing them down (not surprisingly, she’s a visual designer by trade). It makes for a brilliantly simple presentation of the recipe process (there are several recipes given in the article). Now she has fif...

Everybody’s Reading! How Ebooks Have Affected Book Sales

The presumed conflict between print books and ebooks has been going on since ebooks first came out. First the deal was “ebooks will never catch on.” Riiight. We know how that one worked out. Then the argument evolved to “paper books are passé, and won’t exist in the future.” That remains to be seen, though I know some rabid readers who insist on holding a real, printed book in their hands. I (Anne here) recently ran across an article entitled “The Impact of Ebooks on Print Book Sales: Can...

Free Web Fic, With Pic!

Everyone comes up with their own mental picture of what characters in a book look like. For Pirate’s Honor, you don’t have to! Paizo Publishing has this great promotion for their Pathfinder Tales - free web fiction accompanied by portraits of the story’s characters. The web fic is a short story in four chapters, related to the newly released novel. Chapter one of Stargazer is now up, to be followed at one-week intervals by the subsequent chapters. The real treat? A portrait of Celeste, th...
